ECIL-IITB Partnership
‣ ECIL entered into agreement for Technology Transfer and License
manufacture with IIT-Bombay for Carrier Ethernet Switch Routers.
‣ Routers are devices used to distribute the data across a telecom network
‣ Applications include data centers, mobile backhaul, transport segment
‣ A proprietary technology developed by IIT-B to achieve fastest switch
routing mechanism.
3 models for TOT
‣ Access / Edge Switch Router ECR 100.
‣ Metro / Data / Centre Transport Router ECR 1000.
‣ Core OTN / Carrier Ethernet Cross-connect ECR 1010.

ECIL’s experience in implementation of the TOT agreement
‣ Academic Institutions are good in concept and functional realization.
‣ Industries are good in product engineering, qualification , volume
production, marketing , maintainability etc .
‣To liaise between the academia and the industry and bring convergence of
view points a Project Management and Implementation Committee ( PMIC)
constituted .
‣The PMIC comprises of representatives from IIT-B, ECIL and a third party
with Chairman being from the third party
‣PMIC empowered to steer the operationalisation of the TOT agreement,
effect a smooth technology transfer and production of a matured product
within short time.

IIT – Bombay - Industry Interaction
PMIC has to its credit the following :
‣ Naming of the products - Anupath, Anubal, Anugati and Anusandhan
‣ Embedding ECIL engineers at IIT to work along side the development team
to reduce hand holding in subsequent stages of product life cycle so that the
Academic institution has more time to work on upgrades and newer products
‣ Verification and validation of specifications by an independent body
‣ Feedback and Implementation as per independent reviewer report.
‣ Periodic Review , Resolution of issues and verification of inputs / outputs at
each stage of technology transfer.
‣ Environmental qualification of equipment prior to production and
implementation of feed back in series production .
‣ PMIC was instrumental in all above stages so that technology transfer is
possible for the ECR 1000 series Router within six months

Product launched in Delhi formally on 11 th April 2012 by Dr. R. Chidambaram,
Principal Scientific Advisor, Govt. of India in the presence of
Dr. Srikumar Banerjee, Chairman, AEC & Secretary, DAE

Generic suggestions for Indigenous technologies :
•Successful deployment and commercialization of licensed
products need continued engagement for a long term
• Appreciation of issues related to marketing and deployment
