form alliances with the current
NGO‟s working in less privileged
areas where the companies feel that
their medicines are needed
frequently.
This strategic alliance on behalf of
the pharmaceuticals and the NGO‟s
would result in pharmaceuticals
selling their medicines on a price
lower than the market price thus
making it within the affordability
range of the underprivileged masses
of the society.
This may slightly lower the
profitability margins of the
pharmaceuticals but in the long run
it would yield paramount benefits
conducive to both the entire
pharmaceutical industry and the
society. These significant benefits
would include:

HYDEL ENERGY: The difference
between run-of-river and traditional
hydro power generation is that a runof-river
project does not require a
large reservoir and the projects tend
to be on a smaller scale. Run-of-river
projects also need to be built on a
river with a consistent and steady
flow (mostly natural). The Indus
River System alone has a hydel
power potential of 35,000 MWs.
Water flowing from Tarbela Dam can
be easily stored by building a dam at
Kalabagh.
WIND POWER: The “wind corridor”
in the coastal area of Sindh has the
capacity to generate 50,000 MW.
This is proved to be true by the wind
energy map for Pakistan provided by
the United States which confirms a
strong wind corridor in Sindh coastal
area. It would be beneficial for the
government to encourage and
facilitate the local manufacturing of
wind turbine technology.
POWER GENERATION FROM COAL:
Pakistan has the 7th largest coal
reserve in the world and yet Pakistan
only produces 0.2% of its electricity
from coal. Pakistan could generate
10,000 MW from coal alone. Pakistan
must acquire the technology and
manufacturing facilities which can
burn low quality coal that is available
in the Sindh province.

Reforming street children through
social endeavors

The most common everyday
occurrence witnessed by all of us, is
the sudden stream of street kids on
the busy thoroughfares of the city of
lights. With a determination to make
it through one more day, these kids
cajole us to buy their meager wares
and beg us for alms.
These children, robbed of their
childhood, often fall prey to the evils
of the society. Most of them are
victims of child and drug abuse.
In order to help bring a change in
their lives and to make them
responsible individuals of the
society, I would like to propose that
students of various institutions
should come forward, do fund
raising and work with prominent
NGO‟s in setting up training centers
where these children can acquire
some skills conducive to earning a
respectable livelihood.
There is a team by the name of SOCH
formed by the students of Textile
Institute of Pakistan, which started
teaching the children of the
watchman and the peons of the
institute and then later it turned into
an NGO contributing to the welfare
of the society.
How religious schools can
impart career skills

In Pakistan, many less privileged
people are more inclined towards
their children acquiring religious
education by getting them
admissions into madarassas.
In order to educate and make the
nation skilled, we have to
concentrate on making these
children become resourceful for the
country by providing them with
certain skills and education in its
literal meaning.
Most of these madarassas are
owned privately and each religious
sect has its own fully functioning
madarassa in almost every nook and
corner of the country.
The government needs to encourage
these institutions to hire teachers
who can train the students not only
in religious and moral injunctions but
also provide them necessary skills
ranging from handicrafts, pottery,
weaving, carpentry, mechanics,
electricians, farming , computers
etc.
Religious education and vocational
training should be imparted along
with the basic education of Maths
and English.

Utilizing water for curbing
energy crisis

Power shortage is damaging the
country‟s economy and it is pulling
downhill Pakistan‟s GDP growth.
Recently a news channel reported
about a villager developing a small
machine that he used to generate
electricity from the running water of
a tube well. That small machine was
able to generate enough electricity
to run an energy saver bulb.
If this machine is commercialized and
for every one working tube well one
prototype of this machine is made
available, it would be able to generate
enough electricity to meet the
electricity needs of that village only.
This model can be tried in any village
at first to see the feasibility in terms of
operation and generation of electricity
and costs incurred during the whole
process and then based on results,
further action should be taken.
Similarly in villages where the water
goes through the canal system to the
agricultural land and where there are
fewer tube wells available,
“barrages” can be utilized for
generating electricity based on the
same principles as that of tube wells.
With the villages out of the power
crisis equation, the government can
then focus on curbing this problem in
the cities.
Laundry service at your
doorstep!

