BE A BRAGGIN’ DRAGON<br />

2010 – 2011 SCHOOL YEAR<br />

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):<br />

The entire eighth <strong>grade</strong> will take part in the Be a Braggin’ Dragon Incentive Program for the 2010-2011 <strong>school</strong><br />

year. The <strong>incentive</strong> focuses on motivating students to achieve their academic goals, helping students see the<br />

importance of <strong>be</strong>ing self-disciplined, responsible students, and allowing students to <strong>be</strong>come more involved<br />

within their community. The students will have to meet academic, discipline, and community service<br />

requirements in order to <strong>be</strong> invited to the Dragon Fest on Friday, February 11, 2011 from 1:00-2:25. Please<br />

read <strong>be</strong>low for the specific requirements.<br />

Academic Requirements<br />

To remain eligible for the Dragon Fest, a student must maintain a C average or <strong>be</strong>tter in all of his/her core team classes<br />

for the first semester. A student who earns a <strong>grade</strong> lower than a C in any core team class during the first marking period<br />

must improve that <strong>grade</strong> to an overall C average by the end of the second marking period to <strong>be</strong> eligible. Any student that<br />

finishes the first semester with any <strong>grade</strong> <strong>be</strong>low a C in any of his/her core team classes will not <strong>be</strong> permitted to participate<br />

in the Dragon Fest.<br />

Behavior Requirements<br />

Students must model good <strong>be</strong>havior throughout the semester in order to participate in the Dragon Fest. Student <strong>be</strong>havior<br />

for the <strong>incentive</strong> will <strong>be</strong> rated on a point scale. Each student will <strong>be</strong>gin the year with 100 points for <strong>be</strong>havior. Students<br />

must maintain 80 points by the end of the semester to remain eligible to participate. Points will <strong>be</strong> taken away for the<br />

following disciplinary actions:<br />

Community Service Requirements<br />

Students must complete ten hours of community service in the first semester to <strong>be</strong> eligible for participation in the Dragon<br />

Fest. Students are encouraged to research <strong>program</strong>s and organizations in the area for which to volunteer. When a student<br />

completes a community service session, he/she will fill out his/her community service form and have the director of that<br />

organization certify that the hours were completed. The students must have all community service hours completed by<br />

Friday, January 28, 2011. Community service forms are located on the Kingsway website.


Determining Future Eligibility<br />

Students who are found to <strong>be</strong> ineligible at the end of the first semester will have the opportunity to participate in the<br />

second Dragon Fest. They will have the slate wiped clean and will <strong>be</strong> able to start fresh in the 3 rd marking period.
