Alexei Filitov is a graduate of Moscow University (1960) and Chief Research Associate,<br />
Institute of World History, Russian Academy of Sciences, and a lecturer in C<strong>on</strong>temporary<br />
German History, Russian University for Humanities, Moscow. He has published<br />
m<strong>on</strong>ographs in Russian <strong>on</strong> The Cold War: Debate in Western Historiography (1991); German<br />
Questi<strong>on</strong>: From Divisi<strong>on</strong> to Unificati<strong>on</strong> (1993); Germany in Soviet Foreign Policy Planning,<br />
1941- 1990 (2009) and various articles <strong>on</strong> the diplomatic history of the World War Two<br />
and of the Cold War. His current projects include editorial work <strong>on</strong> Volume Four of The<br />
USSR and the German Questi<strong>on</strong>, 1948-49, and a textbook <strong>on</strong> German History since 1900.<br />
J<strong>on</strong>athan Haslam is Professor of the History of Internati<strong>on</strong>al Relati<strong>on</strong>s at Cambridge<br />
University and a Fellow of the British Academy. His latest work is Russia's Cold War: From<br />
the October Revoluti<strong>on</strong> to the Fall of the Wall (Yale 2011), shortly to appear under paper<br />
cover. Current research is expected to lead to a history of Soviet secret intelligence, both<br />
civilian and military, from 1917 to 1989. China, culture and history, isi ncreasingly a new<br />
focus of l<strong>on</strong>g term interest.<br />
Jochen Paul Laufer graduated at Berlin Humboldt-University in 1986 as Dr. Phil. with a<br />
dissertati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> German Policy towards South Afrika 1890–1898 and the Anglo-German<br />
Rivalry. Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR; since 1992<br />
at the Potsdamer Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung. Published a 3 volume document<br />
editi<strong>on</strong> “Die UdSSR und die deutsche Frage” (with Georgij Pavlovich Kynin): in Russian<br />
(“SSSR i germansky vopros 1941–1948, Moscow 1996, 2000, 2003) and in German<br />
(Duncker&Humblot, 2004). A fourth volume <strong>on</strong> the Berlin crisis and foundati<strong>on</strong> of the two<br />
German states will be published this summer. Together with Rainer Karlsch “Die UdSSR<br />
und die Dem<strong>on</strong>tagen in Deutschland” (Duncker&Humblot, 2003). Böhlau published 2009<br />
his main research: Pax Sovietica. Stalin und die deutsche Frage 1941–1945. Current<br />
research projects include Soviet ec<strong>on</strong>omic policy and German/Soviet interacti<strong>on</strong> in light of<br />
the Cold War.<br />
Wilfried Loth is Professor and Chair of Modern and C<strong>on</strong>temporary History at the<br />
University of Duisburg-Essen / Germany. His major publicati<strong>on</strong>s include: The Divisi<strong>on</strong> of the<br />
World, 1951-1955 (L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong>/New York: Routledge 1987); Stalin’s Unwanted Child. The Soviet<br />
Uni<strong>on</strong>, the German Questi<strong>on</strong>, and the Foundati<strong>on</strong> of the GDR (L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong>/New York: MacMillan<br />
1998); and Overcoming the Cold War. A History of Détente, 1950-1991 (Houndsmills/New<br />
York: Palgrave 2002). His current research interests are “History of European Integrati<strong>on</strong>”<br />
and “Theory of Internati<strong>on</strong>al Relati<strong>on</strong>s.”<br />