Laundry services are very popular
now days, because people are very
busy and have no time for it. This is a
business that can easily be started
from the comfort of one‟s own home;
all that is required is good laundry
supplies and investment in a
motorbike for delivery purposes.
The objective would be “To provide a
convenient, low cost and high quality
laundry facility which will deliver value
by helping the customers save time and
money.” The key to success would be
that this would be a door to door
business unlike other laundry services.
We will primarily market our services
to those busy individuals who are
willing to appreciate this kind of
service and want to spend their time
in other recreational activities.

professionals, and have more
income to spend)
The competition is not very fierce
because most of the laundry
services available do not provide
home delivery and pick up, they are
either very expensive located at
posh localities or people in Pakistan
usually have a permanent employee
for this purpose.

The idea is to fuse traditional and
modern art.“Be Funky” is a shoe store
dedicated to realizing this vision for
those who share a passion for art,
fashion, and life. The original concept
and designs provide customers the
unique experience of wearing
provocative and inspiring artwork.
“Be funky” shoes are committed to
providing the highest quality artwork
through innovative designs. Each
pair of shoes is hand painted and
designed by 5 artists and creative
designers hired by the owner.
The artists and creative designers
start work in the workshop. They will
design and paint. After the artwork is
complete, customers will come and
choose one of the funky printed shoe
boxes and pick their shoes. Shoe
Options comprise Flats, Sneakers,
Vans, Pumps, Heels, Joggers, Boots
This venture does not require very
high technology utilization as it is more
of a labor intensive venture rather than
capital intensive. This means it
performs with the minimum level of
machinery to make shoes and buffer
machines for polish and other basic
machinery to produce shoes. This will
also seek to provide employment to the
artisans skilled in hand painting.
Carpooling towards better
convenience, economy
and environment

The cost of commute has increased
drastically over the years. Those who
could once afford the bus fare now
travel only because of sheer necessity.
To add insult to injury the ongoing
political instability, the increased
frequency of strikes and "paya jam”
have contributed to the sufferings of
the working class and the laborers
as they lose out their daily wage by
not reaching their workplace.
My idea will not only create
convenience in the lives of people
but also create job opportunities for
many others. The idea is to form a
group of taxi drivers, a separate one
for different routes and take people to
areas of their respective work place.
Example : This service will help a
group of house maids who work in
close proximity from each other to
car pool together, or a group of men
working in the same factory who live
close by to car pool and come
together to their respective work
place. There could be no better
contribution than to prioritize
commuting for the common man.

Stitching workshop.

WORKSHOP:
Any house of 120 yards would be
rented in either Korangi or
Nazimabad or any suitable location
where the workshop will be set up.
DETAILS:
I would like to set up a garment
stitching workshop for both men and
women in either Nazimabad or
Korangi. There they will be taught to
stitch first and then complete the
garment orders that I will take up.
This way not only will I be able to
make money but will also be able to
pay them salaries on a monthly basis.
Turning trash into treasure

My business idea is more like
establishing an NGO; we will have
students as volunteers who will be
dedicated and passionate for doing
this noble charity work.
Each student will spread word in
his/her social circle, family and in
his/her university about the project.
People will give them their discarded
stuff. Volunteers will collect them
and bring them to our ware house,
where other volunteers will repair
the unused stuff and after repairing
we shall sell the products in different
small areas on a very economical
price, and with the profit that we will
earn, we will arrange for different
kinds of businesses to help the poor
jobless people.
I firmly believe it is better to teach
someone how to catch fish rather
than giving them fish.
I would like to give a small example
here, we are 57 students in our Public
Relations class, if each student gives 2
discarded clothes, it would be enough
to fulfill the needs of 114 people,
approximately 7 to 8 families.
Through this venture I am sure I will be
able to help my country in eliminating
the vicious cycle of poverty.

