own water from the river, which is chlorinated by IOM when
they return. As of 24 January, 308 latrines are operational at
the camp, along with 32 bathing units. Refuse collection is
becoming more frequent, with eight trucks transporting solid
waste between 23 and 24 January. Hygiene promoters are
conducting household visits within the camp, focusing on the
prevention of waterborne disease. 1,960 households were
reached with hygiene messaging in the past week.
HEALTH
Malakal
Health assistance for IDPs in the UNMISS Malakal Protection
of Civilians (PoC) area is a major concern, as the UNMISS
Status of IDP registration in UN bases
Level 2 Hospital was destroyed by shelling and emergency
health partners that were initially providing support were
pulled out due to the security situation.
On 26 January IOM reopened a clinic on the UNMISS Malakal
base, filling a gap left by the departure of the previous health
partner. The clinic consists of three 20m2 prefabricated
buildings, one of which is serving as a dispensary. Tents will be
erected for triage and waiting areas. IOM currently has two
medical assistants, two nurses and one pharmacist on the
ground in Malakal.
Sixty consultations were conducted on the clinic’s first day of
operations. Medical staff have been speaking with community
leaders to inform them about the opening of the clinic. IOM
and partners are working on a mass measles vaccination
campaign, set to begin as soon as a reliable cold chain can be
re-established in Malakal.
An IOM health team arrived in Bentiu
on 21 January to set up a semi-static
health care is urgently needed for the
IDP population. Consultations began on
CAMP COORDINATION AND
CAMP MANAGEMENT
The Camp Coordination and Camp
Management (CCCM) Cluster
coordinates and monitors the targeted
and effective delivery of sector-specific
services in displacement sites, thereby
ensuring that basic humanitarian living
conditions are maintained for IDPs,
while also building the foundations
for voluntary return and recovery
interventions where it is possible and
safe to do so. IOM and UNHCR colead
the CCCM Cluster, in coordination
with ACTED.
Wau 699
Aweil 18
Total 93,679
IDPs are being registered as they arrive
in Wau. No new arrivals have been
reported as of 23 January.
Registration is ongoing in Aweil as
needed.
Insecurity and over-congestion remain
the major challenges faced at IDP sites
in the country. The population remains
highly fluid as a result of ongoing
instability. Strengthening of mechanisms
to promote law and order within IDP
sites is essential.
