The most relevant news
The most relevant recent news concerns the registration fee. The reduced fee, initially meant only for those
submitting within the first deadline, has been extended to October 10 th to anyone participating actively to
the Congress, that is, presenting a paper or serving as session chair or discussant. The reduced registration
fee was initially offered as a way of favoring those submitting proposals at the first early deadline (June 15 th
2010). Upon receiving many requests this reduced fee was offered more broadly also to those submitting
by Sept. 4 th 2010.
Those interested in attending the Congress as non-presenters will be able to register beginning November
1 st , at the registration fee applicable at that time. This is intended to ensure a place to the conference first
to the active presenters and later to non-presenters. We have received many submissions, more than
expected, and we do not want to risk an overcrowded Congress. We are honored that Rome attracts so
many people but at the same time we want to offer a comfortable meeting.
Your frequently asked questions
Following are answers to some of the FAQs we are receiving.
- I submitted considering the deadline of Sept. 4 th . Why is the deadline for reduced fee later than the
date I will receive the review feedback?
This is because the reduced fee was initially reserved to those submitting at the first deadline (June 15 th ).
Those already know whether their submissions have been accepted or rejected. We would like to leave in
place some kind of advantage to those submitting so early.
Those who submitted after June 15 th till Sept. 4 th can still use this fee; however, they would not yet know
the outcome of the review process. Reviewers just cannot accomplish their work in such short period of
time. In fact, feedback to these submissions is due by October 31 st .
- Where do I get username and password to register?
Right after you submitted you should had received a letter with username and password. You can use this
data both for registering and for checking the status of your paper. If you did not get this data, or if you lost
it please contact info@iscar2011.org
- Can I submit a new version of my paper/poster/symposium?
No. We do not need a new version of your submissions. Only abstracts will be published, and these will be
published as submitted. During the conference some kind of virtual space will be available, just for ISCAR
members, where your papers can be uploaded and downloaded; these papers can be either the one you
submitted or a new version. Nevertheless, you are encouraged to implement the comments you received
from your reviewers when preparing the presentations for the conference.
- What should I do to make sure my abstract will be included in the proceedings?
Just register before March 31 st and your abstract will be included!
- When do I get a receipt of my payment?
Please allow us some time to make sure you have paid the correct fee. For instance we need to check
whether people paying the fee reserved for ISCAR members are actually regular ISCAR members. Beginning
October 22 nd we will start sending out receipts in pdf format.
- What should I do if I want my paper to be published?
We encourage participants to prepare their work as a paper or chapter and consider one of the ISCAR
journals or book series for publication. We are organizing a panel of ISCAR-related journals during which
you can meet the editors. So far we have invited the editors of the following journals: Culture &
Psychology; Mind, Culture & Activity; Cultural-Historical Psychology.

Good news 1
The review process is progressing very well. Reviewers are doing a terrific job and we would really like to
thank them. Beginning October 31 st 2010, we should be able to send out decisions from the first set of
reviews. In case of a delay, please consider that this might result from many things that are out of our
control, but please be assured we are doing our best.
Good news 2
Call for Applications for TWO Scholarships to Participate in the 2011 ISCAR Congress in Rome
ISCAR as an organization has always sought to provide additional support to Majority World Country ISCAR
members and researchers who are interested in ISCAR and wish to attend the Congress. In line with this
important principle, we would like to offer two scholarships for researchers from the majority world**, who
would like to participate in the ISCAR Congress and do not have enough funds. The scholarships will cover
registration fees, cheap accommodation during the congress, and travel costs (up to €600). ISCAR has a
very low membership fee and no other resources, so we are obliged to keep these scholarships to a
minimum.
Interested applicants should have adequate skills in written and spoken English language and be active
ISCAR members working in one of the research fields that are described in the ISCAR Congress webpage:
www.iscar2011.org Early career researchers will be preferred. Interested applicants should apply by email to
the ISCAR Administrator: emily@iscar.org no later than 15th November 2010.
Applications must include: A proposal with a summary of at least 600 words and maximum 1500 words in
English. A brief letter which describes the job, housing and financial situation of the applicant including
details of income such as salary. Also including details of how attending the ISCAR Congress will benefit the
applicant and what impact this will have their future work. A short CV, which will include information on
previous participation in conferences, the applicant’s full contact details and contact details of two local
professors who could act as referees, in case the selection committee decides to ask for reference letters.
If the applicant and/or the referee have a webpage in any language, this information should be given as
well.
The relevance and quality of the paper proposal and of the applicant's profile as well as the hardship of
his/her financial situation will be evaluated, and the selection will be grounded on a balance of these two
factors. Long standing membership of ISCAR is desirable but not crucial.
The Panel will consider papers which have also been submitted to ISCAR Congress but these must be sent
separately to the ISCAR Administrator as detailed above. Applicants will receive a response by 31st January
2011.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. If you have any queries please contact the ISCAR