Neighborhood Gardens

Community gardens are gathering
places that strengthen networks
through cooperative ventures; a
source of pride among residents; a
visible product of land stewardship
and a healthier urban environment.
Hence for this purpose empty
patches will be identified by the local
government throughout which can
be converted into small gardens.
Volunteers can be retired people or
young kids who can spare time for
gardening after school, housewives
who wish to socialize and do
gardening at the same time.
Community Gardens will operate as
an incorporated body on a not-forprofit
basis. Any income generated
from Community Garden activities
will be reinvested in improvements
or programs in line with its goals and
objectives.
The membership fee of Community
Garden will be Rs. 1000/- per year for a
family of 8. All activities carried out on
the Community Gardens are to be seen
as tools to achieve:
‣ Better family health through
workout and exercise
‣ Productive community
involvement by environmental
service
‣ Awareness through religious
programs and workshops
‣ Recreation and entertainment
through sports, theaters,
carnivals etc.
The Shoe-makers

The Shoe Makers will provide women
with an option of buying made-toorder
shoes. In our store, we will
have several pairs of shoes shelved,
not for sale but for people to choose
from so that they can place orders
accordingly. The exact
measurements of every purchaser‟s
feet will be taken to give them a
perfect fit. Also, those who are
interested can mix and match
different shoe designs to have their
own personalized shoes which no
one else would be able to copy. They
can buy simpler versions or more
dressy shoes depending on their
preference. Plus we will have a
colour card for our customers from
where they can choose whatever
colour they would prefer to wear.
There will be different types of heels
available and there will also be
different types of shoe soles available
which women can choose from
according to their comfort. Women will
also have the option of buying shoes
that are less expensive by going for
lower priced soles or by cutting down
on the design of shoes and buying
simpler yet stylish versions of our
premium shoes. Although, our shoes
will be made of good material which
will last for years and make our shoes
look brand new each time they are
worn, the best part about purchasing
from our store would be a guarantee
slip that will be given for a year.

Conquering illiteracy through
the youth brigade

The common man of Pakistan is
suffering from many problems.
Illiteracy is a root cause of many
problems, for example the common
man is not aware of his/her rights,
responsibilities or duties.
Considering the ground realities, my
solution to the above mentioned
problem is that the efforts should be
made by students i.e. the youth.
The action plan includes the role of
the universities and their policies. It
should be mandatory for the
completion of a degree for every
student to teach for at least 6 months
in a government school. This will
also help in raising the standard of
government schools indirectly and in
the other way round; we will be able
to serve the common man.
Improvement can be effectively
measured by the university in which
the student is enrolled. It can be
done either by performance
evaluation of a student or by simply
taking assessment exam of the
students to whom the education is
being imparted. This step will
definitely contribute in reducing
illiteracy which will ultimately help
the common man in overcoming
many problems.
Mobile phones: new source of
necessary information

There are around 80 million mobile
phone users in Pakistan. In addition
to this there are around 30 million
internet users all over the Pakistan.
Digital abuse, infringement of
women‟s rights along with children
rights and human rights, text abuse,
harassment, emergency information
and other queries are generated on
a daily basis. I propose a solution
that we can provide assistance and
support to such users who have no
idea about how to get consultation
when they have problems.
A web based discussion platform,
social media campaigns and SMS
based support can be provided to such
people. To cater to this issue we need
to have a strong integrated media
campaign where all TV channels and
print media organizations will be
requested to initiate the public service
messages. In emergency situations,
experts will be hired or offer their
services voluntarily by providing
support to the people. It may include
any legal advice or it can also include
any other kind of support like human
rights, and other queries etc. In police
cases or in any accidental cases, when
there is nobody who could help the
suffering person, this platform can
work as a friend in need.

maintaining a home. We offer a
cyclic maintenance related to
plumbing, electric work, painting,
gardening, repairing etc. When
someone faces a problem in any of
these fields, the NGO‟s will gladly
serve them.
NGO‟s can help in providing House-
In services. House-In is one end for
the multifarious maintenance
services, which fulfills the desired
needs of the common men when it
comes to maintaining their houses,
which include the comprehensive
tune-up handyman services through
the availability of electricians,
carpenters, gardeners, plumbers,
masons and painters.
The initial investment required for
starting up this business would
amount to 1 million rupees. Funding
would be required for buying initial
equipments, tools, machines and
stationary.
House-In will be focusing on one
market segment, the household
segment (which would include
builders, residential colonies and
apartments).
Shoe Shine Service: “At the Cost
of Hundred and Fifteen Rupees”

