Upon the purchase of a motor vehicle in the Province of New Brunswick, the New<br />

Brunswick Government may refund the 8% provincial portion of the Harmonized<br />

Sales Tax (HST) or the 13% Provincial <strong>Vehicle</strong> Tax (PVT) on private sale<br />

transactions for persons with disabilities if:<br />

the motor vehicle is specially equipped with a device to enable a<br />

wheelchair or scooter to enter or leave the passenger vehicle (e.g.<br />

hydraulic lifts); or<br />

the motor vehicle is specially equipped with auxiliary driving controls that<br />

are used to facilitate the operation of the passenger vehicle (does not<br />

include spinner knobs); <strong>and</strong><br />

the motor vehicle is not operated by any person for the purpose of earning<br />

a profit for any person or as part of any undertaking carried on for gain;<br />

<strong>and</strong><br />

the claimant is not eligible for any other GST/HST credit or rebate related<br />

to this purchase.<br />

Along with the application the claimant must submit the following necessary<br />

supporting documents:<br />

a) copy of Bill of Sale <strong>and</strong>/or New Brunswick Tax Receipt;<br />

b) proof that the motor vehicle is specially equipped with a device to enable a<br />

wheelchair or scooter to enter or leave the passenger vehicle; or<br />

c) proof that the motor vehicle is fitted with auxiliary driving controls that are<br />

used to facilitate the operation of the passenger vehicle, truck, or van;<br />

d) a letter from a medical practitioner certifying that the person is disabled.<br />

Applications for refund of the 8% provincial portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax<br />

(HST) (form HST-R-02) or the 13% Provincial <strong>Vehicle</strong> Tax (PVT) (form PVT-R-<br />

01) can be obtained at any Service New Brunswick Centre or by contacting the<br />

Revenue & Taxation Division, Department of Finance at (800) 669-7070.<br />

Please note: Any inquiry related to all other types of Harmonized Sales<br />

Tax (HST) refunds must be made to the Canada Revenue Agency at<br />

(800) 959-5525.<br />

The <strong>Vehicle</strong> <strong>Retrofit</strong> Program will provide a maximum grant of 80% of the first<br />

$5,625 <strong>and</strong> 50% of next $7,000 to individuals, registered non-profit organizations,<br />

municipalities or private companies towards the cost of supporting <strong>and</strong>/or<br />

installing eligible accessibility features for a new or existing vehicle, renewable<br />

every 10 years. Organizations that provide transportation services for the<br />

disabled community will be eligible to renew their limit every five years.<br />

Some examples of retrofitting <strong>and</strong> accessibility features eligible for assistance<br />

under the program are:<br />

• wheelchair lifts <strong>and</strong> ramps<br />

• h<strong>and</strong> controls, steering devices <strong>and</strong> left-foot gas pedals<br />

• wheelchair restraint systems<br />

• special needs seating<br />

• roof, floor <strong>and</strong> door alterations (if part on an accessible retrofit)<br />

• scooter lifts<br />

Consideration may be given to other features not listed above.<br />

Specially Equipped Motor <strong>Vehicle</strong>s<br />

You can claim a specially-equipped motor vehicle rebate if you paid GST/HST on<br />

the purchase of a qualifying motor vehicle, or you paid GST/HST on a<br />

modification service performed on your motor vehicle. To apply for the rebate,<br />

complete Form GST518, GST/HST Specially Equipped Motor <strong>Vehicle</strong> Rebate<br />

Application.<br />

The Adaptive Driving Service enables persons with disabilities to have safe <strong>and</strong><br />

accessible transportation in their community. Services are directed towards<br />

individuals who, as passengers or drivers, may benefit from specially adapted<br />

vehicles <strong>and</strong>/or driver training.<br />

The Adaptive Driving Service is not covered by Medicare. The fee is $150.00 to<br />

the client.<br />

How to be referred<br />

Document required for driver assessment:<br />

Physician referral (can be initiated by the therapist or client but a physician<br />

