Polysun 6: With its new PV Rooftop Planner, the optimal
solar system is just a few clicks away
San Francisco, February 20 th , 2013 – Software provider Vela Solaris launched
version 6 of the simulation software Polysun. Not only did Polysun 6 get a
facelift; it comes with new features that ease the daily work of solar system
planners. The new PV Rooftop Planner, the insightful Simulation Analysis tool
and more user friendly innovations are included in Polysun 6.
PV rooftop planner including automatic or manual stringing
In addition to yield predictions and inverter setup, the new version of Polysun enables the
optimal PV module layout on the roof surface. Developed by Vela Solaris in close
cooperation with SolarGeo3D, this new feature allows the user to place PV modules both
automatically and manually. In a typical operation sequence, after the roof shape has been
determined, modules are placed in an optimal way to either cover the available roof
surface completely or with the given number of modules. For inverter setup, string
allocation is also calculated and displayed. Module placement and string allocation can be
easily edited manually at any time. As a result, you will get an optimized roof plan and
obtain accurate yield predictions generated by Polysun. Several roof surfaces with different
orientations can be combined easily on one system calculation.
geometry and inverter allocation.
Simulation analysis
A guaranteed “wow“ effect for experienced Polysun Designer users: Polysun 6 allows them
to carry out a graphically-aided simulation analysis, i.e. for each calculated time step, pipe
flow rates and temperatures as well as other interesting values are displayed on the design
area. When the simulation is completed, a slider control enables the user to analyse the
whole year.
Figure 2: Graphically-aided simulation analysis in the latest release of Polysun: temperatures and
flow rates are displayed for each calculated time step.
Programmable controllers
The new version 6 of Polysun includes important new features also in the field of solar
thermal energy. It is now possible for the user to employ programmable controllers,
enabling the definition of operating statuses according to controller inputs as well as to
describe controller output values for each operating status. The control logic is defined by
means of formulas that are comparable to the calculation formulas used in spreadsheets
such as Excel.
Rechargeable batteries for PV self-consumption optimization
With the goal of optimizing PV self-consumption Polysun is now equipped with a new
calculation model for rechargeable batteries: the battery is charged when the amount of
power produced exceeds that used. Therefore, if required, the solar energy produced on
your roof can be used at a later time.