Pakistan is one of the most populated
countries of the world with 180 million
inhabitants, of which 24% are living below
the poverty line. The prices may have
soared up, the leather shoe industry may
have declined to 60%, but other than that,
there have not been too many changes in
the shoe-shining business since then.
Large groups of office goers still stop by the
stand regularly. The “Shoe Shine Service”
could be, as low as a hundred and fifteen
rupee start up cost and 87% profitable
business, for any ordinary man to become a
bread earner to a family of 6 persons in
Pakistan. To cater to shoe shine service, one
may need a high traffic spot whereby
several regular office goers are available at
any point of time 6 days a week. Haroon
Road or I.I Chundrigarh Road in Karachi,
has hundreds of office premises.
Each building in the metro locality has, a
minimum of 100 employees working which
would secure fluid revenue inflow. One can
expand the variety of supplies required for a
fine shoe shine service, say for example a
complete professional shoe shining kit,
including wax, brushes, daubers, leather
protector, shining cloths, applicator brushes
and a shoe horn.
The shoe shine business plan has been
devised for a common man to become the
bread earner for his family in Pakistan.

Empowering rural women with dignity

Located hardly 25 kilometers away
from the hustle and bustle of Karachi,
residents of Goth Noor Muhammad are
so poor that they collect, besides other
items, rotten fruits and vegetables
from the garbage for subsistence. The
women in that area are bubbling with
knitting, sewing, and embroidery skills.
But they do not know where and how
to market their products. Moreover,
technology in textile is an alien
concept to them. It‟s a pity to see such
talent go to waste. I propose the idea
of providing necessary resources to
these women in order to produce more
creative products. Shell Tameer is
eager to begin a movement to aid them
and in collaboration with them I would
like to take the following measures.
‣ The use and handling of
various textile machines
could be taught to them.
‣ Market, brand and sell their
products; and in return, these
women will get a fair share in our
profits. Their products would
earn recognition and fame.
‣ Provide exposure of field work.
Visit to various exhibitions to
boost their confidence.
‣ The facility of child care centre
would be provided to working
mothers where they could
leave their children under the
supervision of hired maids.
The Counselors

To cater to the needs of the teenagers in
terms of counseling, a career and
personal counseling service needs to be
established with the name of “THE
COUNSELORS”. We aim to become the
first choice of parents and teenagers
when it comes to career and personal
counseling. The main purpose of the
company would be to guide teenagers
regarding what careers are available to
them when they are studying in school. It
will first understand the areas of interest
of the children along with their family
background; after that few tests will be
taken to analyze their IQ and personality.
Counselors from various fields will be
invited for interactive sessions.
Counseling sessions will be conducted
separately for parents as well. Counseling
will be done on individual basis. This
whole idea will not only be business
oriented but it will also fulfill the social
responsibility. Various schools will be
targeted where presentations will be
given to create awareness about career
counseling. Then interactive sessions will be
done in schools and in our training center.
Our target segment would comprise
school/college going teenagers and
children between the ages of 10 and 18.
A 1000 sq yard plot is required to build a
two floor purpose based building.
Teenagers would be provided with reading
stuff about their areas of interests along
with Cds. They will be taken for a small visit
to factories, banks, hospitals, media
houses. Fees would be charged from the
children on a monthly basis for a whole
quarter. Initially presentations given to
schools will be free then nominal fees
would be charged to schools on yearly
basis to avail the counseling services.

Spreading joy in the
lives of special children

We can invite special children to our
institute and make the day
memorable for them by organizing
fun filled activities like games,
cartoons or movies on projector,
different competition, painting, lemon
spoon race, singing competition, etc.
We are already pursuing this activity
on the occasion of Jashn-e-Baharaan
every year or so.
Activities will be followed by lunch.
We can have “give aways” for the
children as well because these
children would be our special
guests!
This event will help us to highlight
the name of our institute. We can
invite TV channels, more over we
can invite celebrities like Abrar-Ul-
Haq, Shahzad Roy etc as guests,
who already are working as
philanthropists for children and
many others as well. We can send
invitations to Darulsukun and other
similar kind of institutes which look
after special children.
Through this event we will be able to
educate others about the plight of
these children, remove the stigma‟s
associated with special children and
above all make these children feel
accepted, loved and happy.
Improving quality of life
through health awareness

