YMCA<br />
The YMCA Residence is conveniently situated less than a 10-minute walk<br />
from Cambridge city centre, meaning students are well placed to sample<br />
local attractions. The school is only a 20-minute walk away or 15 minutes by<br />
bus (bus number 18), so students can easily get to and from classes.<br />
This self-catering residence consists of 32 single study bedrooms, 27 single<br />
with shared bath and 5 single ensuite, with shared kitchen and bathroom<br />
facilities. The residence also has staff available 24 hours a day, on-site<br />
laundry facilities and a telephone for incoming calls.<br />
Each study bedroom has a single bed with bed linen provided, fridge/freezer,<br />
wash basin, shaver socket and wireless internet access. Kitchens are wellequipped,<br />
enabling students to easily cater for themselves.<br />

Meals/Kitchen<br />
Self-catering. There are a number of<br />
communual kitchens, each shared<br />
between four students, and equipped<br />
with all items necessary for students to<br />
cater for themselves (kitchens however<br />
do not have microwave ovens).<br />
Rooms<br />
Each study bedroom has a single bed,<br />
fridge/freezer, wash basin, shaver<br />
socket and wireless Internet access.<br />
Bathrooms<br />
The bathroom facilities are shared. 20<br />
bedrooms on one floor share 4 showers<br />
and 4 toilets. 12 bedrooms on the other<br />
floor share 4 showers and 5 toilets.<br />
Utilities<br />
Electricity, gas and water are included<br />
in the accommodation fee. Electrical<br />
current is 240 volts AC (50 cycles)<br />
and students from some countries<br />
may require a transformer and a plug<br />
adaptor.<br />
Internet and phone<br />
There is a landline phone in the<br />
residence, on which students may<br />
receive incoming calls between 9am<br />
and 9pm on weekdays and between<br />
9am and 8pm at weekends. Students<br />
wishing to make outgoing calls are<br />
advised to use their mobile phones<br />
or purchase a calling card for use on<br />
public telephones. Connection to and<br />
use of the Internet at the residence is<br />
included in the charge of the room,<br />
subject to a reasonable usage policy.<br />
Laundry<br />
There is a communal launderette on<br />
the ground floor of the residence. Cost<br />
per use is £1 for the washing machines<br />
and 50p for the dryers. Students need<br />
to provide washing powder themselves.<br />
Irons and ironing boards are available.<br />
Security and keys<br />
Access to the building is through the<br />
front doors only. These are locked at<br />
approximately 10pm each night, but<br />
access can be gained after this time by<br />
ringing the bell at the front entrance.<br />
There are residence staff available 24<br />
hours a day. Students are given a room<br />
key on arrival that also unlocks the door<br />
to their kitchen. Keys must be handed<br />
in to reception on the day of departure.<br />
There is a charge of £8 for lost keys.<br />
Cleaning<br />
Cleaners will service bedrooms and<br />
communal areas once a week. Students<br />
are however still responsible for<br />
cleaning up after themselves.<br />
Linen and towels<br />
Bed linen is provided to students and<br />
laundered weekly. Students must bring<br />
their own towels.<br />
Deposit<br />
A refundable housing deposit of £150<br />
must be paid on arrival at the school by<br />
credit card or debit card.<br />
Visitors<br />
All visitors must be over the age of<br />
16 unless accompanied by a parent.<br />
All visitors must sign in and out at<br />
reception with valid photographic ID,<br />
and vacate the building by midnight.<br />
Maximum two visitors are allowed<br />
per student at any one time. Students<br />
are allowed 16 overnight stays over a<br />
3-month period. Overnight guests must<br />
be booked in by 6pm on the night in<br />
question. Only one overnight guest per<br />
student is allowed at any one time.<br />
Arrival and departure<br />
Students must provide their arrival and<br />
departure details in advance so that<br />
staff members can be made aware and<br />
be available to help.<br />
Availability<br />
Rooms at the YMCA residence<br />
are offered between 30.06.12 –<br />
18.08.2012 to students aged 18 and<br />
over. Please check availability.<br />
