Welcome back to King’s! The
children were very excited to
return to school and catch
up with their friends. We
welcomed Trinity to our class
on Monday too and everyone
has been doing a great job
helping new children settle
into school.
On Monday I found an
interesting parcel sitting on
my desk (see photo) to help
me throughout the year! My
Teacher’s Survival Kit had
many interesting items inside
such as:
students to soak up knowledge
Cotton ball – to help soften rough times
Balloon – to remind the
students to reach for the sky
Paper clip – to remember to
keep everything together
Rubber band – to remind me
to be flexible
Sponge – to encourage
I showed the class and then we set about making a Student’s Survival Kit! We discussed as a
group the qualities and strengths that are useful to have in school such as: kindness, confidence,
organized, independent thought etc. Next we thought about suitable items we could put in our
kit to remind us of these things throughout the year. E.g. A paper chain, to remind us to add
friends to our group and work well together. The children had lots of fantastic ideas to share
with the class and then wrote these out during our English lesson.
Here are some of the great ideas the class came up with:
An eraser – to remind us that it is ok to make mistakes
A camera – to catch special moments with our friends
A light bulb – to remember to think independently
A wand – to remember to use our imagination
A snack box – to feed our brains
A bull dog clip – to remind us to be organised
A football – to roll with the changes
A marble – to remind us to use our manners
A sand timer – to remind us to be patient and not rush things
A megaphone – to help us speak loudly and to have confidence