Health care sector is not developed and
monitored. Recently more than 50
patients died in different areas of
Lahore for using the adulterated drugs.
People are afraid of using medicines
because they are not sure whether the
medicine is contaminated or not.
Awareness is another factor which is
highly ignored. People are not
conscious about diseases and their
impact on health. People living in rural
areas suffer the most. Hygiene and
sanitation need to be highlighted for a
better life style. The lack of basic health
knowledge is increasing the death rate
among children. Mortality rate is
increasing with time which needs to be
controlled. Lack of vaccination is one of
the major causes of high mortality rate.
Polluted water has endangered our
lives. There are so many diseases which
are caused by drinking dirty water, such
as, cholera, dysentery and hepatitis etc.
Dengue virus and malaria are the
diseases which are caused by the
stagnant water. Malnutrition in Pakistan
is usually associated with poverty and
the main causative factors include low
consumption of food and having foods
which have low nutritional value.
The common man should be guided with
necessary health care knowledge to
lead a better life, be provided with clean
drinking water. The education system
should be revised to a more modern
approach through which poverty can be
eliminated and there should be a strong
check and balance of adulterated
medicines to reduce life threats.

Centers of IT education

There is a need for establishing IT centers
for the common man. These centers may
be initially launched in and around in
impoverished areas of Karachi. The
project will be run on the basis of “Each
one should teach one”. It may offer the
following short courses in the initial phase:
Visual Basic + SQL Server (Database), 3-D
Graphics, CCNA (Networking), Microsoft
Office, Applications Software (IT Office), E-
Commerce, Auto Cad.
The institute is for community service and
few computer graduates having command
in these courses will run this institute in the
initial phase. Later on the students will take
charge of it. The main motive behind this is
to educate the young ones, who don‟t have
or can‟t afford education. These courses
will give them an opportunity to get good
technical jobs or they can start their own
freelance projects. Each one should teach
one means that once someone has availed
of these courses, he/she will join this
venture and will educate others. In this way
a chain of learning will start.
The college will run its classes in the
evening. Each student will first be given
basic computing education and then
they will be taught a combination of
courses. The institute will charge
minimum fee from students and
deserving students will be provided the
desired education free of cost. The
college is designed to provide high
quality education services to the IT
industry. An optimum ration of one PC to
one student has been devised. The
college will have two classrooms cum
computer labs equipped with twentytwo
computers linked through a
network, one media projector in each
lab and proper air conditioning facilities.
Women entrepreneurial
incubation center

According to surveys in Pakistan,
majority of the well educated women
with education up to graduation level
do not contribute to the economy of
our country. Our goal is to use these
entrepreneurial minds to contribute
to the national income. And provide
them a platform, where they can
excel and display their abilities and
can feel ease in sharing their ideas.
This plan will serve as a platform for
the women who want to excel in their
daily lives, but due to cultural or due
to family constraints cannot join any
organization permanently or step out
of their houses to work.
We will start it with a social media site
so that women can approach us
easily and will then excel in e-
business and e-consultancy. We will
also invite ideas from our group
members from time to time, to use
their entrepreneurial skills to develop
our organization. E-business will
majorly cover the parts like proposal
designing, creative writing, logo

“The Eye”-Billboard Surveillance

It has been noted that there is a lot of
billboard theft in the country along with a
billboard company selling the same
board to different companies in the same
time frame, so the companies believe
they have the billboard put up, but the
billboard company simply layers another
advertisement over the first company‟s
advertisement. The idea is to provide
security and assurance to companies so
that the billboards they paid for are being
fully utilized.” The Eye” will act as a
watch dog over the billboards.
The idea is simple; The Eye will have
riders and outposts in various parts of the
city who travel around surveying the
billboards of their clients. A minimum fee
of 10% the cost of the billboard is charged
to the clients. Most clients do not have the
resources or the time to survey each
location they have placed a billboard in,
they tend to focus only on the main urban
areas and avoid the section B & C areas
which are used because of the high
density of population that resides there.
All clients can be assured that they will be
able to reap the maximum return on the
investment that they made on a billboard.
Clients will be charged a flat 10% fee
of the cost of the billboard they
purchased for its surveillance. There
are over 3000 billboards in Pakistan
with costs going up to Rs. 100,000/day
depending on the location. Keeping
the idea simple, all the company will
need is a small office in every city and
a few surveyors with motor bikes
which will be rather inexpensive as it
is unskilled labor. This will serve a
twofold purpose, helping in curbing
unemployment and simultaneously
preventing the theft of billboards.

