I walked out of the elevator on the 62nd floor at the Mori Modern
Museum of Art in Tokyo last October in anticipation. Sensing Nature:
Rethinking the Japanese Perception of Nature, the banner read.
The conceptual and super sensory exhibit demonstrates our relationship
with nature. A lightbulb went off…
Like the residents of Tokyo, I had made every attempt while living in
Manhattan to make nature an important part of my life and counter the
hectic and stimulating city lifestyle. Saturdays in Central Park with the
kids, picnicking under a 100 year old Oak tree and weekend walks
alongside the Long Island dunes gave me the balance that I needed.
Now as an Angelino, the challenge is to appreciate nature and not take
its beauty for granted.
In December, I walked through Hyde Park in London bundled up on a
perfect chilling wintery day and stumbled on the Anish Kapoor mirror
sculptures. I stood in front of the C-Curve, a concave stainless steel
piece, in awe. You find yourself in the middle of this reflection on one
side you appear short and stout as the mirror distorts and on the other
all appears tall and stretched and upside down. The reflection of the
trees envelop you and dominate. It is elegant, simple, and thoughtprovoking.
This season is an ode to trees at La LOOP. I am inspired by their
permanence, and our dependence on them. The change in them
from season to season—buds appear, leaves change in color. Like
trees, La LOOP has a permanence but is ever-changing. A La LOOP
becomes a part of you. When you wear one, you realize you cannot
live without.
I hope La LOOP brings you beauty and simplicity this coming season.
