I. Preparing to Teach<br />

a. Goals<br />

i. K.RFS.2b-Demonstrate understanding <strong>of</strong> spoken words, syllables, and<br />

sounds. Count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words.<br />

b. Objectives<br />

i. To be able to place words with the same number <strong>of</strong> syllables into the<br />

correct category.<br />

c. Purpose<br />

i. To break words into syllables<br />

d. Materials<br />

i. Smart board<br />

e. Resources<br />

II. Instructional Procedures<br />

a. Focusing Activity<br />

i. Last time we worked on rhyming words.<br />

ii. Today we are going to work on breaking words into syllables.<br />

iii. Does anyone know what it means to break words up into syllables?<br />

b. Purpose<br />

i. To practice syllables with a smart board activity.<br />

c. Instructional Process<br />

i. Students gather on the carpet in front <strong>of</strong> the smart board.<br />

ii. Explain that there are three categories to place the pictures in. (1 syllable<br />

words, 2 syllable words, and 3 syllable words)

iii. Students take turns going to the smart board to move the pictures into the<br />

correct number <strong>of</strong> syllable category.<br />

d. Task/Guided Practice<br />

i. Students take turns going to the smart board to move the picture into the<br />

chart under the correct heading.<br />

a. Once the students have finished with the activity choose some other words had<br />

have the students count out the syllables in them.<br />