social entrepreneurial idea. Through
this I am aiming to train and provide
people with the skills required to get
jobs and earn more money so that
they can earn their bread and butter
and support their families.
The problem in our society is that we
don‟t have much skilled labor due to
which not only our economy suffers
but also all those un-skilled people
suffer as well. The reason behind
this may be lack of interest, lack of
resource or motivation but the
bottom line is that their earning is
either very low or majority is unable
to earn anything. Training to unskilled
people would be provided in
the fields such as technicians,
tailors, driving, cooking and some
other similar areas. The advantage
of providing such training is that they
can learn these skills in very short
time and after training they can find
jobs easily. So my idea will work on
the following steps:

For this matter I want to introduce the
business idea of “Female Cab” for the
empowerment of women. Under this
idea only female drivers will drive such
taxis and only females will be allowed to
benefit from this service. I will start off
with 30 to 40 taxis initially and before
extending any further, I will gauge the
response to this unique service. I will
also try to avail transport contracts from
schools and offices for this service.
This female cab service will work 24/7 and
we would also offer door to door service via
phone call. Our target audience will be the

V-GROW (off-season farming)

“V-GROW” is a private business designed as a
medium size, off-season vegetable farming
unit, spreading over a land area of 9 acres. Offseason
vegetables, such as, tomatoes,
cucumber, brinjal, hot pepper, sweet peppers
and watermelon can be cultivated viably using
walk-in tunnel technology. We have restricted
our project for three crops only, i,e Tomato,
Capsicum and Cucumber. We can reach local
farmers by providing them with training and
expertise. The entire process would expose
local farmers to new farming technology and
increase their skill set in farming.
Apart from green farming, the land can be utilized
for growing seasonal vegetables like potato,
carrot, onion, garlic and cabbage etc. in the idle
period, but this may affect the fertility of the land,
resulting in reduction of yield of off-season
vegetables. It is recommended that only offseason
vegetables should be grown on the
proposed land, with a well chalked out sowing
pattern. A 9-acre farm unit will yield a total of
307,500 kg of vegetables per annum.
The proposed project of off-season vegetable
farming needs capital investment of about Rs.
1.985 million. This includes machinery and
equipment. The land utilized for cultivation is
recommended to be leased. In addition to this, a
sum of Rs. 0.254 million is also required as
working capital. The total project cost amounts to
Rs. 2.239 million. Benefits from the year-round
production include year-round income, retention
of old customers, gaining new customers, and
higher prices during the time of the year when
other local growers (who have only unprotected
field crops) do not have any produce. Other
potential benefits of season extension
technologies are higher yields and better quality.
To conclude, the project will enable the farmers
to increase their income and standard of living.
By producing non-conventional vegetables,
demand for such produces can also be met
internationally. The ultimate impact will be a
positive one on the ailing national economy which
will bring in the much needed foreign currency.
“Mukhlis”

I wish to commence an institute with the
name of “Mukhlis”. It is a socially profitable
institute designed on the principle of „Self-
Reliance‟. The institute will provide a
platform to the vulnerable society of
Pakistan to identify their potential and
achieve economic independence. It aims to
provide an opportunity to such people to
explore and execute their abilities. The plan
is to establish 4 institutes in cities based on
regional division (North, South, East and
West). It will provide accommodation,
education in different fields such as cooking,
stitching, technical education etc as well as
job opportunities to approximately 1500
people per institute. „Mukhlis‟ will be the only
institute to target the unskilled, unemployed,
low on motivation, dejected social class of
Pakistan. The idea is to convert the nonproductive
class into a productive one.
In order to further the value addition I shall
look to arrange workshops, seminars and
alike; by inviting reputed and recognized
experts within their respective fields. Both
national and international experts will be
considered. Training programs for
interpersonal skill development will also be
arranged so that the people become well
mannered and resolve different problems on
the spot. The environment will not only equip
our people with the talent but also cater to
their need for sports, recreation and
entertainment. A spacious playground facility,
movie night, formal dinner and other recreational
activities will be organized to motivate them and
to give them a feeling of happiness.
The total estimated expected cost of the
project will be around PKR. 65,000,000.
The total land area will be about 6 acres
with a capacity of up to 1,500 trainees. The
institute will be designed in such a manner
that it will cater to the needs of 1500
trainees, which includes the facility of
dining, accommodation, workshops, tailor
centre, restaurant and alike.

