The <strong>Conference</strong> will offer the best-of-the-best in drowning prevention<br />

programs, strategies, research and information to advance drowning<br />

prevention efforts nationwide for people with disabilities.<br />

The goal of the conference is to provide you with adapted technology<br />

and education that will enable you to help others, and we hope to provide<br />

you with the latest and most valuable tools for your clients.<br />

Join us for two days of <strong>Adapted</strong> <strong>Aquatics</strong> instruction, education and ADA<br />

law information exchange. Meet others adapted aquatics professionals<br />

and interact, network and learn the most recent techniques.<br />

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS<br />

The Planning Committee is calling for presentation proposals for the<br />

<strong>NDPA</strong> 2012 <strong>International</strong> <strong>Adapted</strong> <strong>Aquatics</strong> <strong>Conference</strong>.<br />

Presentations should focus on drowning prevention or aquatic safety<br />

topics, from a variety of different topics.<br />

Presentations should fall into one of three Track titles:<br />

The <strong>Conference</strong> is being co- hosted by the <strong>NDPA</strong> and the<br />

<strong>International</strong> Swimming Hall Of Fame<br />

In partnership with the United States Swim School Association and<br />

USA Swimming Foundation, and facilitated by<br />

Kim Burgess, <strong>NDPA</strong> Executive Director.


PRESENTATION TOPIC AREAS:<br />

SAFER WATER: Presentation topics will focus on programs, strategies, research, or policy that focuses<br />

on making the water safer, such as safety products, barriers, supervision, life guarding, enforcement,<br />

policy and legislation.<br />

Presentations can include reference to residential or commercial pools and spas; community recreation<br />

areas; open water such as oceans, beaches, lakes and rivers; bathtubs, buckets, ponds, etc.<br />

SAFER KIDS/ ADULTS: Presentation topics will focus on educating and preparing children and<br />

adults to be safer around water, such as swim instruction, educational programs, awareness campaigns,<br />

life jackets/PFDs, behavior modifications, etc.<br />

SAFER RESPONSE: Presentation topics will focus on the response to drowning incidents, such as<br />

emergency preparedness, water rescue techniques and education; CPR and rescue breathing; first<br />

response strategies and processes; medical treatment and care, etc.<br />
