<strong>Title</strong>: <strong>Research</strong> <strong>Director</strong><br />
Basic Function: Supervises all phases <strong>of</strong> the NREMT <strong>Research</strong> Program and work accomplished by<br />
the <strong>Research</strong> Fellows. Works with the Executive <strong>Director</strong> to assure research goals are progressing<br />
according to the Strategic Plan. Responsible for the design and execution <strong>of</strong> independent scientific<br />
research focused on NREMT research priorities.<br />

Essential Functions:<br />
Effectively communicates with the public, stakeholders, EMS <strong>of</strong>ficials and candidates<br />
Works in a team centered management system<br />
Gives input to the Executive <strong>Director</strong> regarding the NREMT strategic direction, mission, and<br />
participates in the development <strong>of</strong> the NREMT research agenda, goals and projects<br />
Conducts research<br />
Publishes manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.<br />
Selects NREMT <strong>Research</strong> Fellows in collaboration with staff<br />
Assures academic progress <strong>of</strong> <strong>Research</strong> Fellows and advises and counsels them.<br />
Recommends the NREMT <strong>Research</strong> projects for the Strategic Plan<br />
Budgets research proposals and assure appropriate expenditures for research.<br />
Reads and approves all manuscripts developed by <strong>Research</strong> Fellows<br />
Coordinates NREMT Board <strong>of</strong> <strong>Director</strong>s <strong>Research</strong> Committee meetings, establishes agendas and<br />
leads discussions based upon the NREMT <strong>Research</strong> priorities<br />
Submits ideas for research projects within expected budget abilities<br />
Orients and teaches new <strong>Research</strong> Fellows regarding their job functions<br />
Assures <strong>Research</strong> Fellows complete NREMT job functions and follows company policies<br />
Completes tasks as assigned<br />
Minimum Qualifications:<br />
Ability to oversee projects to completion and within standards<br />
Ability to supervise, evaluate and counsel personnel<br />
Ability to complete reports and communications related to job functions<br />
Ability to educate others regarding job responsibilities<br />
Ability to travel, speak to stakeholders regarding the NREMT mission, plans and directions<br />
Ability to present reports to the Board <strong>of</strong> <strong>Director</strong>s, committees and others as directed<br />
Works within the boundaries <strong>of</strong> the NREMT Strategic Plan<br />
Ability to complete job tasks, attend meetings and travel as required
Remains free <strong>of</strong> criminal activity and unethical activity that may inhibit promotion <strong>of</strong> the<br />
NREMT mission and image<br />
Education:<br />
Doctorate in a Science related field<br />
Working Conditions:<br />
Works as a team member with senior management<br />
Works directly for the Executive <strong>Director</strong> regarding the <strong>Research</strong> Program<br />
Supervises the <strong>Research</strong> program<br />
Works flexible hours<br />
Travels as directed and necessary<br />
Attends and participates in continuing education<br />
Specific Requirements:<br />
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language<br />
Strong written & oral communication skills<br />
Must be able to effectively communicate with the public with good presentation skills<br />
Strong management skills, as shown through management <strong>of</strong> multiple projects and/or staff<br />
members<br />
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel<br />
and the general public<br />
Good organizational skills with the ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities<br />
Ability to organize work to meet deadlines<br />
Must be willing to seek out new ideas for the improvement <strong>of</strong> the NREMT<br />
Self-motivated, curious, entrepreneurial, and enthusiastic about new learning opportunities<br />
Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and passion as well as the willingness to handle<br />
difficult staff, stakeholders, and situations<br />
Strong knowledge <strong>of</strong> statistical principles & strong data analysis skills<br />
Physical and Sensory Requirements:<br />
Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds<br />
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday<br />
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress <strong>of</strong> the position<br />
Must be able to see, hear or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to<br />
assure that the requirements <strong>of</strong> this position can be fully met<br />
Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work<br />
effectively with personnel, visitors, government agencies, and the general public, etc.<br />
Must be able to move up to 50 pounds with the use <strong>of</strong> an auxiliary device. Must be able to lift up<br />
to 100 pounds with the aid <strong>of</strong> an assistant
