About the Filmmakers<br />
TOM McCARTHY (Directed By/Screenplay By/Produced By) was known primarily as a busy<br />
working actor until he burst onto the filmmaking scene with his critically acclaimed first feature THE<br />
STATION AGENT, released in 2003 by Miramax Films. THE STATION AGENT premiered at the<br />
Sundance Film Festival, where it was awarded the Audience Award and the Waldo Salt Screenwriting<br />
Award. The film was also awarded the BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay and two <strong>In</strong>dependent<br />
Spirit Awards, including the John Cassavetes Award (given to the best feature made for $500,000 or<br />
less). The National Board of Review named it third on their list of the Ten Best Films of the Year. It<br />
was nominated for three SAG Awards, including Best Ensemble, and was also nominated by the WGA<br />
for Best Original Screenplay. The film won awards at many film festivals, including San Sebastian,<br />
Stockholm, Mexico City and Aspen.<br />
McCarthy followed this with the equally acclaimed THE VISITOR in 2007. McCarthy won the<br />
award for Best Screenplay from the San Diego Film Critics Society, the Best Director award from<br />
Methodfest, the Satellite award for Best Screenplay, and the <strong>In</strong>dependent Spirit award for Best<br />
Direction, and was nominated for a Writers Guild award. At the Deauville Film Festival, McCarthy<br />
received the Grand Special Prize. Richard Jenkins received an Oscar nomination as Best Actor, and the<br />
film itself was nominated for numerous awards including an Image Award, a Gotham award, and a<br />
David di Donatello Award.<br />
<strong>In</strong> 2009, McCarthy shared story credit with Pete Docter and Bob Peterson on the hit animated<br />
feature UP for which he received an Oscar® nomination.<br />
<strong>In</strong> addition to his writing and directing, McCarthy continues his career as an actor. He made his<br />
screen debut in the 1992 film CROSSING THE BRIDGE, and went on to appear in such films as<br />
FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS, SYRIANA, GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK, YEAR OF THE DOG,<br />
MEET THE PARENTS, ALL THE KING’S MEN, DUPLICITY, 2012 and THE LOVELY BONES.<br />
He was featured in the final season of HBO’s critically acclaimed series THE WIRE, and also appeared<br />
in NEW YORK UNDERCOVER, SPIN CITY, LAW AND ORDER, LAW AND ORDER: SVU,<br />
ALLY MCBEAL and BOSTON PUBLIC.<br />
JOE TIBONI (Story By) has been an elder care attorney for 16 years. He founded his<br />
practice in 1995 in his hometown of New Providence, NJ, the setting of WIN WIN. The small<br />
firm grew into a family business when his wife joined in 1998. Mr. Tiboni has been a lifelong<br />
friend as well as a former high school wrestling teammate of writer/director Tom McCarthy.<br />
