<strong>Toome</strong> <strong>Driving</strong> <strong>Trail</strong><br />

Your start point for this <strong>Trail</strong> is the<br />

village of <strong>Toome</strong> in Co Antrim.<br />

When you arrive in the village locate<br />

the brown sign for the Canoe <strong>Trail</strong>.<br />

Ensure you secure your car<br />

before starting out on this trail.<br />

Start Here<br />

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to obtain<br />

the access code to prevent the destruction of the new <strong>Toome</strong><br />

Bridge. You will have to use all your skills, knowledge and<br />

powers of deduction to prevent the detonation of<br />

the valuable asset.<br />

Write all answers to each clue in the<br />

combination box to gain the access code.<br />

Looking around you, identify the<br />

information panel with reference to<br />

the Lough Neagh Canoe <strong>Trail</strong>, walk<br />

to this panel to solve your first two clues.<br />

Clue 7<br />

Searching the marker, identify<br />

the surname of the designer<br />

What slippery fish can be found<br />

in Lough Beg and is yellow/<br />

brown in colour?<br />

Clue 2<br />

What location on the map can<br />

be found at GR 990-981?<br />

With your back to this clue turn right<br />

and walk to the large metal gates blocking<br />

the road ahead of you. Close by you will<br />

discover another information panel.<br />

Once you have enjoyed the views,<br />

follow the canal path back towards your<br />

car. Along the way you will discover a<br />

metal SUSTRANS directional marker.<br />

Clue 6<br />

The cycle network panel can be<br />

found close by. What is the length of<br />

the Lower Bann cycleway?<br />

Clue 5<br />

Searching the panels, what<br />

species of bird can be seen as a<br />

group of three?<br />

Continue walking along the canal path<br />

keeping the canal to your right; as you<br />

approach the end of the walk you will<br />

discover a panel with reference to<br />

wildlife in the area.<br />

Follow the path back to your car.<br />

Drive out of the carpark back into the<br />

village, turn left following the road<br />

directions to Ballyronan. Once you arrive<br />

in Ballyroan, follow the directions into<br />

the marina. Park your car in any of the<br />

car parks before setting off again.<br />

Clue 8<br />

To the rear of the main building<br />

you will discover a motor home<br />

camping area, close by you will<br />

discover a large mural with reference<br />

to local wildlife. Searching the map,<br />

what is the name of the location<br />

linked to the RSPB?<br />

With your back to this clue, look<br />

right and you will discover a track l<br />

leading into the wood. Follow the<br />

path to uncover some more clues.<br />

Clue 3<br />

In what year was the <strong>Toome</strong><br />

Bridge built?<br />

Walk past the gates following the canal<br />

path. Along the way you will discover<br />

an information panel with reference<br />

to <strong>Toome</strong> Castle.<br />

Who held this castle in 1688<br />

during the Williamite wars?<br />

Clue 9<br />

Locate the panel with reference to<br />

wet woodland. What is one of the<br />

first flowers to bloom in spring?<br />

the Drumconvis Road then Battery Road<br />

until you arrive at Battery Harbour.<br />
