PURE ÉIRE DAIRY
Recalls
Organic Raw Milk because of Health Risk
Pure Éire Dairy has recalled Organic Raw Milk because it may be
contaminated with Escherichia coli bacteria (E. coli) that can cause
serious illness. This recall is for Pure Éire Organic Raw milk only and
does not include Pure Éire Organic Pasteurized milk.
Pure Éire Organic Raw Milk dated 6/8/2013 and later has been
recalled. Impacted milk products are sold in ½ gallon glass and plastic
containers, as well as 1-gallon plastic containers.
Recalled Organic Raw Milk was sold in Washington State including
retail locations in the following cities: College Place, Ephrata, Kettle
Falls, Kennewick, Moses Lake, Pasco, Richland, Spokane, Spokane
Valley, Walla Walla and West Richland.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return it
to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions
may contact the company at 509-301-9512.
Pure Éire Dairy voluntarily initiated the recall after a Washington State
Department of Agriculture (WSDA) routine monthly sampling discovered toxin producing E. coli in a raw
milk sample. Pure Éire has been proactive in notifying customers and removing recalled product from retail
accounts as a precaution. WSDA and Pure Éire Dairy are continuing their investigation into the source of
the problem.
Shiga toxin-producing E. coli infections may cause severe diarrhea, stomach cramps and bloody stool.
Symptoms generally appear three to four days after exposure, but can take as long as nine days to appear.
The infection sometimes causes hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious disease in which red blood cells are
destroyed and the kidneys fail. Infants, children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with compromised
immune systems are especially at risk. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should contact a health care
provider.
Retail raw milk is legal to buy and sell in Washington, but there are serious potential health risks.
Consumers should read the warning label on the retail raw milk container carefully and ask their retailer to
verify the milk was produced and processed by a WSDA licensed operation.
