HiPAP ® 351P
Portable High Presicion Acoustic Positioning

Introduction
HiPAP ® 351P series are the portable
models of the HiPAP ® systems. With
its unique and compact transducer
containing receiver and transmitter
electronics along with a variety of
high quality motion sensors it will
bring highest underwater positioning
data into the services for “vessels
of opportunity”. The HiPAP ® 351P
series are the only systems available
offering automatic beam steering from
portable transducers.
The transducers are designed to be
mounted on a shaft for installation
over-the-side or through a moonpool
of a vessel. The transducer
can be tilted to utilize the 160°
cone operating area in the sector
of the required area. There will be
no need for extra calibration, or
mechanical fine adjustments, as the
internal Motion Reference Unit will
automatically compensate for the tilt.
A built-in North seeking heading
sensor is also available. This is based
on an inertial measurement unit
including Ring Laser Gyros. This
makes heading calibration of the
transducer unnecessary which saves
time during mobilization/start-up.
The HiPAP ® 351P series are also
System overview
capable of using the new Cymbal
wideband signal system available
with the cNODE ® transponders.
The Cymbal wideband signals give
higher accuracies, both for range
measurements as well as angle
measurements.
Cymbal adds another 50 channels
in addition to the 56 tone channels
available. Telemetry speed when
using wideband can be up to 8 kbit/
sec, depending on acoustic conditions.
Senor data from the transponders are
transferred together with navigation
pulses.
Max. operating temeprature in water:..........................35 °C
* Due to the risk of overheating the transducer electronics
when the unit is on deck, an internal temperature switch
will switch off the power if the inside temperature exceeds
60 ºC.
NOTE:
It is very important to use transponders with strong enough
output source level to obtain highest S/N ratio and thereby
also the best SSBL accuracy. All HiPAP 351P models
include attitude sensors with different accuracies. HiPAP
351P includes MRU-H, HiPAP 351P-5 includes MRU-5
and HiPAP 351P-I includes an IMU and provides also
heading relative north.
1)
The SSBL accuracy specifications are based on: free line
of sight from transducer to transponder, no influence from
ray-bending, 20 dB Signal to Noise ratio and no error from
heading and roll/pitch sensors.
