3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION<br />

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW<br />

IMMEDIATE CONCERNS: CAUTION. Avoid breathing vapors or spray mist. Take prudent precautions to<br />

avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. ALWAYS wear chemically-resistant gloves (Ex: neoprene, or<br />

nitrile) when handling this product.<br />

POTENTIAL HEALTH EFF<strong>EC</strong>TS<br />

EYES: Causes temporary irritation, tearing, and blurred vision.<br />

SKIN: Can cause skin irritation. Can cause a burning or prickling sensation on more sensitive areas (face,<br />

eyes, mouth).<br />

SKIN ABSORPTION: Harmful if absorbed through the skin.<br />

INGESTION: Harmful if swallowed. Can cause stomach irritation, resulting in nausea, cramps and vomiting.<br />

Can cause nervous system disorders, such as fatigue, dizziness, headaches, lack of coordination.<br />

INHALATION: Excessive inhalation may be irritating to the respiratory tract.<br />

4. FIRST AID MEASURES<br />

EYES: Hold eye open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if<br />

present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing eye. Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment<br />

advice.

SKIN: Take off contaminated clothing. Rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. Call a<br />

poison control center or doctor for treatment advice.<br />

INGESTION: If swallowed, call a poison control center or doctor immediately for treatment advice. Have person<br />

sip a glass of water if able to swallow. Do not induce vomiting unless told to do so by a poison control center or<br />

a doctor. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.<br />

INHALATION: Remove affected person to fresh air. If person is not breathing, call 911 or an ambulance, then<br />

give artificial respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth if possible. Call a poison control center or doctor for further<br />

treatment advice.<br />

NOTES TO PHYSICIAN: For skin effects, a highly efficient therapeutic agent for pyrethrin exposure is topical<br />

application of tocopherol acetate (Vitamin E).<br />

HAZARDOUS COMBUSTION PRODUCTS: Under fire conditions this product may support <strong>com</strong>bustion and may<br />

de<strong>com</strong>pose to give off toxic gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen oxides.<br />

FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Treat as an oil fire. Use a full-faced self-contained breathing apparatus along<br />

with full protective gear. Keep nearby containers and equipment cool with a water stream.<br />

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES<br />

SMALL SPILL: Stop release, if possible without risk. Dike or contain release, if possible, and if immediate<br />

response can prevent further damage or danger. Isolate and control access to the release area. Take actions to<br />

reduce vapors. Absorb with appropriate absorbent such as sand, or vermiculite. Clean spill area of residues<br />

and absorbent.<br />

LARGE SPILL: Stop release, if possible without risk. Dike or contain release, if possible, and if immediate<br />

response can prevent further damage or danger. Isolate and control access to the release area. Take actions to<br />

reduce vapors. Collect product into drums, storage tanks, etc., via drains, pumps, etc. Absorb with appropriate<br />

absorbent such as sand or vermiculite. Clean spill area of residues and absorbent.<br />

WATER SPILL: Contains Pyrethrins, which are toxic to fish and other aquatic invertebrates. Contaminated<br />

absorbent and wash water should be disposed of according to local, state, and federal regulations.<br />

state/provincial and federal/national regulations.<br />

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE<br />

HANDLING: Wear chemically impervious gloves such as neoprene or nitrile. Wear a long-sleeved shirt, long<br />

pants, shoes and socks. Mechanical ventilation should be used when handling this product in enclosed<br />

spaces. Wearing a respirator is not normally required when handling this product, but re<strong>com</strong>mended in the<br />

absence of proper mechanical ventilation. Do not contaminate water, food or feedstuffs by storage, handling, or<br />

disposal. Read and observe all precautions and instructions on the label.<br />

STORAGE: Store in a cool, dry place. Keep container closed. Do not use or store near heat, open flame, ignition<br />

sources, or near strong acids, bases, and oxidizers. Emptied containers may retain product residues.<br />

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

ventilated areas. Take prudent precautions to avoid breathing vapors and/ or mists of this product. In the<br />

absence of proper mechanical ventilation or where exposure limits are exceeded, wear a NIOSH-approved<br />

organic vapor respirator.<br />

OTHER USE PR<strong>EC</strong>AUTIONS: AGRICULTURAL USE REQUIREMENTS:<br />

Use this product only in accordance with its labeling and with the Woker <strong>Protection</strong> Standard, 40 CFR, Part<br />

170. This Standard contains requirements for the protection of agricultural workers on farms, forests, nurseries,<br />

and green houses, and handlers of agricultural pesticides. It contains requirements for training,<br />

decontamination, notification, and emergency assistance. It also contains specific instructions and exceptions<br />

pertaining to the statements on the label about personal protective equipment (PPE), and restricted-entry<br />

interval. The requirements listed below only apply to uses of this product that are covered by the Worker<br />

<strong>Protection</strong> Standard.<br />

Do not apply this product in a way that will contact workers or other persons, either directly or through drift.<br />

Only protected handlers may be in the area during application. For any requirements specific to your State or<br />

Tribe, consult the agency responsible for pesticide regulation. Do not enter or allow worker entry into treated<br />

areas during the restricted entry interval (REI) of 12 hours.<br />

PPE required for early entry to treated areas that is permitted under Worker <strong>Protection</strong> Standard and that<br />

involves contact with anything that has been treated, such as plants, soil, or water, is: Coveralls; Chemicalresistant<br />

SENSITIZATION: When applied dermally to albino guinea pigs, this product appears to be a dermal sensitizer.<br />

COMMENTS: None of the <strong>com</strong>ponents present in this material at concentrations equal to or greater than 0.1%<br />

are listed by IARC, NTP, OSHA or ACGIH as being carcinogens.<br />

Carcinogenicity/ Oncogenicity-Pyrethrum has been tested in chronic feeding studies in mice and rats. Slightly<br />

elevated incidences of benign tumors of the thyroid and liver were seen in rats following high doses of<br />

Pyrethrum. Further detailed scientific studies into the mechanism causing these responses indicate that these<br />

effects in the animals only occur at doses greatly exceeding the likely human exposure levels. Thus, the effects<br />

seen in animals are of little relevance to humans.<br />

12. <strong>EC</strong>OLOGICAL INFORMATION<br />

<strong>EC</strong>OTOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION: This pesticide is extremely toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms.<br />

Do not apply directly to water. Drift from treated areas may be hazardous to organisms in adjacent aquatic<br />

sites. Do not pour product or rinse water down any drain. Do not contaminate water when disposing of<br />

equipment washwaters or rinsate.<br />
