Entry at 11+
The majority of our students enter Year 7 at age 11 – 12. All girls are required to attend the 11+
Entrance Day to sit the school’s own entrance examinations in English and Mathematics
(alternative arrangements can be made for students living overseas). Girls will also sit a
computer based test which covers literacy, numeracy and non- verbal reasoning. An offer of a
place is based on the results, an interview and a reference from the current school. For
Academic scholarships a shortlist of candidates will be invited to attend our scholarship recall
day. Practical scholarship assessments for drama, music and sport will be held on separate days.
Admission
Main points of entry to Kent College are at 11+, 13+ and 16+. Our policy is to accept students
with a range of abilities, which will span between those who are extremely able and those who
require moderate learning support or have gaps in their knowledge due, for example,
to interrupted schooling or illness. We can support such a range of abilities by providing a
high level of individual attention through small classes and close monitoring.
Entry at 13+
At the age of 13 – 14, students enter Year 9 after taking examinations in English, Mathematics,
Verbal Reasoning, Languages and Science. An offer of a place is based on the test results, an
interview and a reference from the current school (alternative arrangements can be made for
students living overseas). Auditions and assessments for Music, Drama, Sport and Art
scholarships are held following the examinations. Offers for a 13+ place may be made through
the 11+ process in Yr 6. Please contact the Admissions office for further details.
Entry at 16+
Entry to study AS/A Level courses is conditional on the student gaining at least six passes at
grade C or above in GCSE, IGCSE or equivalent examinations. A or B grades are expected in the
subjects a student hopes to study at AS level, certain subjects require an A grade. An offer of a
place is also based on an interview, recent school reports and a reference from the current
school. Students whose first language is not English are also required to sit entrance tests in
English as an Additional Language and Mathematics. We will focus upon a student’s suitability
to study for their chosen A level courses. Limited places are available.
Visits
We strongly recommend that, if possible, prospective students and their parents visit the
school to meet the Headmistress, staff and girls and to see our facilities.
Open Mornings are held each term and appointments can be made with the Director of
Admissions by telephoning +44 (0) 1892 820218. In order to gain the most from your visit to
the school we recommend that tours are arranged on a weekday during term time.
Applications & Registration
If you would like your daughter to sit our entrance examinations please complete and return
the Application Form together with a non-refundable registration fee of £100 (EU Residents)
or £150 (non EU Residents). Please make cheques payable to ‘Kent College Pembury’. You
may also apply online via our website www.kent-college.co.uk and the fee may be paid by
secure credit card transaction.
Scholarship awards are based on the reduction of fees. The maximum value of any scholarship is 10%.
However this may be supplemented by a school bursary in certain circumstances. 11+ and 13+ scholarship
assessments and auditions are held in November and February. Further information is sent to those parents
whose daughters are registered, prior to the examinations. A pupil may apply for a maximum of two
practical scholarships. In specific circumstances (e.g. relocation) we may consider honouring a scholarship
awarded by another school. This is done in consultation with the Head of that school.
Limited assistance with fees is available to allow eligible girls to benefit from an education at Kent College.
Bursaries are based on a declaration of family income and an interview with the parents. Please contact the
Head of Finance on +44(0)1892 820220 for further details and an application form.
Academic
Academic scholarships at 11+ and 13+ are offered to those girls who achieve the highest marks in the entrance tests. There is therefore, no need to declare an interest in an academic scholarship on application
Kent College is delighted to announce its best ever GCSE year with a record breaking 58% at
A* - A with 26% of grades an A*. This is the first set of results since the school’s move to
the more rigorous IGCSE at English and, with over 25% gaining an A*, the move seems
justified. In Biology and Latin 100% of all pupils achieved A* & A grades. In other areas of
the curriculum outstanding achievement was seen in subjects such as Business
Communications, Geography, Drama, German, Physics, Spanish and PE.
“I am very happy and delighted to get A* grades in all three Sciences which means I will
be able to achieve my goal of studying Medicine at university. I can’t wait to get into the
Sixth Form and to specialise in my subjects. My teachers helped so much and they have
been truly inspirational.” Lucy, GCSE Pupil
“Staying on at the Sixth Form and doing the subjects I am passionate about is going to be
fantastic, I really can’t wait, I just feel so overwhelmed!” Catharine, GCSE Pupil
Headmistress’ comment
These high academic standards are achieved by concentrating on the needs of the girls as
individuals. The headline percentages are impressive in their own right, but when you
consider that our value added scores show that girls at KC gain results of around one grade
higher in each subject than they would have done elsewhere, it’s even more remarkable.
