trafc shaping is present) <strong>and</strong> a block accommodating three <strong>TCP</strong>/<strong>ATM</strong> hosts in<br />

order to be able to accept data from them. The connection paths between the<br />

source <strong>and</strong> receiver blocks are established through the "KU <strong>ATM</strong> Switch" block<br />

using connection identiers, which are equivalent to the virtual circuit identiers<br />

(VCI) used in the experiments, <strong>and</strong> treated at the receiving end with the use <strong>of</strong><br />

a FIFO queue with a server which allows <strong>TCP</strong> packets to pass through towards<br />

the specied receiver <strong>TCP</strong>/<strong>ATM</strong> host at specic time intervals, specied by the<br />

<strong>TCP</strong> processing time.<br />

The probability with which cells are passing through is<br />

calculated for this model by equation 4, <strong>and</strong> is passed as a parameter in the error<br />

block located on the downlink satellite path,<br />
