For many new Jayhawks, college preparation
began long before the application process.
Parents, grandparents and great-greatgrandparents
established roots on the Hill, earning
KU degrees and passing the tradition through the
family tree.
This year’s Jayhawk Generations feature includes
200 freshmen who continue the tradition—some of
which originated in the University’s earliest years.
These students have already achieved success in
academics, athletics, theatre, music and community
service. Many of the Kansans graduated in the
top 10 percent of high school seniors and earned
recognition as Kansas Honor Scholars.
The Office of Admissions and Scholarships
worked alongside the Alumni Association’s Julie
Hedges and Helen Meseraull to trace KU family
histories. The roots run deep as students make their
home on Mount Oread and proud parents celebrate
another branch on the Jayhawk tree.
