Greetings Members & Friends,<br />
What a shock to hear <strong>of</strong> the tragic and unfortunate death <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Club</strong> Member Michael Rooke whilst racing at Round 2 <strong>of</strong> the<br />
State Championship meeting conducted by the <strong>Club</strong> at Mallala<br />
on 2/6/12.<br />
On behalf <strong>of</strong> all Members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Club</strong>, our condolences have<br />
been passed on to Michael’s family.<br />
Michael was a SCC member since 2006, and an active racer<br />
in his Improved Production class Honda Civic.<br />
We all know that whilst participation in many sports involves a<br />
degree <strong>of</strong> risk, there is much support to make such activity safe<br />
and enjoyable - but <strong>of</strong> course there is always the possibility <strong>of</strong><br />
accidents occurring.<br />
I’m sure that Michael will be remembered as a respected<br />
member, and a committed person, passionate about his sport.<br />
At the last Management Committee meeting, one <strong>of</strong> the topics<br />
discussed was how the <strong>Club</strong> could further support the role <strong>of</strong><br />
safety on the roads and in motor sport .<br />
We are in discussion with three Government agencies on the<br />
topic, and with CAMS, and a program <strong>of</strong> continuing relevant<br />
activity is intended.<br />
For example, one suggestion has been that we might check<br />
race-car trailers and tow or transport vehicles via a scrutineering<br />
process for safety and compliance when they are being used.<br />
This could be beneficial as a service to avert future issues.<br />
What about you nominating for the Management Committee!<br />
I can tell you that we are busy but still have some fun, and are<br />
continually seeking to ensure that the <strong>Club</strong> has a great future.<br />
Join us! As indicated before, nominations close on 30/6/12,<br />
with the AGM then in September.<br />
Twenty one new members approved last month, big entries<br />
continue at Collingrove and Mallala, plus the many <strong>Club</strong> activities<br />
are being well supported. Great!<br />

SEC’s Bits<br />
I have not contributed for a few months, but thought that I would<br />
say a few things prior to our AGM. I will be away in Europe<br />
when you read this. Amongst other things I will be visiting the<br />
Porsche and Mercedes Museums. I used to own a Classic<br />
Porsche and currently have a Smart car. This is The <strong>Sporting</strong><br />
<strong>Car</strong> <strong>Club</strong>. It is not a one-make car club. It is Inclusive. We all<br />
have various interests. We have two physical assets, the<br />
<strong>Club</strong>rooms at 51 King William Road, Unley and Collingrove<br />
Hillclimb. Both <strong>of</strong> these physical assets only work because <strong>of</strong><br />
our other asset – volunteers. You may read elsewhere <strong>of</strong> what<br />
is happening at Collingrove. I am happy to be a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Hillclimb Committee and participate as an <strong>of</strong>ficial in as many<br />
events as I can. I also Volunteer at Clipsal500 and Targa Classic<br />
Adelaide.<br />
I believe you get out <strong>of</strong> a club what you put in.<br />
There are vacancies on the Management Committee <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Club</strong> for people who have enthusiasm, expertise, but most <strong>of</strong><br />
all time commitment.<br />
We can also have Think Tanks, Focus Groups and Strategic<br />
Plans, but we need people to actually do things.<br />
