Advanced Beacon
Receiver Design
The CSI SBA-1 is a compact,
all-in-one, beacon receiver and
antenna solution. It is easily
installed, and offers a high
degree of performance and
compatibility with differentialready
GPS products.
The SBA-1 incorporates CSI’s
third generation digital receiver
technology and an innovative
antenna design to receive free
differential GPS correction signals.
DGPS beacon networks
deployed worldwide transmit
these free 300 kHz DGPS beacon
signals, and are maintained
by the Coast Guard and other
authorities.
Using these signals, the SBA-1
outputs accuracy-enhancing correction
data in the industry standard
RTCM SC-104 protocol
accepted by differential-ready
GPS products.
When in range of a DGPS beacon,
these corrections allow a
GPS navigation system to
achieve horizontal positioning
accuracy between 1 and 5
meters (95% confidence),
greatly improving upon the 100
meter standalone accuracy of
GPS.
Digital Technology
The advanced digital signal processing
techniques employed by
the SBA-1 provide reliable
reception of DGPS data, even in
noisy environments.
Installation and Interface
The SBA-1 is easily installed
using a standard 1-14-UNS
threaded mount. Interfacing is
equally simple, requiring only
power, data, and antenna
ground connections using the
supplied power/data cable.
Automatic Operation
The SBA-1 receiver is designed
for hands-free operation in the
default automatic tracking mode.
The SBA-1 uses two independent
channels to cooperatively
maintain acquisition on the best
DGPS beacon station in the
area. The receiver’s primary
channel automatically locks to
the station providing the highest
signal quality.
Configuration Software
CSI offers Windows 95/98®
software for receiver configuration
and monitoring of receiver
status. Data logging capability
and a terminal interface are also
included.
