Round 2 IBEP Application Instructions
APPLICATION
All portions of the 2011-12 International Business Exchange Program (IBEP) application must be
completed by the deadline in order to qualify for full-term IBEP. Given the high demand for
participation in IBEP, incomplete or late applications will not be considered by the IBEP
Committee.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: 5:00 p.m. CST, Friday, September 23, 2011
SELECTION PROCESS
A committee consisting of various Booth offices will consider the following factors when
determining a student’s participation in IBEP:
• Motivation and enthusiasm for study abroad
• Research in IBEP options and thorough knowledge of schools/programs
• Booth academic performance
• Creativity, relevance, and quality of essays
• Current and/or community activities
• Potential for the applicant to be a good ambassador of Chicago Booth
• Interview (by invite only, if deemed necessary)
Special Note to Declared IMBA Candidates
Since IBEP is a requirement for IMBA students, all declared IMBA students must have
completed at least one international business course by spring 2011
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS WHEN APPLYING
Please keep in mind the following when completing the IBEP application. Accepted
participants:
• Must have successfully completed three Chicago Booth courses prior to applying to IBEP
and must complete a minimum of ten courses prior to studying abroad.
• Forfeit the two Pass/Fail grading options offered during their program of study. Full-term
IBEP course work equates to three Booth electives with grades of Pass/Fail posting on
the Chicago Booth transcript. Additionally, it is strongly recommended that students
arrange a meeting with an academic advisor to discuss IBEP plans and remaining
academic requirements prior to departure to partner school.

• May apply to IBEP if on probation; however, academic performance is taken into
consideration and may result in a conditional admittance to IBEP.
• Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
• Are unable to study at a partner school in their home country. IBEP is designed as a
cultural exchange and, therefore, our partner schools do not accept nationals as
exchange students.
• Are expected to attend the exchange program in its entirety and participate fully in all
domestic and partner school programming after the IBEP offer is accepted.
REQUIRED DEPOSIT
To confirm participation in IBEP, a $2000 deposit is required by October 14, 2011. Deposited
funds will be applied towards tuition for the quarter abroad.
WITHDRAWAL POLICY
Students wishing to withdraw from IBEP must do so, in writing, to International Programs.
Students should be advised that withdrawal from IBEP after deposit deadlines will forfeit the
$2000 deposited funds.
ESSAY QUESTIONS
The essay questions are a significant and heavily weighted portion of the IBEP application.
Write a minimum of one page for each question below and attach your essays to this
application. Successful essays demonstrate solid reasons for studying abroad and thorough
knowledge of schools and programs of choice.
1. Based on your IBEP research, what led you to choose these top three partner schools
and how does each relate to you: academically, professionally, culturally/personally?
(You should answer the question for each school listed).
2. Travel/study abroad can present stressful, even isolating, situations. Given the
circumstances and the region, managing a difficult situation varies greatly. If you,
a) Previously Traveled/Studied Abroad, relate a difficult experience while abroad,
how you managed it, and what you learned from the experience; or
b) Are Going Abroad for the First Time, describe what issues you anticipate and
what your plans are for managing yourself while resolving the situation.
