The 16th Annual Meeting of the SMRT is being held 19 & 20 May 2007 in beautiful Berlin, Germany. We hope you are making
plans to be there. The Chairs of the Program and Education Committees would like to take this opportunity to announce the
“Call for Papers” for this meeting. Berlin is a striking city, well-known for its international flair, with museums, restaurants, all within its unique
culture. This location is a perfect backdrop for this year’s meeting, MR Education Without Borders. If you have not begun working on an abstract
submission, now is the time to put thoughts to paper. If you are interested in sharing your work, abstracts will be accepted with either clinical or
research focus. The meeting program this year allows for seven Oral presentations. These presentations will be made by the authors of the top
scoring abstracts. The top overall score receives the President’s Award; first, second, and third place in either clinical or research will be awarded as
well. Abstracts that are not selected for an award and oral presentation may then submit a poster electronically for poster award consideration.
Poster awards include first, second, and third in each category, clinical or research. This year, ISMRM has agreed to allow SMRT posters to be
moved, and included with the ISMRM posters following our meeting. Proffered paper award winners are welcome to present a poster as well,
however they will not be judged and will not be eligible for an additional award. We strongly encourage technologists/radiographers from around
the world to submit abstracts for judging. Online submissions and how-to tips will be available on the SMRT Web site: www.ismrm.org/smrt.
The abstract deadline is 22 January 2007.
Our educational experience begins at 07:45 on Saturday, 19 May, with opening remarks and greetings by our President, Cindy Comeau, B.S.,
R.T. (R)(MR), and the Program Chair, Vera Miller, B.S., R.T. (R)(MR). The Safety Forum begins our program with lectures by Hans Engels, Ph.D.,
and Julie Strandt-Peay, B.S.M., R.T.(R)(MR). Donald W. McRobbie, Ph.D., will then speak on Parallel Imaging followed by a short break. Oral
presentation of award winning proffered papers will precede a talk on Fusion Imaging by Anna Kirilova, B.Sc., R.T. (R)(MR). The annual SMRT
Business Meeting will be held during lunch. The Business Meeting is an open session for members to attend and learn what the SMRT is doing
to further its mission and goals. During the Business Meeting, new SMRT officers are installed. We encourage members to grab lunch and join
us! This is your opportunity to become familiar with your elected representatives. Please make plans to stay and enjoy both the posters and
the company of your fellow technologists/radiographers. After the Business Meeting there will be a Cardiac Forum, with lectures by Andrew
E. Arai, M.D., and Mercedes Pereyra, R.T. (R)(MR). Three additional lectures take place Saturday afternoon, Musculoskeletal MR, by Joshua M.
Farber, M.D.; Molecular Imaging, by Peter L. Choyke, M.D.; and, following a short break, Caroline Reinhold, M.D. will present on the Female
Pelvis. Saturday night, 19 May, after the didactic session, oral posters will be presented followed by a Walking Poster Tour and Reception.
Sunday morning will begin with opening remarks by President-Elect, Carolyn Bonaceto, B.S., R.T. (R)(MR), and announcements from Vera
Miller, B.S., R.T. (R)(MR). The Sunday program includes a full day of lectures presenting very diverse topics. Elizabeth A. Moore, Ph.D., leads off
with an MR Physics presentation. We will hear about Neuro/CNS lesions from Raquel Del Carpio-O’Donovan, M.D. After a quick break, Greg
Brown, R.T., will give a talk on Liver Ions, and Carolyn Roth, R.T. (R)(MR), will update attendees on Protocol Optimization. Just before lunch,
Lawrence L.Wald, Ph.D., will speak on fMRI and David W. Stanley, B.S., R.T. (R)(MR), will present a lecture on MR Elastography. During the
Sunday luncheon, awards will be presented to our members who have helped fulfill the SMRT’s commitment to excellence in education both
in the clinical, research, and teaching arenas. The afternoon rounds out with a Nursing Forum that includes lectures by Maureen Hood, M.S.,
R.N., R.T. (R)(MR) and Filip DeRidder, R.N. Artifacts will be addressed in a lecture by Robert J. Herfkens, M.D. Sunday’s program also includes
time for additional proffered paper presentations. Before our 17:00 adjournment there will be a presentation entitled Contrasts: How, When,
and Why, by Marco Essig, M.D., Ph.D., and Perfusion/Stroke Imaging by Leif Ostergaard, M.D., Ph.D. The Program Committee has worked
very hard to choose topics suggested on previous evaluation forms and from feedback provided by the membership. Thank you for your
thoughtful suggestions.
Berlin is a lovely city so plan to spend some time getting to know the city and its many attractions. Please join us and enjoy both our
conference and the wonderful sites of Berlin as we prove that MR education has no borders.
CALL FOR PAPERS

2006 ABSTRACT SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS We wish to
invite technologists from around the world to submit abstracts for
presentation in oral and poster sessions at the Annual Meeting. The
deadline for submitting abstracts is 22 January 2007. Abstracts
must be submitted electronically this year via the ISMRM/SMRT
Web site: www.ismrm.org/smrt. Detailed instructions will be
posted on the Web site and abstracts must be submitted according
to these instructions. Topics may describe clinical applications or
address novel research.
Again this year, SMRT will have electronic submission of posters.
Instructions for the electronic submission of posters are available
on the Web site and must be followed explicitly for the successful
handling of files. There will also be examples of posters on the
website for your reference. We sincerely hope the electronic
submission of posters will streamline the submission process for
everyone involved; from the author, to the central office, and finally
to the judges. The program committee has allotted seven (7) oral
slots for proffered papers. These will be selected by the overall
scores of the abstracts in the clinical and research categories. All
others will be invited to present their work as a poster. A small
number of poster presenters will be selected to present orally at the
SMRT Reception and Poster Walking Tour, Saturday evening.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Abstracts should state
the Purpose of the research or clinical study, outline the Methods,
summarize the Results, and finally, discuss the Conclusions from
the results. All abstracts that are submitted and pass the criteria
will be displayed as a poster or may be nominated to be included
as a proffered paper in the Annual Meeting program.
In completing the request for address information, it is necessary
that you list the presenter’s name, degree(s), preferred mailing
address, e-mail, and telephone/fax numbers. The SMRT Abstract
submission must be completed in its entirety or the submission
will not be considered. Accepted abstracts will be published in the
SMRT Annual Meeting Syllabus.
Abstract Submission Withdrawal: Written requests for withdrawal
must be received by 14 February 2007 at the ISMRM/SMRT office,
2118 Milvia Street, Suite 201, Berkeley, CA 94704, USA.
PRESENTATION INFORMATION The authors of the abstracts
accepted for poster presentations are required to attend the SMRT
Reception and Poster Walking Tour on Saturday, 19 May 2007, at
17:30. The authors of abstracts accepted for oral presentations
are required to present their paper at the scheduled day and time.
All oral and poster presenters will receive detailed instructions
and information pertaining to their presentations with their
acceptance letters.
AWARDS The President’s Award: The President’s Award was
established to honor the most outstanding abstract submitted for
the SMRT 16th Annual Meeting. The recipient of this award must
present his or her work as an oral presentation. In addition, this
recipient may also present his or her work as a poster presentation.
The honoree will receive an educational stipend in recognition of
the presenter’s award-winning abstract at the SMRT 16th Annual
Meeting. Other Awards: Additional awards will be presented to
the next highest scored submitted abstracts. These awards are
as follows: (1) Research Focus – Oral Presentation: 1st, 2nd, and
