25 or 6 to 4—Robert Lamm/arr. Murtha.
Recorded by the group “Chicago,” this signature
hit has gone on to become a rock classic. Paul
Murtha’s easy arrangement is playable with very
limited rehearsal time, but still has an authentic
and hard-driving feel. Included are optional solos
or solis for any sax and any brass instrument.
Suggested solos and scale/chord sheets in
all keys are included. Playable with optional
reduced or expanded instrumentations, it also
includes a CD. Highly recommended!
25 or 6 to 4—arr. Mike Story. You know it, you
love it! The opening motive is very catchy on this
authentic sounding chart on the rock classic made
famous by the group “Chicago.” Master arranger
Mike Story works his magic to create an accessible,
fun-to-play jazz ensemble chart. Everything
you need is written out, including brief solos for
trumpet 1, trombone 1 and optional guitar. With
easy brass ranges, it’s easy to rehearse and play,
but still a hard-driving chart. Very nice! Optional
reduced or expanded instrumentations.
BIRDLAND—Joe Zawinul/arr. Victor Lopez.
Just listen to this chart and you know you have to
have it. Victor Lopez brings the original “Weather
Report” version to life for jazz ensembles. All the
ingredients are here, plus solo space (written or
improvised) for alto 1 and/or trumpet 2, nice chord
voicings throughout, and the lead trumpet top note
is only a written G on top of the staff. Very easy to
assemble and perform, this will be a hit every time!
Optional expanded instrumentation.
BLACKBIRD—Lennon & McCartney/arr.
Tomaro. Perhaps one of the Beatles’ lesser known
tunes, Blackbird remains one of their most creative
and memorable. Mike Tomaro’s smooth setting
uses a blend of light funk along with a brief samba
section to create a truly outstanding effect. The
theme is stated simply in the beginning by trumpet,
followed by an array of orchestrational textures and
harmonies. Highly recommended!
this boogaloo groove which is blend of rock with
a funky twist will have everyone tapping their feet.
The groove will push the band forward and the
features include written or ad lib solos for alto 1,
trumpet 2 and trombone 2, lead trumpet to a written
and energy bursting from every part!
CATCH THE WIND—Paul Clark. Here’s a driving
Latin/rock tune your band and audiences will love!
The intensity is strong throughout and it has a big
finish. The written solo spots for any trumpet or alto
sax add interest, and the open improvised solo
section for any instrument has only three chords.
This chart will also work just as well without the
open solo section. Unlike some other charts written
in this style, even young rhythm section players will
quickly be able to lay down an effective Latin/rock
groove. Catch the Wind is powerful stuff!
CHAMELEON—Herbie Hancock/arr. Chris
Sharp. Herbie Hancock wrote this funky jazz
standard many years ago, but it still remains a player
and audience favorite with its hip bass line and hot
melody. This modern take on this funk classic has
plenty of room to get your groove on with the famous
melody. There’s also room for soloing over the friendly
chord progression or breaking it down with some very
hip ensemble sections. Don’t miss the great passage
where the rhythm section drops out and the horns go
it alone. Nice chart on a great standard!
very likable melody this chart also features a development section followed by a full
shout chorus. Sounding more advanced than it plays, it includes modest brass ranges
and optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. Paquito’s Revenge is very sweet
indeed! Highly recommended!
Cantaloupe Island—Herbie Hancock/arr. Dave Mills.
This Herbie Hancock favorite is a Latin/funk chart that will become a favorite of
developing groups. With a medium tempo, a straight-eighth groove and a catchy
melody, it also features written or improvised solos for tenor sax and trumpet. Intense
at a quieter level!
Catch The Wind—Paul Clark. Here’s a driving Latin/rock tune your band
and audiences will love! The intensity is strong throughout and it has a big finish. The
written solo spots for any trumpet or alto sax add interest, and the open improvised
solo section for any instrument has only three chords. This chart will also work just as
well without the open solo section. Unlike some other charts written in this style, even
young rhythm section players will quickly be able to lay down an effective Latin/rock
groove. Catch the Wind is powerful stuff!
Kool Bean—George Vincent. Composer George Vincent mixes a rock flavor
with a little Latin spin on this easy chart. With a very pretty melody and no solos, it
features solid ensemble writing all the way through. Other features include accessible
brass ranges with lead trumpet part only to written E, top space and playable with
optional reduced or expanded instrumentations. You’ll really like this one!
10277314 Jazz Ensemble...................................... VE 36.00
Manteca—Dizzy Gillespie/arr. Burke. Made famous by the great Dizzy
Gillespie, this funky Latin burner is sure to be the hit of any performance. After the funky
opening, the tune switches gears into a hard bop swing featuring a written or ad lib
solo for alto sax over some terrific ensemble backgrounds. It’s then back to the opening
Latin theme to close out the chart with a big finish that your crowd will love!
10280620 Jazz Ensemble...................................... M 65.00
Beach Bossa—Roy Phillippe. The title is perfect for the cool, laid-back feel of
this bossa nova original for advancing groups. Melodic motives are assigned to the full
ensemble and to various sections of the band. Written or ad lib solos are provided for
alto saxophone and flugelhorn, and all four trumpets play flugelhorn throughout. This is
an ideal change-of-pace chart for your next performance.
10189327 Jazz Ensemble..................................... ME 48.00
My Little Suede Shoes—Charlie Parker/arr. Rich Sigler.
This chart is captivating! It is a bossa with a straight-eighth feel at about 140 beats per
minute. It’s clever, creative, fun to play and the best part is it’s not difficult to rehearse
or perform. Everything is written out to include alto 1 and tenor 1 solos, some melodic
action for all sections, modest brass ranges, and an interlude with winds only building
into a great shout chorus. A “must-have” chart for sure! Highly recommended!
Optional expanded instrumentation.
10277649 Jazz Ensemble..................................... ME 44.00
Night And Day—Cole Porter/arr. Mike Lewis. Beginning with excerpts
from the verse into the melody with a smooth bossa feel, Mike Lewis brings it all
together to create this excellent chart. The sections bounce the melody back and forth
with solis, there’s a brief solo melody line for trumpet 1, the lead trumpet range is
to written G on top of the staff, and accurately notated rhythm section parts. A fine
arrangement of a great standard!