is required to sign a referral).<br />

Documents requested for driver assessment (as appropriate) may include<br />

summaries of relevant:<br />

occupational therapy findings<br />

physiotherapy findings<br />

psychology reports<br />

speech language pathology reports<br />

PROGRAMS<br />

Most manufacturers offer special rebate<br />

programs to assist in defraying the costs<br />

of adapting a vehicle for a person (driver<br />

<strong>and</strong>/or passenger) with disabilities.<br />

The following are a few examples of<br />

manufacturers <strong>and</strong> the programs they<br />

offer, but it is not a complete list.<br />

Chrysler Canada’s AotoAbility Program can help you do the things you love to do<br />

in life <strong>and</strong> we’ll help you hit the road in the style that suits you best. Our goal is<br />

to assist in lessening the financial burden of the coast associated with modifying<br />

your vehicle.<br />

The AutoAbility program is designed to help physically challenged consumers,<br />

<strong>and</strong> business or charitable organizations that provide transportation to physically<br />

challenged individuals with permanent disabilities enter, exit <strong>and</strong>/or operate a<br />

new vehicle.<br />

When you purchase or lease a new 2012, 2013 or 2014 Chrysler, Jeep ® , Dodge,<br />

Ram or FIAT vehicle from a participating dealership or FIAT studio, Chrysler<br />

Canada will give you a cash reimbursement up to $750 for the purchase of<br />

adaptive driving or passenger equipment installed that is sold at retail*. Leased<br />

vehicles must be leased for a minimum of 12 months to be eligible.<br />

Once you’ve selected a Chrysler, Jeep ® , Dodge Ram or FIAT vehicle that fits<br />

your transportation needs, discuss with the dealer if the equipment can be factory<br />

installed or contact a reputable <strong>and</strong> qualified adaptive equipment installer to<br />

ensure that it can be adapted to meet your needs. For a complete list of eligible<br />

adaptive equipment currently available, please contact the AutoAbility toll-free<br />

assistance line at (800) 265-6908.<br />

* Please consult a dealership or call the AutoAbility Program Headquarters for<br />

details on eligible vehicles, eligible equipment, eligibility requirements <strong>and</strong><br />

program expiration dates.<br />

Conversions to Chrysler, Jeep ® , Dodge, Ram or FIAT vehicles qualify for a<br />

maximum reimbursement of $750. These reimbursements will not be reduced or<br />

affected by any additional outside funding. In order to obtain an AutoAbility<br />

reimbursement, you must have a qualifying Medical Doctor’s letter or prescription<br />

form <strong>and</strong> the AutoAbility Physician’s Form (obtained from dealership). The<br />

AutoAbility Physician’s form provides the physician’s recommendation for the<br />

installation of adaptive equipment due to medical/physical condition. In the event<br />

the owner of the vehicle is supplying the main form of vehicle transportation<br />

please have the physician note the relevance <strong>and</strong> relationship between the<br />

individuals.<br />

Consult your dealer for complete eligibility requirements <strong>and</strong> a copy of the<br />

AutoAbility Physician’s form.<br />

The Chrysler AutoAbility program reimbursement may be combined with other<br />

eligible national <strong>and</strong> regional incentives available at the time fo your vehicle<br />

Ford Canada<br />

The Ford <strong>Mobility</strong> Motoring Program offers financial assistance of up to $1,200<br />

for the installation of adaptive equipment, <strong>and</strong> up to $200 on alerting devices for<br />

hearing impairments, lumbar seats <strong>and</strong> running boards on new Ford Motor<br />

Company vehicle purchases or leases.<br />

General Motors Canada Ltd.<br />

Obtain an evaluation<br />

First find a driver assessment facility <strong>and</strong> arrange for a complete evaluation. Your<br />

assessment professional will be able to make suggestions about your driving <strong>and</strong><br />

any adaptive equipment you need. You should also speak to your provincial<br />

Ministry of Transportation about any changes in your medical status.<br />

Eligible equipment<br />

To be eligible for a GM reimbursement of up to $1,000, your adaptive equipment<br />

must be permanently installed in a vehicle, installed for a driver or passenger<br />

with a permanent disability <strong>and</strong> purchased from <strong>and</strong> installed by a licensed<br />

equipment installer. Equipment available from General Motors (i.e., regular<br />

production options <strong>and</strong> GM <strong>Access</strong>ories) is not eligible for reimbursement. Speak<br />

to a GM <strong>Mobility</strong> Program representative to find out more.<br />

Choose a vehicle<br />

Together your GM Canada dealer, an adaptive equipment installer <strong>and</strong> an<br />

assessment professional can help you choose the right vehicle for your needs.<br />

