Day 1 Toronto to Bangkok<br />

Enjoy our private car home pick up service. We greet you at the airport in Toronto and assist you with<br />

your check in. Meet your Journey Manager and fellow travellers and board your flight to Asia.<br />

Please note – our Cathay Pacific Airlines flight departs just after midnight on March 8, so your home<br />

pick up will be on March 7 th . We chose Cathay Pacific Airlines to facilitate better air connections in<br />

Day 2 Arrive Bangkok, ‘City of Angels’<br />

Our Journey Manager travels with you to ensure an efficient and effortless arrival. In Bangkok, we<br />

are wel<strong>com</strong>ed by our local guide with hands together on her chest, a slight nod and the words ‘Sah wah<br />

dee,’ the traditional Thai greeting. Our hotel is set along the edge of the scenic Chao Phraya River and<br />

offers an intriguing respite. Relax this afternoon, or begin exploring on your own. Join us this evening<br />

for a wel<strong>com</strong>e reception and dinner on the river side terrace as we feast on international cuisine. (D)<br />

Day 3 Temples & Klongs of Bangkok, ‘Venice of the East’<br />

This morning we will visit the Grand Palace, one of the most beautiful samples of an ancient Siamese<br />

court which used to be the residence of the Kings of Bangkok. Here you will see Palaces which were<br />

used for different occasions: the Funeral Palace, the Reception Palace, the Throne Hall, the Coronation<br />

Hall, the Royal Guest House and the beautiful Emerald Buddha Temple. We continue to WAT PHO<br />

with its massive reclining Buddha and ‘Chedi of the Kings’. Lunch is served at the exclusive Supatra<br />

River House, one of the finest restaurants in Bangkok.<br />

This afternoon travel by long-tailed speed boat on the picturesque Chao Phraya River and Klongs<br />

(canals) to see the serene family homes and temples along the water-ways which gives this city the<br />

name “Venice of the East”. On the return <strong>journey</strong>, stop at the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun) whose<br />

79m spire silhouette has be<strong>com</strong>e so identified with Bangkok. Enjoy a lively evening with local<br />

entertainers as they perform traditional Thai drama while we dine on delicious local cuisine. (B,L,D)<br />

Day 4 Ayutthaya River Cruise<br />

We travel through the countryside north of Bangkok to one of Thailand’s greatest treasures, Ayutthaya,<br />

once the centre of the Siamese Kingdom. It was once glorified as one of the biggest cities in Southeast<br />

Asia. During the seventeenth century, most foreign visitors, traders and diplomats alike, claimed<br />

Ayutthaya to be the most illustrious and glittering city ever visited. The Kingdom of Ayutthaya had<br />

immense wealth, military might, culture, and international <strong>com</strong>merce in the sixteenth century when the<br />

Kingdoms territory was extended far beyond present day Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar.<br />

Behold the Summer Palace of King Rama V with its mixture of Thai, Chinese and Gothic architecture,<br />

a well-preserved monument to a former historical period. A surprise awaits as the local ‘Elephant<br />

Men’ assist us aboard their charges for a unique ride and perspective through the local area.<br />

This afternoon we board our river boat for an impressive view of life along the Chao Phraya river.<br />

Enjoy lunch on board as we cruise back to Bangkok. On arrival, you can continue to the hotel, or<br />

Day 5 Floating Market & Eastern & Oriental Express<br />

We depart early this morning to enjoy one of the last rural floating markets near Bangkok. This<br />

ancient way of life has survived for generations, but today is quickly disappearing. After lunch, we<br />

attend a traditional Thai Village show which gives us a pleasant introduction to the local Thai life. We<br />

return to Bangkok and board the famous Eastern & Oriental Express, one of the most luxurious trains in<br />

the world. White gloved attendants pamper you and are always on hand to make your <strong>journey</strong> as<br />

pleasant as possible. Enjoy the views from the Observation Lounge or your private <strong>com</strong>partment,<br />

