Orff Schulwerk Level I and III(3 credits) $450<br />

The Orff_Schulwerk is an approach to music education that engages<br />

students in musical literacy, formal and critical analysis, improvisation<br />

and composition. Students in an Orff‐Schulwerk classroom<br />

compose music, play instruments, sing alone and with others,<br />

dance, write poetry and other lyrics, experiment with form and<br />

actively engage in the creative process. This course will deepen the<br />

participants' understanding of this nationally recognized approach<br />

and provide them with the content knowledge to implement it in<br />

their classrooms.<br />

Pre‐requisites<br />

Level I Orff Schulwerk<br />

Undergraduate degree in music, music education or a strong<br />

avocational interest in music.<br />

Level III Orff Schulwerk<br />

Successful completion of an AOSA approved Level 2 course<br />

Linda Ahlstedt is a past<br />

President of the American<br />

Orff‐Schulwerk Association<br />

and past editor of the Orff<br />

Echo. She is the recipient of<br />

the Rochester Philharmonic<br />

Orchestra Outstanding<br />

Teacher of the Year Award.<br />

A well‐know national and<br />

international workshop<br />

clinician,<br />

she is the author/composer of several music books for<br />

children.<br />

Patrick Ware holds degrees<br />

from Westfield State College,<br />

Radford University and<br />

Shenandoah Conservatory.<br />

He completed his Levels and<br />

Apprenticeship at George<br />

Mason University. Patrick<br />

Teaches Grades K‐5 general<br />

music in Prince William<br />

County ,Virginia.<br />

Special focuses in his classroom and courses include the<br />

use of movement and arts integration across the<br />

curriculum.<br />

Donna Nagle holds degrees<br />

from Curry College and Lowell<br />

University. She completed her<br />

levels at Lowell University.<br />

Donna teaches in the Weston<br />

<strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong>. In addition to<br />

being a sought after clinician,<br />

Donna is on the adjunct faculty<br />

at the University of Massachusetts<br />

Lowell.<br />

Donna founded the Society for General <strong>Music</strong>, an umbrella<br />

organization which seeks to unite practitioners of the Orff,<br />

Kodaly, Dalcroze and Gordon approaches in pursuit of<br />

excellence in music education.<br />

Lisa Leach holds degrees from<br />

Sophie Newcomb College and<br />

Syracuse University. Lisa is the<br />

Performing Arts Liaison for the<br />

<strong>Worcester</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> and a<br />

general music teacher. In her professional<br />

development work, Lisa<br />

focuses on movement in the classroom<br />

and assessment issues.<br />

Recorders Plus: General <strong>Music</strong> Using Classroom Instruments :<br />

Donna Nagle, Instructor.<br />

Many music teachers teach soprano recorders in the third and/or fourth grade as a<br />

means of developing note reading skills. But did you know that you can use the<br />

recorder for much more by developing your own playing skills? The recorder makes<br />

a great accompaniment instrument and saves your voice from having to sing all<br />

day. This course will include a course of study for beginning recorder players plus<br />

many ways of leading other activities with the recorder. Come play and sing and<br />

dance and things for two full days of musicianship training.<br />

Folk Dances from Around the World: Lisa Leach, Instructor.<br />

Explore folk dances from many lands and enjoy our guest artist teachers. We will<br />

learn contra dances, square dances, bachata, meringue, salsa and more! We will<br />

also explore arts integration, basic movement development and movement<br />

improvisation.<br />