Find a qualified equipment installer<br />

If you’re not sure where to find qualified installers in your area, the National<br />

<strong>Mobility</strong> Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA), your provincial rehabilitation<br />

services agency <strong>and</strong> the Ministry of Transportation are good sources of<br />

information.<br />

GM Canada has a number of financing options available including Leasing,<br />

Hyundai Canada<br />

The Hyundai <strong>Mobility</strong> Program assists disabled individuals in outfitting their new<br />

Hyundai vehicle with the necessary equipment required to drive. The assistance<br />

is in the form of a monetary rebate of up to $500.<br />

Individuals with a permanent disability who purchase a new Hyundai vehicle <strong>and</strong><br />

that require an adaptive aid to drive a vehicle. In order to qualify, the person must<br />

be able to produce a doctor’s or Government Certificate detailing his or her<br />

qualifying disability.<br />

Qualified customers will receive a Hyundai <strong>Mobility</strong> Program Claim Form from the<br />

Sales Person at the time of delivery of their new Hyundai vehicle. The customer<br />

then has up to 4 months to mail the following information to Hyundai Auto<br />

Canada:<br />

1. A copy of the Hyundai New <strong>Vehicle</strong> Sales Contract.<br />

2. A doctor’s or Government Certificate detailing the customer’s disability.<br />

Proof of vehicle modifications in the form of a payment receipt or work<br />

order from the installer clearly stating the Hyundai vehicle’s V.I.N.#, Year,<br />

3. Make, <strong>and</strong> Model <strong>and</strong> that the modifications were completed within 4<br />

months of delivery.<br />

4. The completed Hyundai <strong>Mobility</strong> Program Claim Form.<br />

Once approved, Hyundai Auto Canada will mail a cheque for the cost of the<br />

modifications up to a maximum allowance of $500 directly to the customer at the<br />

address stated on the <strong>Mobility</strong> Program Claim Form.<br />

KIA Motors<br />

Kia Canada welcomes the opportunity to assist individuals with disabilities or<br />

special needs by providing up to $750 towards the purchase <strong>and</strong> installation of<br />

specialty equipment on your Kia vehicle.<br />

See your Kia dealer for full details.<br />

Mazda Canada Inc.<br />

Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) will provide up to $750.00 (includes GST) towards the<br />

purchase <strong>and</strong> installation of adaptive driving aids or mobility assistance<br />

equipment on all eligible Mazda vehicles.<br />

Adaptive driving or passenger equipment includes wheelchair or other lift<br />

equipment, h<strong>and</strong> or other driving controls.<br />

Purchase <strong>and</strong> installation of equipment that costs less than the maximum<br />

$750.00 will be paid at the actual costs. Purchase <strong>and</strong> installation of equipment<br />

exceeding $750.00 will be paid a maximum of $750.00.<br />

To qualify for payment, the purchaser/lessee must complete the <strong>Mobility</strong><br />

Assistance Claim Form <strong>and</strong> forward it, along with required documentation, to:<br />

All payments will be made directly to the retail purchaser or lessee. To be eligible<br />

for payment, the "<strong>Mobility</strong> Assistance Claim Form" must be received within three<br />

(3) months from date of purchase.<br />

Important Information:<br />

The customer is solely responsible for the selection of both the mobility<br />

equipment manufacturer <strong>and</strong> installer.<br />

Mazda Canada Inc. or its Dealers bears no responsibility for the warranty of the<br />

mobility equipment <strong>and</strong> installation.<br />

Toyota Canada<br />

As part of the Toyota <strong>Mobility</strong> Program, <strong>and</strong> in keeping with its "make things<br />

better" philosophy, Toyota Canada offers mobility conversions for the 2013<br />

Sienna Minivan. Both the Bruno Lift-Up Power <strong>Mobility</strong> Seat <strong>and</strong> the Sienna<br />