where the windows be<strong>com</strong>e portraits into another world as you glide through the countryside dotted<br />

with rice fields, villages and water buffalo. (B,L,D)<br />

Day 6 Bridge over the River Kwai<br />

Wake early this morning to enjoy the excitement of the train making its way from Wan Po along the<br />

wooden trestle viaduct. Disembark the train at the River Kwai Bridge and board a local raft for a<br />

cruise along the lush greenery of the picturesque Kwai Yai River. A local historian provides <strong>details</strong> of<br />

the Thailand-Burma Railway and the story of the famous bridge. Discover the River Kwai Bridge<br />

Museum and some of the World War II history of this region. Take some time to visit the Don Rak<br />

War Cemetery before boarding the train. After dinner, join your fellow guests and entertainers in the<br />

Day 7 Penang, Malaysia<br />

Disembark in Butterworth for a short ferry ride to the island of Penang. We enjoy a guided introductory<br />

tour of colonial Georgetown with pre-World War II mosques, elaborate roofed temples, churches,<br />

bazaars and colourful shop houses. We return to the main land and our train in time for lunch. Enjoy<br />

the endless scenery as it carries you away to distant lands. Dine in the opulent dining car followed by<br />

traditional Thai entertainment in the Lounge. (B,L,D)<br />

Day 8 Across the Straights of Johor into Singapore<br />

Enjoy the scenery this morning as the elegant E&O crosses the causeway over the Straits of Johor for a<br />

late morning arrival in Singapore. This is the city of pirates, poets, merchants and adventurers whose<br />

multi-cultural mix create a colourful and exciting atmosphere for you to explore.<br />

Let our local guide entertain you this morning as we experience the interesting culture of the Sri<br />

Mariamman Temple, which resides in the midst of China Town. We continue on to the world famous<br />

Botanic Gardens which boasts one of the world’s finest collections of orchids in the Orchid Garden.<br />

Returning to our hotel this afternoon, enjoy free time to relax around the pool or continue to explore the<br />

city in depth.<br />

To provide you with <strong>com</strong>plete freedom and the opportunity to indulge in the vast array of cultural foods<br />

nearby, dinner is at your leisure this evening. Tonight, we stroll to the Singapore Flyer, a giant<br />

Day 9 Singapore<br />

Today is at your leisure, enjoy your free time by walking through the local market, exploring the world<br />

famous shops or simply relaxing in your incredible hotel.<br />

This evening enjoy the humour of the local trishaw drivers as they take you on an evening ride where<br />

the streets of Singapore <strong>com</strong>e alive along Waterloo Street, through ‘Little India’ & Chinatown, past the<br />

City Hall and the Cricket Club. Our destination is the world famous Raffles Hotel for dinner. After<br />

dinner, perhaps you may wish to sneak away to the Long Bar, home of the famous Singapore Sling.<br />

Dinner tonight is extra special as we dine in the Tiffin room and feast on their internationally acclaimed<br />

Indian Buffet. This celebration of Indian and Asian cuisine will delight your senses. The Raffles<br />

Day 10 Singapore to Bali and lobster on the beach<br />

Depart Singapore on our morning flight to the island paradise of Bali where art, music and dance have<br />

enchanted visitors to Bali for decades. Bali's wide variety of attractions, physical beauty and<br />

year-round pleasant climate contribute to the island being voted ‘the ultimate holiday destination’ by<br />

the readers of the world’s best travel magazines, year after year. Our local guide greets us on arrival<br />

and takes us to our hotel. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure.<br />

Bali has an ancient legend from the Ramayana when King Rahwana captured Sita, Rama’s wife.<br />

This evening we witness the Kecak (Monkey) dance which depicts the battle which was prompted by<br />

King Rahwana’s actions. This evening we drive to Uluwatu for a fresh grilled seafood dinner with<br />

