BUILDING EVACUATION TRAINING<br />

On Monday 30 th July there will be a series <strong>of</strong> building evacuations in accordance with<br />

<strong>University</strong> health and safety policy conducted by the <strong>University</strong> Fire Safety Officer and the<br />

Campus Manager. Academic staff are reminded <strong>of</strong> their responsibility to take leadership <strong>of</strong><br />

the class they are teaching at the time the alarm sounds and to move that class to the<br />

building emergency assembly point and await further instructions.<br />

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL STAFF AT THE IPSWICH <strong>CAMPUS</strong>:<br />

Withdrawal from service – CD Sonic Model AE-120P PC speakers<br />

CD Sonic Model AE-120P PC speakers have been in use on the campus since 1999; very<br />

recently a small transformer in one set <strong>of</strong> speakers failed and caught fire. Consequently<br />

advice has been received that these speakers must be withdrawn from use.<br />

If you have a set <strong>of</strong> CD Sonic Model AE-120P PC speakers you must advise Ms Shannan<br />

Bilicki, Campus Operations Officer, ipswichoperations@uq.ed.au and they will be collected.<br />

Some <strong>of</strong> these speakers may be in use in teaching facilities or for other specific purposes, the<br />

Campus Operations Officer must be notified in order to make arrangements for them to be<br />

replaced.<br />

WATER SAVING DEVICES – WATCH EVERY DROP!<br />

Water saving devices have been added to all taps across campus courtesy <strong>of</strong> Property and<br />

Facilities. If your area has missed receiving a water saving device then please contact Ms<br />

Shannan Bilicki, Campus Operations Officer at ipswichoperations@uq.ed.au . Look out<br />

for updated "Dripping Tap" signage to replace existing signs near sinks.<br />

NEW WHIPLASH RESEARCH CENTRE AT UQ IPSWICH<br />

This month the UQ Whiplash Research Unit opened a new research centre at the UQ Ipswich<br />

campus. The new centre is just one part <strong>of</strong> a growing number <strong>of</strong> health initiatives soon to be<br />

based on the campus, such as an audiology clinic and a physiotherapy and rehabilitation<br />

clinic. The Ipswich Whiplash research centre at Ipswich has launched a new study and is<br />

currently seeking volunteers who are aged 18 – 65 years and have neck pain resulting from a<br />

motor-vehicle accident that occurred within the past four weeks.<br />

TOASTMASTERS SPEECH CRAFT COURSE AT BOILERHOUSE<br />

A four week course promoting self-confidence in public speaking will be conducted on the<br />

Ipswich Campus by expert Toastmaster members from 5.30pm – 7.30pm on Wednesday 1 st ,<br />

8 th , 15 th , and 22 nd August, 2007. By application <strong>of</strong> practical skills, participants will have the<br />

knowledge that will enable them to deliver a presentation with conviction and flair at the last<br />

session.


Where: Community Room, Room 118, UQ Boilerhouse Community Engagement Centre,<br />

Building 22, UQ Ipswich Campus.<br />

Cost: $65 - includes workbook plus an additional two weeks <strong>of</strong> consultation (Wednesday 29 th<br />

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SHOWCASE<br />

The <strong>Queensland</strong> Government Department <strong>of</strong> Communities is hosting a “Community<br />

Engagement Showcase” on Friday the 20 th July to present community engagement projects<br />

from the public, private and tertiary sectors. The presentations will focus on examples <strong>of</strong> ‘best<br />

practice’. This is your opportunity to:<br />

• enhance your community engagement skills<br />

• develop strong partnerships<br />

• share best practice to achieve real outcomes for communities<br />

The UQ Boilerhouse is a sponsor <strong>of</strong> the event, which will be held at the Spring Hill Office<br />

Complex, Level 10, 477 Boundary Street, Spring Hill from 9.00 am – 4.30 pm. Register your<br />

CHALLENGE FOR CANCER CAMPAIGN – BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB<br />

As part <strong>of</strong> the Challenge for Cancer Campaign, Cancer Council <strong>Queensland</strong> (formally known<br />

as the <strong>Queensland</strong> Cancer Fund), will be holding an Auction for Cancer dinner on 23rd <strong>of</strong><br />

June at Brothers Leagues Club in Ipswich. Volunteer coordinator Ms Melissa Latter is seeking<br />

Artwork donations to Auction and asks UQ Ipswich Campus staff to donate artwork and make<br />

students aware <strong>of</strong> this opportunity to showcase their works, as well as to raise much needed<br />

TEDI and <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Queensland</strong> Secretaries' and Office AA Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals' Association<br />

(UQSOPA) have coordinated an Email and Letter Writing Etiquette course at the UQ Ipswich<br />

Campus (Seminar Room, Level 3 Building 8) on Tuesday, 10 th July at 10am. Would you like<br />

to:<br />

• polish up your writing?<br />

• be more confident <strong>of</strong> your writing skills to provide positive customer experiences?<br />

• be understood when conveying information?<br />

• present written work in an accurate, concise, clear and appropriate manner?<br />

SEMESTER 2: LEARNING MATERIALS SUBMISSION – DUE NOW<br />

TEDI wishes to remind all Ipswich course co-ordinators that requests for the production <strong>of</strong><br />

learning materials (both print and online) for semester 2, 2007 are due NOW.<br />

TEDI can also provide instructional design support as well as assistance with the production<br />

<strong>of</strong> learning materials whether they be print-based materials, CD ROMs or Blackboard sites. If<br />

you normally provide copies <strong>of</strong> readings for your students be aware that there are more<br />

stringent copyright restrictions for providing online acces via Coursebank than there are for<br />

providing a printed book <strong>of</strong> readings. Contact TEDI staff for further advice in this area.


Course co-ordinators, who are new to Ipswich, should note that the production <strong>of</strong> Ipswich<br />

course materials is funded centrally and will not be charged to your school or faculty.<br />

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – INSTRUCTOR REQUIRED AT BOILERHOUSE<br />

The UQ Boilerhouse is seeking an instructor for the 360º After School Care Program. This<br />

program is for school aged students in years 8-10 and runs from 3.30pm until 5.30pm during<br />

school terms. The instructor will be required to run the “Success Strategies for Young<br />

Women” course on one afternoon per week for Term 3 (23 rd July – 14 th Sept). For more<br />