"Our greatest natural resource is the
minds of our children." - Early in the
morning when the children put on
different kinds of clothes and begin their
journey to schools for the sake of
knowledge, we feel a specific kind of joy
through their innocence.
But there are also children who cannot
go to schools due to financial problems,
they only watch other children going to
schools and can merely wish to seek
knowledge. It is due to many hindrances
and difficulties; desperate conditions
that they face in life. Having been forced
to kill their aspirations, dreams and
other wishes, they are hard pressed to
earn a living for themselves and for their
families. There are many children who
play a key role in sustaining the
economic life of their family without
which, their families would not be able
to make ends meet. When a child in
addition to getting education, earns his
livelihood, this act of earning a
livelihood is called as child labor.
Government as well as civilians should
take some immediate measures against
child labor. Here are some suggestions
from my side for reducing child labor.
‣ Select those families which have at least
3 children and they are living below the
poverty level and a special income
support fund should be created for
assisting them on a monthly basis.
‣ There must be assistance in the form of
monthly allowances which should not be
below Rs 5000, free uniform, free
transportation service, free books, for
those children who cannot acquire
education due to financial problems.
There must be awareness
conferences and seminars in every
city in which drawbacks of child labor
should be highlighted. May ALLAH
help us to get rid of this problem!
Addressing child labor

Working children are the objects of
extreme exploitation in terms of toiling
for long hours for minimal pay. Their
work conditions are especially severe,
often not providing the stimulation for
proper physical and mental
development. Many of these children
endure lives of pure deprivation.
Child labor is scattered all over
Pakistan, but it has the greatest impact
on a north-western province called
Sialkot. Sialkot is an important center
for the production of goods for export,
especially sporting goods.
My plan is to improvise the child labor
conditions in Sialkot as a large number
of children working there, are the sole
bread earner of their family so we
cannot just withdraw them from child
labor immediately because that would
not do any good to them instead those
children might be exploited further, so
what we can do is to transform this
negative child labor into positive by:
‣ Providing better training to the children
working in sports goods industry.
‣ Collect/study child labor data and
devise interventions that allow for
the possibility of children being in
school and working.
‣ Provide subsidies to poor families prone
to having working children so they can
afford their children's schooling (income
subsidies, nutritional supplements)
‣ Encourage children to achieve
education as well as maintain a proper
schooling system all over the city.
‣ Children who are currently working
should be treated properly and special
care should be provided to them by
giving them break for lunch and study.
‣ By providing these children some
quality education and training we can
better improvise and hone their skills.

Solar Home Systems

shortage and expensive supply of power in
the country. However, for an ordinary
man, with such difficult economic
conditions, it has become more difficult to
survive and contribute for the betterment
of the society. I would like to propose an
alternative for this. The Solar Electric Light
Fund (SELF) is an international
organization with a mission to empower
people in developing countries to rise from
poverty using energy from the sun. The
organization is already working in 22
under developed and developing countries
to meet their household needs of energy
especially in rural areas. The organization
is also working in our neighboring
countries i.e. in Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal.
The Pakistan Government in association
with the technological supervision of
SELF, should bring solar home systems
to Pakistan, especially in rural areas
where it is difficult to get an alternate
measure of power through generators
and UPS during load shedding. By
subsidizing it for the population in the
rural and urban areas, it will not only
benefit the common man, but may also
help in bringing a healthy contribution in
the economy of the country.
One Solar Home system cost $425 i.e.
approximately, RS 38,000. The
government should purchase these solar
home systems from SELF and subsidize it
for the public and make it available at a
relatively cheaper price so that everyone
could get it. The government can also
make an installment plan by which a
buyer may pay 20% and then pay the rest
in installments within one to three years.
The government may launch and operate
the business by assigning the task to the
national bank, or a recognized NGO.

friends committed and dedicated
towards making a difference to the
society. The main aim is to empower the
under privileged youth of the country,
build their self esteem, equip them with
skills or polish their talents providing
them with the opportunity to earn a
respectable living, support their families
and compete in the economy.
The group comprises of individuals who
are talented in areas of painting, pottery
and candle making, stitching &
embroidery and carpentry and are willing
to share their knowledge and expertise for
a good cause. These individuals will collect
a group of children and enhance or teach
them a skill based on interest and aptitude.
In addition to that, regular exhibitions
exhibiting work will be arranged where
these children will be allowed to sell any
merchandise prepared for such a purpose
and earn an income for it. The group
intends to first test the waters on a smaller
scale and then expand operations to a
larger scale based on the response received.