Day 11 Ubud Markets<br />

Enjoy a morning at leisure before we depart for a delicious local lunch. Enjoy our visit to the cool<br />

mountain region of Ubud, a centre of master craftsmen and incredible creativity. This region has<br />

inspired European artists since the turn of the last century. Ubud features the Museum of Balinese<br />

Arts where we experience the stone carvings, silver works and wood carving of Batubulan, Celuk and<br />

Mas. The Ubud Market offers a colourful display full of Bali’s arts, crafts, fruits, spices and more.<br />

Day 12 Mount Batur and the rice paddies of Tegalalang<br />

The Kehen Temple and the ancient village of Penglipuran invite us before we continue to Kintamani.<br />

The highlight for many today is the awesome spectacle of Mount Batur, an active volcano along Lake<br />

Batur, a marvel of Mother Nature. The Gunung Kawi Sebatu, built in the sixteenth century, is<br />

surrounded by lush trees and a tropical plantation. We continue on to the magnificent rice paddies in<br />

Tegalalang before returning to our hotel for dinner.<br />

Day 14 A day of relaxation before we arrive in Hong Kong<br />

Your day is at leisure before our afternoon flight takes us to Hong Kong, known as the city of life,<br />

where East and West meet to create a fascinating mix of cultures. On arrival, our local guide greets us<br />

and takes us to our hotel.<br />

Day 15 Tai Chi in Hong Kong Park<br />

Tai Chi is sometimes described as "meditation in motion." Originally developed in China as a form of<br />

self-defence, this graceful form of exercise has existed for about two thousand years. This morning, a<br />

local Tai Chi Master shows us how to gracefully perform this ancient remedy. Our orientation of the<br />

city continues with a drive through the Central District and on to the famous fishing village of<br />

Aberdeen whose people have adapted to the way of life on the river. Repulse Bay is next with its<br />

stretch of golden sandy beaches making it one of the most picturesque areas in Hong Kong. Stanley<br />

Market remains one of the most interesting areas to shop for that ‘great deal’ so a visit is a must. We<br />

continue on to Victoria Peak for a panoramic view of Kowloon and the islands of the South China Sea.<br />

Day 16 Hong Kong – ‘City of Life’<br />

Kowloon is one of the most interesting areas of Hong Kong and this morning we strike out on foot to<br />

explore this area in depth. We visit the Bird Market, Flower Market and even the goldfish market! A<br />

visit to Hong Kong would not be <strong>com</strong>plete without experiencing a Dim Sum lunch at a traditional<br />

Chinese restaurant. After lunch, enjoy a visit to the Hong Kong Museum. This evening, join us for a<br />

delightful farewell dinner in a very special venue. (B,L,D)<br />

Day 17 Hong Kong to North America<br />

A morning of free time gives you the opportunity to explore or relax at your own pace. Board your<br />

Each morning a breakfast of freshly baked croissants, coffee or tea,<br />

juice and fruit is delivered to your <strong>com</strong>partment and for those<br />

passengers wishing to rise early to take advantage of the beautiful<br />

scenery, tea and coffee will be served for you in the Observation Car<br />

from 7 am onwards. Afternoon tea, in true colonial style, with<br />

aromatic Earl Grey tea and cakes will be served in your<br />

<strong>com</strong>partment.<br />

Saloon<br />

At the end of your day relax and socialize with your fellow<br />

passengers in the Bar Car and listen to the sounds of the piano from<br />

the resident pianist. The bar is open throughout the day and late into<br />

the night for the service of cocktails, aperitifs and liqueurs and local<br />

entertainment is performed in the evenings.<br />

Observation Car<br />

As you <strong>journey</strong> through the tropical countryside and jungle terrain,<br />

past ancient temples, rivers and rice paddies experience the<br />

ever-changing scenery from the open-sided Observation Car.<br />

Customarily, the dress on board during the day is nice casual with a<br />

jacket and tie at dinner required for gentleman and similar attire for<br />