Rampvan by BraunAbility are currently available for easy <strong>and</strong> secure installation<br />

<strong>and</strong>/or conversion.<br />

In addition to providing products like the Sienna Rampvan to assist the mobility of<br />

Canadians, Toyota Canada Inc. offers up to $1,000 in funding to qualified<br />

applicants through the Toyota <strong>Mobility</strong> Assistance Program. The funding is<br />

designed to assist customers who must modify their vehicle with mobility-specific<br />

aftermarket parts or driving aids, so that they may enjoy the Toyota vehicle of<br />

their choice.<br />

Visit your family doctor for referral to a registered physical therapist. The physical<br />

therapist will perform an assessment to determine your suitability to drive <strong>and</strong><br />

what driving aids are necessary to assist you. Please then consult your nearest<br />

Toyota dealership for assistance in placing your order <strong>and</strong> locating a<br />

BraunAbility-approved dealership from which to take delivery of your new vehicle.<br />

The BraunAbility dealership will source your new Sienna Rampvan either from<br />

existing inventory, or place the order with Toyota for delivery at a future date.<br />

Volkswagen Canada<br />

Great News! Volkswagen Canada is pleased to offer a cash credit towards the<br />

conversion of vehicles for physically h<strong>and</strong>icapped drivers. This program will<br />

assist the disabled with their conversion of our vehicles.<br />

Volkswagen will provide up to $1,000 towards the purchase <strong>and</strong> installation of lift<br />

equipment, carriers, h<strong>and</strong> controls, pedal extensions or other assistance<br />

equipment on any eligible model.<br />

Eligible vehicles are new <strong>and</strong> unused Canadian Volkswagen models.<br />

To qualify for payment, buyer or lessee must complete the <strong>Mobility</strong> <strong>Access</strong> Claim<br />

<strong>Mobility</strong> by Volvo is a logical extension of the Volvo philosophy that travels from<br />

the retailer to your driveway. The goal is to assist persons who are mobility<br />

challenged or hearing impaired so their transportation needs can be met within<br />

the extraordinary comfort <strong>and</strong> safety of a specially adapted Volvo.<br />

<strong>Mobility</strong> by Volvo provides:<br />

Up to $1,000 in financial assistance toward the cost of adding adaptive<br />

equipment to an eligible new Volvo<br />

Up to $200 on alert hearing devices<br />

Maximum reimbursement is $1,000.*<br />

Adaptive Equipment<br />

The term "adaptive equipment" describes devices that make it easier for people<br />

with physical disabilities or impairments to drive or be transported in a vehicle.<br />

However, options available for factory or retailer installation, such as running<br />

boards <strong>and</strong> power-assisted seats, are not considered eligible for reimbursement.<br />

Although an adaptive equipment assessment center is probably your best<br />

authority on what's right for you or a family member, here are the kinds of<br />

adaptive equipment available for Volvo vehicles:<br />

• Offer is limited to $1,000 toward the cost of adding adaptive equipment, <strong>and</strong><br />

$200 on an alert hearing device, per vehicle. Maximum reimbursement is $1,000.<br />

Offer open only to legal Canadian residents. Offer is not transferable.<br />

• Offer only available for purchases of 2012 or 2013 model year new vehicles,<br />

properly retired courtesy cars, <strong>and</strong> retired demonstrators. Offer cannot be applied<br />

to the purchase of any other model year Volvo, any other model year courtesy<br />

car, models sold directly or indirectly outside of the Canada, <strong>and</strong>/or VCIC<br />

(overseas delivery) program sales. <strong>Vehicle</strong>s purchased as used are not eligible.<br />

• Claims must be submitted within 180 days of vehicle purchases.<br />

• Factory installed or retailer installation options, such as running boards <strong>and</strong><br />

power assisted seats, are not considered eligible for reimbursement.<br />

• Offer cannot be used toward the cost of the purchase or installation of Volvo<br />

options or accessories, <strong>and</strong> the payment of sales tax. This offer is subject to<br />

federal, provincial <strong>and</strong> local taxes.<br />

• Consumers should verify modification information <strong>and</strong> obtain complete modifier<br />

references before having the vehicle modification completed.<br />