Some individuals have really excelled gaining around 2.5 grades per subject. What could
have been a C is an A or an A* at KC.
Kent College Pembury has enjoyed yet another successful academic year which has seen a significant
pass rate increase since 2011 with 93% A* - C grades at A level and with almost half of all results
gained, an A* or A. Individuals have surpassed their expectations and gained well-deserved results
that will see them achieve top university places at their chosen destinations.
“Having achieved 4As at A Level and now knowing I have got into my first choice of university to
study English and Drama at Leeds, I couldn’t be any happier. Kent College helped prepare me for
these exams in many ways and encouraged us to work hard academically and to play hard at all
the extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities at the school.” Bianca, Yr 13 leaver
“I’m really pleased to get such good results and that I got my first choice university. I’ve been
really surprised with one of my grades, I got a B at AS Level, and really hoped for an A at A2 – and
I got it! The support from my teachers has been really good, I’ve been so happy at Kent College,
and this has helped me achieve these grades.” Rhiannon, Yr 13 leaver
Headmistress’ comment
We continue to be proud of the academic achievements of the girls at KC and our increasing strength
in traditional academic subjects. This year, particular praise must go to departments such as Classics,
Geography and Music, who have gained exceptional results. However, the girls are entering an
extremely competitive world when they leave school and it is more important than ever that they
are also developing leadership skills and the confidence to make them employable as well as highly
qualified. At Kent College, we pride ourselves on producing young women ready for the future in
every way.
Higher education destinations
University destinations in recent years:
In recent years, Kent College students have proceeded to universities and art colleges either directly after A Levels or after
taking a gap year.
The school’s professional Careers Adviser, Mrs Shukla and her team of Careers Tutors provide individual guidance on choosing
the right course and place of study, making applications and preparing for interviews. Visits to universities, Open Days and
Careers Conventions are organised for students in the Sixth Form.
“Pupils are thoroughly prepared for the next stage in their education and for adult life. Help for Sixth
Formers in preparing higher education applications is exemplary.” Independent Schools Inspectorate
Kent College girls consistently surpass their expectations by not only gaining strong A levels in the Sixth Form, but by securing
first choice university places at a collection of prestigious universities on some of the most exciting courses.
Parents of our students are delighted with the achievements their daughters gain in GCSE and A-Level examinations:
“Last week brought the news of my daughter’s excellent A level results. With the full benefit of
hindsight, our choice of Kent College over a local grammar school has been vindicated not just by the
results but by the friends she has made, the supportive atmosphere of the school and the various
intellectual and extra-curricular challenges she has encountered”.
Parent of Year 13 Student
“I was delighted with my daughter’s GCSE results and would like to thank all the staff for helping her
achieve them. Her History teacher proved to be inspirational as her A* seemed an impossibility a year
ago. I would also like to thank her form tutor, who for the last three years has been a constant source
of wisdom and encouragement. She has certainly flourished in your care.”
School fees

Fees listed are per term.
Fees for day girls include tuition, lunches and some activities.
Fees for boarders (including all meals), tuition and some activities. All laundry charges
except dry cleaning are included.
Fees include most of the books and stationery required but we encourage pupils to
purchase some text books, and other consumables for specific lessons.
Fees do not cover items such as uniform, trips, holidays and external examination fees.
The school budgets on an annual basis and the fee is divided equally into three instalments
for the convenience of parents. Any reduction in costs for the school due to a student’s
absence during study leave or following examinations is marginal and has already been
discounted in setting the budgets.
Under no circumstance will the school remit any part of the fees because of absence for any reason. Please see
the section on ‘insurance’ for further information.

expenditure. The school, as part of its mission, does try to offer assistance to families who would not usually be
able to give their daughter the benefits of an independent education. These assisted places/bursaries are based
on a declaration of family income and an interview with the parents. For further information about available
awards please contact the Bursary.
Bursaries may also be awarded to girls already at the school who, due to a change in parents’ circumstances,
would otherwise be unable to stay at Kent College. These are also means tested.
For families who are registered Methodists, funding may be available via the Methodist Bursary Scheme.
causes an absence from school. All pupils are included in the following two optional schemes unless parents inform the
Bursary in writing that they do not wish to participate.
Personal Accident Scheme: A termly fee of £6.25, which includes annual travel insurance, is payable in advance.
