OUTLINE PRESS RELEASE
PLEASE PUBLISH AT YOUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE
Flero (Brescia), Italy, Wednesday, 9 th March 2005
Outline at Frankfurt s ProLight+Sound
Outline will launch the following new products at Frankfurt s ProLight+Sound 2005:
H.A.R.D. 45 SP
The series of top-end stage monitors will be expanded by the H.A.R.D. 45 SP, the most
compact in the range, but with the same original design appreciated in the larger (115 and 212)
models. In spite of its ultra-slim profile, miniaturized dimensions (40 x 45 x 30 cm) and
ridiculously light weight, H.A.R.D. 45 SP can push out a peak SPL of 129 dB/1m, thanks also to
the powerful built-in PWM amplifiers supplying 2-way (low and high) power to the speakers
mounted in the enclosure. With four special 5 mid-woofers (the same as those mounted in the
Micra II enclosures) and a compression driver with a 1" throat loaded by the same S.P.R.W.G.
(Single Parabolic Reflective Wave Guide) used for the other models in the range, H.A.R.D. 45
features, among other things, exceptionally fast transient response.
Designer Guido Noselli explains: It would have been easier - and much less expensive - to use
a 10 woofer instead of four 5" ones, but it's very unlikely that we would have achieved the same
naturalness in speech reproduction and, in spite of the enclosure s compact dimensions, we
wouldn t have managed to achieve the sound projection the H.A.R.D. 45 is able to give on both
planes and, thanks to this feature, very low feedback risk . H.A.R.D. 45 has another strong
point: the possibility of being stored inside the new Global Sub, saving considerable space
during transport (see Global Sub).
Global Sub
Global Sub + 2 Micra II Global Sub + H.A.R.D. 45 SP Global Sub + Globe-Source
This subwoofer exploits Outline s internationally patented space-saving philosophy, used for
the first time with the Kanguro system which, precisely thanks to this feature, received the
Award for Product Excellence at the 2001 Plasa Show in London. So this is not just a normal
15 sub, but also a container (complete with a cover) able to hold three different Outline
loudspeaker systems: H.A.R.D. 45, a pair of Micra II, or the Globe Source adjustable multidirectivity
sound radiator (for which it is the ideal complement for a wide variety of
measurements in the architectural acoustics field).
Global Sub is also designed to hold other Outline products currently being developed. As far as
performance is concerned, GSS (Global Subwoofer Source) has a powerful (500W continuous
on 4 Ohms) built-in PWM power amp, can give a maximum SPL of 132 dB/1m and goes down
to 35 Hz. A passive (non-powered) version is also available. A photo-gallery illustrating this
unit s potential better than any description can be found at the following URL:
D4-2K (DHD Series)
New-generation two-unit rack mounting amplifier, the first in the new DHD digital range. Four
channels with 530 W each on 4 Ohms (4 x 310 W on 8 Ohms) which only on request can
have a 24dB/octave output filter. Thanks to this option, it s possible to power any two-way
stereo system made up of satellites + a separate subwoofer with just one D4-2K, without
requiring any expensive additional DSP units. The D4-2K uses cutting edge COM Pulse
Modulation technology which, as well as ensuring remarkable power, gives acoustic
performance similar to that of expensive hi-end amplifiers, but at a very interesting price. As is
customary with Outline amps, the chassis of this new range is also extremely sturdy and
complete with handles for a sure grip and therefore easy transport. Although they are 4-channel
units, these amps weigh just 14.5 kg. Detailed technical specifications will be announced soon.
COM. P.A.S.S.
COMpact Polar Adjustable Sound System
Outline will give detailed information on the world's first example of robotics applied to
loudspeaker enclosures at ProLight+Sound 2005, before the official presentation, scheduled for
London s PLASA expo.
COM. P.A.S.S. - With the Compact Polar Adjustable Sound System, Outline has once again
come up with a product for which the description unusual is definitely an understatement. It is
a loudspeaker element intended to form vertical line arrays, but also able to be used as a standalone
unit, like any other wide-range high performance enclosure.
Its revolutionary feature consists in the fact that its horizontal and vertical dispersion can be
remote controlled as required via software, with wide variation on both planes, once the
enclosure has been positioned alone or in multiple when used for sound reinforcement.
The angular variations possible are from 60° to 180° on the horizontal plane (even with
asymmetric settings) and from 0° to 15° on the vertical plane. As well as this extraordinary
possibility offered by each individual enclosure, a further adjustment system is included, which
can also be remote controlled and enables to regulate the splay between the elements used to
form line arrays.
In spite of the seven active components and a sophisticated internal mechanism, these units
are remarkably light and compact. As usual, Outline has applied for a patent for this product in
Italy and abroad. To facilitate dispersion adjustment to the utmost, a laser system (for which a
patent application has also been made) shows the aiming of the axes of each element s HF
section and the limits of the horizontal coverage area.
On the Outline stand (Hall 4.1 Stand C51) there will obviously also be the Butterfly Line Array
which (as well as others already received) was recently granted US patent N° D500,306S for its
design. A complete list of this system s patents can be found in a special area at the following
