LEADERS Program. All of us that have contributed <strong>to</strong> this program feel that <strong>the</strong> leadership<br />

skills acquired at Ketter<strong>in</strong>g University through <strong>the</strong> myriad of activities available <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> students<br />

have been <strong>in</strong>valuable <strong>to</strong> us <strong>in</strong> achiev<strong>in</strong>g our career and personal goals. We created <strong>the</strong> Ketter<strong>in</strong>g<br />

LEADERS program <strong>to</strong> share our experiences with students and <strong>to</strong> re-affirm <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> students of <strong>the</strong><br />

Ketter<strong>in</strong>g community how positive of an impact leadership and <strong>in</strong>volvement will have on <strong>you</strong>r<br />

lives <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> future. We hope that each of <strong>you</strong> has found or will f<strong>in</strong>d <strong>the</strong> same enjoyment <strong>in</strong> <strong>you</strong>r<br />

extracurricular <strong>in</strong>volvement <strong>in</strong> and around Ketter<strong>in</strong>g University, and we wish <strong>you</strong> all <strong>the</strong> best <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> future as <strong>you</strong> strive <strong>for</strong> excellence <strong>in</strong> all <strong>you</strong>r endeavors and <strong>in</strong>fluence <strong>the</strong> communities<br />

His<strong>to</strong>ry of <strong>the</strong> Ketter<strong>in</strong>g LEADERS:<br />

The Ketter<strong>in</strong>g University LEADERS Endowment Fund was established <strong>in</strong> 1999 by a small group<br />

of recent alumni as a way <strong>to</strong> promote leadership development on campus. These alumni, all<br />

student leaders <strong>the</strong>mselves, recognized <strong>the</strong> value of identify<strong>in</strong>g students with leadership potential<br />

and giv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>ols needed <strong>to</strong> develop <strong>the</strong>ir skills. Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> two years that followed, <strong>the</strong><br />

alumni fur<strong>the</strong>r developed that idea and this mission statement:<br />

“The mission of <strong>the</strong> Ketter<strong>in</strong>g University LEADERS Endowment is <strong>to</strong> support and develop <strong>the</strong><br />

leadership potential and <strong>in</strong>tegrity of <strong>the</strong> students of Ketter<strong>in</strong>g University, <strong>to</strong> provide <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

perpetuation of <strong>in</strong>novative leadership skills with<strong>in</strong> and outside Ketter<strong>in</strong>g University, and <strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>sure <strong>the</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ued reputation of Ketter<strong>in</strong>g University as a school of leaders.”<br />

The alumni group set a goal of establish<strong>in</strong>g a $1 Million endowment <strong>in</strong> order <strong>to</strong> support<br />

leadership programs at Ketter<strong>in</strong>g. O<strong>the</strong>r student leader alumni were recruited <strong>to</strong> jo<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Endowment, not just as donors, but also as active participants <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> organization. The alumni,<br />

who support <strong>the</strong> Endowment with f<strong>in</strong>ancial donations also run <strong>the</strong> Endowment, select <strong>the</strong><br />

Endowment recipients and plan <strong>the</strong> Leadership programs.<br />

Students who are selected <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Endowment receive a wide variety of Leadership tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g both<br />

on and off campus. Currently, that tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>cludes Leadershape, which is a nationally<br />

recognized tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g program <strong>for</strong> leaders, as well as on campus workshops and a weekend retreat<br />

hosted by <strong>the</strong> alumni. As part of this tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, students are asked <strong>to</strong> practice <strong>the</strong>ir leadership<br />

skills by develop<strong>in</strong>g a program that gives back <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ketter<strong>in</strong>g community. Also, students are<br />

matched with alumni men<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> assist <strong>the</strong>m with one-on-one guidance <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir Ketter<strong>in</strong>g career<br />

as well as <strong>the</strong>ir life after Ketter<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

In 2002 <strong>the</strong> Endowment selected its first class of fellows and has added two more classes s<strong>in</strong>ce.<br />

All students are enjoy<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> fruitful leadership tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g offered by <strong>the</strong> fellowship. With over 30<br />

alumni, <strong>the</strong> Endowment is rapidly grow<strong>in</strong>g and is proud <strong>to</strong> accept applications <strong>for</strong> its fourth<br />

fellowship class.
