WHAT IS THE <strong>IRIS</strong> CENTER?<br />
Who We Are<br />
Funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special<br />
Education Programs (OSEP), the <strong>IRIS</strong> <strong>Center</strong> is headquartered<br />
at Vanderbilt University <strong>in</strong> Nashville, Tennessee, and Claremont<br />
Graduate University <strong>in</strong> Claremont, California. Our primary objective is<br />
to create and <strong>in</strong>fuse res<strong>our</strong>ces <strong>about</strong> evidence-based practices <strong>in</strong>to<br />
preservice preparation and professional development programs. To<br />
facilitate this process, <strong>IRIS</strong> dissem<strong>in</strong>ates and offers tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>gs on those<br />
res<strong>our</strong>ces.<br />
Developed <strong>in</strong> collaboration with nationally recognized researchers and<br />
education experts, <strong>IRIS</strong> res<strong>our</strong>ces are designed to address <strong>in</strong>structional<br />
and classroom issues of great importance to today’s educators,<br />
issues like response to <strong>in</strong>tervention (RTI), classroom behavior management,<br />
and early childhood <strong>in</strong>struction, among many, many <strong>more</strong>.<br />
<strong>IRIS</strong> res<strong>our</strong>ces are used <strong>in</strong> college <strong>in</strong>struction, professional development<br />
activities, and <strong>in</strong>dependent learn<strong>in</strong>g opportunities for practic<strong>in</strong>g<br />
educators.<br />
What We Do<br />
Among <strong>our</strong> primary goals, the <strong>IRIS</strong> <strong>Center</strong> seeks to:<br />

Develop free, onl<strong>in</strong>e res<strong>our</strong>ces <strong>about</strong> work<strong>in</strong>g with<br />
children with disabilities (birth through age 21) and their<br />
families<br />
•<br />
Provide technical assistance, dissem<strong>in</strong>ation, and<br />
tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g activities geared toward college and university<br />
faculty, professional development providers, and<br />
practic<strong>in</strong>g educators<br />
•<br />
Improve pre-service and professional development<br />
tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and improve opportunities for <strong>in</strong>dependent<br />
learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Improve the awareness, knowledge, and skills of<br />
current and future service providers and educators<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>IRIS</strong> Website offers a broad array of enhancement materials for<br />
faculty and professional development providers to use to supplement<br />
