JOB DESCRIPTION: Food Technology Technician, NJC Scale point 13 £17,195 pro rata<br />

PURPOSE: To support the Art, Design <strong>and</strong> Technology Faculty, under the direction of the Head of ADT Faculty.<br />

REPORTING TO: Head of ADT Faculty<br />

WORKING TIME: 3 days per week term time only<br />

MAIN (CORE) DUTIES<br />

To support teaching <strong>and</strong> learning across the faculty by-<br />

Establishing the organisation <strong>and</strong> inventory of material, equipment <strong>and</strong> consumables within Food Technology<br />

Managing the ordering <strong>and</strong> receiving of equipment, ingredients <strong>and</strong> materials ensuring they are put away on<br />

receipt<br />

To keep an up to date inventory of all equipment<br />

To prepare ingredients <strong>and</strong> resources for lessons <strong>and</strong> assist students with requirements<br />

Advise <strong>and</strong> assist students during lessons where appropriate<br />

Assist teaching staff by setting up equipment in the Food Technology room <strong>and</strong> clearing away leaving the<br />

room clean <strong>and</strong> tidy at the end of the day<br />

Ensure sufficient <strong>and</strong> appropriate resources are ready for projects in good time<br />

Daily maintenance of food preparation equipment <strong>and</strong> work stations, ensuring they are safe to use <strong>and</strong><br />

cleaned regularly<br />

Check <strong>and</strong> inform colleagues of all Health & Safety issues<br />

Regular filing of resources<br />

Preparation <strong>and</strong> printing of student resources/exam papers using ICT<br />

Photocopying <strong>and</strong> distribution of general information<br />

Inputting data using the school’s ICT systems<br />

Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties <strong>and</strong> responsibilities for the post, each individual task<br />

undertaken may not be identified, especially in the context of a growing school which requires flexibility in all of its<br />

employees.<br />

This job description is current at the date shown but, in consultation with the post holder, may be changed by the<br />

Headteacher to reflect or anticipate changes in the job commensurate with the grade <strong>and</strong> job title.


PERSON SPECIFICATION: Food Technology Technician<br />

Essential unless noted as desirable<br />

Qualifications<br />

<br />

No special requirements; it would be desirable to have academic qualifications indicating literacy, numeracy<br />

<strong>and</strong> a good all round education. An interest in food preparation is also desirable.<br />

Aptitude/Skills<br />

Good written <strong>and</strong> verbal communication skills<br />

Ability to show initiative <strong>and</strong> to work with minimal supervision within an agreed framework<br />

A liking for young people <strong>and</strong> an ability to adapt to a school environment <strong>and</strong> execute work in a professional<br />

<strong>and</strong> proactive manner, with due regard to both students <strong>and</strong> staff<br />

Able to advise <strong>and</strong> assist students.<br />

A willingness to undertake appropriate training<br />

Ability to work as part of a team<br />

Ability to prepare <strong>and</strong> organise resources<br />

Ability to prepare teaching materials <strong>and</strong> resources using ICT<br />

Organised <strong>and</strong> able to prioritise<br />

Good communicator.<br />