Imparting the gift of education

There are thousands of university
students in Karachi alone. If even the
students of one university come forward
and set up small schools and start
teaching, it can bring a massive change in
the city. The school doesn‟t have to be a
three storey building. It can be a simple 2
room house in the same area where the
children live so that they can come easily.
Student societies in universities have
proper form and structure. Duties are
divided among members of the society
and the same order or method of working
can be used to start and run a school.
One of the students of IoBM is already
running such a welfare project along with
his friends. This shows that my idea is not
a farfetched thought but rather it is
something that can be easily
implemented and has been actually
implemented by some people. There is
also a program by the name of “Teach for
Pakistan” which is working on the same lines.
Students can collect funds through
charity concerts and other such ways and
those funds can be used to not only pay
for the school expenses but also to
provide proper breakfast and lunch to the
children. Through this way at least twice
everyday they will be getting proper,
nutritional meals. This would be of
extreme help to the society in general
considering the fact that around 90% of
the children are anemic. I think this idea
can be implemented easily and we should
give it a thought.

for most of the people and it is in the

The market size will be big. Competition
in education industry is high and
demand is also very high as our
population is growing.
PRICE
Fees will be justified with the quality
education provided to all children. It
should be accessible and within reach
of middle class families.

Aim is to provide 100% quality services. In the
long run school will be expanded to higher
education and degree awarding institution.

Management will have good leadership,
decision making skills, verbal and

Lunch box service for office-goers

The bank has agreed to finance a business
plan submitted by a lady. The bank has
approved the plan submitted by her and
granted an initial loan of Rs. 50,000. An
order for 50 lunch boxes was placed.
Included in the lunch boxes were two main
dishes and one serving of dessert. The
transportation and hiring costs were
managed by the bank. The cost of one box
was around Rs. 70 and after one month, two
other bank branches were included. Lunch
boxes for 120 employees were being
provided. So the lady had a saving of Rs. 50.
The total profit she earned was of Rs. 6000.

status quo; it was a standard that the
people tried to meet. But now, it is a
mark of literacy, people who are
unable to speak it, are considered
illiterate, jobs and admissions in
universities are all based on the
candidate's ability to converse in
English. Yes, it is a universal language,
but completely forgetting one's own
culture and language and giving more
importance to another is like forgetting
one's own identity. Hence I would like
to propose the idea of having free
classes for English conversation and
language building skills.

Apprenticeship for children

and are often brutally treated by their
employers whom they call “Ustaad”. We
can bring a conducive change in this by
working with their employers and
arranging for their formal training in the

Skill Schools for the Common Man

A small set up can be devised in the
suburbs of the city, primarily to rent a
house of maximum 4 or 5 rooms to
facilitate the working of the school.
Different skill set such as hair cutting,
plumbing, tailoring etc will be taught
in the skill school at nominal charges.
Proposed Plan:
‣ Initially we will make them aware by
arranging small lectures in their „mohallas‟
so that they plan to seek admission in the
skill school.
‣ We will rent a house in any small suburb of
the city.
‣ Devise a small set up of various skills set in
every room.
‣ One room for electrician class.
‣ One room for tailoring class etc.
‣ Induct maximum 15 students for a 4 weeks
basic course.
‣ Course should be totally based on skills.
‣ Apart from skills they will also get the
opportunity to learn how to write Urdu so
that it will help them in their daily life.
‣ Class timings should be of 1 hour daily so
that they don‟t get bored and also don‟t take
this as a burden.
‣ Monthly fee: minimum of Rs 100 per student.
‣ Induct teachers who can provide their
services for free.
‣ At the end of the course provide a certificate
to the students who have successfully
managed to complete their course.
‣ Certification should be accredited by any
government organization or by any MNC.
Benefits to the society:
‣ People who cannot afford to attend
technical schools, will be learning skills here
so that they do not remain deprived.
‣ We are providing deprived people an
opportunity to earn living instead of begging
or earning money through false means.
