Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the application for the Kettering
LEADERS Program. All of us that have contributed to this program feel that the leadership
skills acquired at Kettering University through the myriad of activities available to the students
have been invaluable to us in achieving our career and personal goals. We created the Kettering
LEADERS program to share our experiences with students and to re-affirm to the students of the
Kettering community how positive of an impact leadership and involvement will have on your
lives in the future. We hope that each of you has found or will find the same enjoyment in your
extracurricular involvement in and around Kettering University, and we wish you all the best in
the future as you strive for excellence in all your endeavors and influence the communities
around you.

History of the Kettering LEADERS:
The Kettering University LEADERS Endowment Fund was established in 1999 by a small group
of recent alumni as a way to promote leadership development on campus. These alumni, all
student leaders themselves, recognized the value of identifying students with leadership potential
and giving them the tools needed to develop their skills. During the two years that followed, the
alumni further developed that idea and this mission statement:
“The mission of the Kettering University LEADERS Endowment is to support and develop the
leadership potential and integrity of the students of Kettering University, to provide for the
perpetuation of innovative leadership skills within and outside Kettering University, and to
insure the continued reputation of Kettering University as a school of leaders.”
The alumni group set a goal of establishing a $1 Million endowment in order to support
leadership programs at Kettering. Other student leader alumni were recruited to join the
Endowment, not just as donors, but also as active participants in the organization. The alumni,
who support the Endowment with financial donations also run the Endowment, select the
Endowment recipients and plan the Leadership programs.
Students who are selected for the Endowment receive a wide variety of Leadership training both
on and off campus. Currently, that training includes Leadershape, which is a nationally
recognized training program for leaders, as well as on campus workshops and a weekend retreat
hosted by the alumni. As part of this training, students are asked to practice their leadership
skills by developing a program that gives back to the Kettering community. Also, students are
matched with alumni mentors to assist them with one-on-one guidance in their Kettering career
as well as their life after Kettering.
In 2002 the Endowment selected its first class of fellows and has added two more classes since.
All students are enjoying the fruitful leadership training offered by the fellowship. With over 30
alumni, the Endowment is rapidly growing and is proud to accept applications for its fourth
fellowship class.
