Job Description
Title: Research Director
Basic Function: Supervises all phases of the NREMT Research Program and work accomplished by
the Research Fellows. Works with the Executive Director to assure research goals are progressing
according to the Strategic Plan. Responsible for the design and execution of independent scientific
research focused on NREMT research priorities.

Essential Functions:
Effectively communicates with the public, stakeholders, EMS officials and candidates
Works in a team centered management system
Gives input to the Executive Director regarding the NREMT strategic direction, mission, and
participates in the development of the NREMT research agenda, goals and projects
Conducts research
Publishes manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.
Selects NREMT Research Fellows in collaboration with staff
Assures academic progress of Research Fellows and advises and counsels them.
Recommends the NREMT Research projects for the Strategic Plan
Budgets research proposals and assure appropriate expenditures for research.
Reads and approves all manuscripts developed by Research Fellows
Coordinates NREMT Board of Directors Research Committee meetings, establishes agendas and
leads discussions based upon the NREMT Research priorities
Submits ideas for research projects within expected budget abilities
Orients and teaches new Research Fellows regarding their job functions
Assures Research Fellows complete NREMT job functions and follows company policies
Completes tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to oversee projects to completion and within standards
Ability to supervise, evaluate and counsel personnel
Ability to complete reports and communications related to job functions
Ability to educate others regarding job responsibilities
Ability to travel, speak to stakeholders regarding the NREMT mission, plans and directions
Ability to present reports to the Board of Directors, committees and others as directed
Works within the boundaries of the NREMT Strategic Plan
Ability to complete job tasks, attend meetings and travel as required

Remains free of criminal activity and unethical activity that may inhibit promotion of the
NREMT mission and image
Education:
Doctorate in a Science related field
Working Conditions:
Works as a team member with senior management
Works directly for the Executive Director regarding the Research Program
Supervises the Research program
Works flexible hours
Travels as directed and necessary
Attends and participates in continuing education
Specific Requirements:
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language
Strong written & oral communication skills
Must be able to effectively communicate with the public with good presentation skills
Strong management skills, as shown through management of multiple projects and/or staff
members
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel
and the general public
Good organizational skills with the ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities
Ability to organize work to meet deadlines
Must be willing to seek out new ideas for the improvement of the NREMT
Self-motivated, curious, entrepreneurial, and enthusiastic about new learning opportunities
Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and passion as well as the willingness to handle
difficult staff, stakeholders, and situations
Strong knowledge of statistical principles & strong data analysis skills
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
Must be able to see, hear or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to
assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work
effectively with personnel, visitors, government agencies, and the general public, etc.
Must be able to move up to 50 pounds with the use of an auxiliary device. Must be able to lift up
to 100 pounds with the aid of an assistant
