Before you buy a 

wood-burning stove 

For most people, the woodburning 

stove is one of the 

biggest financial investments 

they will make in their home, 

and so it should last for many 

years. Here are some of the 

most important things you 

should check before choosing 

your product: 

Chimney 

If you don’t already have a 

chimney, ask whether the dealer 

can install a flue or chimney that 

is right for your wood-burning 

stove. If you already have a 

chimney, it’s important that 

you have it checked to make 

sure it’s working properly. 

Installation 

Any authorised Scan dealer will 

be pleased to advise you with 

installation in your home. 

We fully recommend that 

you follow the dealer’s advice. 

Size 

It’s important to get a woodburning 

stove that’s the right 

size for the area to be heated. 

A stove that is too big can be 

just as much of a problem as 

a stove that is too small. 

Clearance 

Know the applicable regulations 

relating to distance to non 

combustible materials such as 

the walls and floor in question. 

Any authorised Scan dealer will 

be pleased to help you with this. 

Approval 

A wood-burning stove must be 

safe to use, easy to operate and 

gentle on the environment. 

The more standards a stove 

meets, the better it satisfies these 

criterias. This is certainly the case 

with a Scan wood burning stove.

Fresh air/external combustion air 

There are two kinds 

of air supply: 

• Air that enters the room 

from outside 

• External combustion air 

that is led directly into the 

stove’s combustion chamber 

We offer a couple of options that 

let you introduce air from the 

outside directly to the appliance 

to replace the air necessary for 

the combustion (rather than 

opening a window and 

risking cold and draughts) - 

(1) a connection piece for fresh 

air intake mounted at the rear 

of the stove or (2) a box fitted 

underneath the combustion 

chamber. Most Scan models 

can be equipped with this type 

of fresh air supply, even as a 

retrofit device. In well-insulated 

houses it is a good idea to let 

air directly into the combustion 

chamber from outside (external 

combustion air). This is especially 

important in houses with 

mechanical ventilation or a 

cooker hood situated near the 

installation site. It is possible to 

feed external combustion air to 

most Scan stoves by mounting 

an intake duct to the back of the 

stove or putting it in the base. 

Individual models prepared 

and manufactured for external 

combustion air must be ordered 

from the factory, whilst external 

combustion air with a rear outlet 

can be retrofitted to the vast 

majority of Scan wood-burning 

stoves. See also the technical data

A unique feature of the Scan 64 is that it has doors that can be hinged on either 

the right- or the left-hand side. The door also has an “easy-lock system”, which 

means that it will close fully without you having to turn the handle.

The Scan 64 is unmistakably a Danish stove design, with its 

clean-cut lines and beautiful details. This is a medium-sized 

stove with large glass doors, giving the feeling of a real fire 

due to the excellent view of the flames. 

The stove is made from steel, while the door is solid cast iron. 

The extra depth in the burn chamber prevents ash spillage 

when the door is opened.

Scan 58 makes it easy to choose 

This stove concept from one of Denmark’s leading designers 

is ground breaking both in creation and style. The family of 

stoves has an elliptical shape that creates its own special 

expression. The different variants with the large side glasses 

give a unique view to the fire. You can choose between six 

stove bodies (Scan 58-1 to Scan 58-6) and then choose from 

either a pedestal base, see through base (with door option) 

or wall hung bracket. You can also choose a ”heat storing” 

soapstone top or an elegant glass top.

Scan 58-9 and 58-10 give soap stone stoves a new meaning. 

Our designer has managed to dress the slim stove design with 

soap stone without comprising the beautiful proportions. 

These models are identical except for the choice of the handles 

and trim in black and brushed aluminium.

which makes this design truly seamless and extremely elegant.

Save heating costs 

The new Scan 58 High Top Concept consists of four models, 

and is based on the same burn chamber as the renowned the 

Scan 58 Concept. 

With the optional Scan Heat Storage System, the heating capacity 

will be further improved with better heat comfort and more 

efficient heat emission. Scan’s Heat Storage System offers the 

benefit of extra heat lasting up to 12 hours from the last 

loading of wood. 

The material used has an exceptional heat storage capacity, 

and because of its technical design allowing it to release heat 

over an extended period of time. The storage system is compact 

and is positioned inside the top of the stove where it captured the 

heat produced in the burn chamber. 

An air vent at the top of the product is a standard feature on this 

product. Lighting a fire with the vent open will give heat quickly. 

When the vent is closed the heating time can be extended to as 

much as 12 hours.

The best of both worlds 

Steffen Schmelling is one of Denmark’s leading designers and we 

are very pleased to present the first products he has created for 

Scan. The design of Scan 62 and Scan 63 are based on the Shaker 

Design Philosophy which states: “Don’t make something unless it 

is both necessary and useful; but if it is both necessary and useful, 

don’t hesitate to make it beautiful.” The Shakers were a group 

started in Manchester, England in 1700s, and although a lot has 

changed since then we believe their philosophy has inspired 

great stove design for Scan. 

Scan 62 has received a lot of attention because of its unique and 

interesting design. Our designer has dressed this product with 

soap stone in a way that enhances the stove design beautifully. 

The Shaker designed door handle is even more prominent on 

this particular design.

This protects the environment and the built in air wash helps

With its square look in black steel, the Scan 56 is minimalist 

and clean just like its low-emissions, environmentally friendly 

combustion. The large glass surfaces on all three sides do not 

get sooty if the wood is dry and the air is set correctly, 

and gives you a fantastic view of the fire.

does not get hot. A single control operates the stove and

The Scan Andersen 4-5 is one of the best-selling cast iron 

stoves on the market. This wood-burning stove is available in

The Scan Andersen 8-2 is a cast iron stove available in black 

with convection plates or with heat-accumulating soapstone

the environment. The heat is controlled with a single handle.

The Scan Andersen 10 incorporates the latest system in clean combustion 

technology, is gentle on the environment, is economical with fuel and always 

has optimally clear glass.

The Scan Andersen 10 cast iron stove has a large combustion 

chamber with plenty of room for long lengths of firewood. 

This gives a high level of performance, requires less-frequent 

refuelling so giving you more time to enjoy the big fire it 

generates. The positioning of the chrome handle means that it 

doesn’t get hot whilst the stove is lit. A riddling grate and ash 

drawer come as standard. Supplied in black, either as a 

convection stove or with soapstone-covered sides. With a 

soapstone top plate, additional heat is stored then released

The Scan DSA 3-5 and Scan DSA 4-5 have flat glass, whilst the Scan DSA 3-2 

and Scan DSA 4-2 have curved glass. Scan DSA 3-2 and Scan DSA 3-5 are 

equipped with ash drawers and riddling grates, so enabling the burning of 

selected smokeless solid fuels.

Living fire behind the glass 

These convector fireplace inserts are available in black or grey 

with trims in standard sizes of 50 mm or made to measure. 

Allthe models have a user friendly chrome handle. Plus, the 

unique Scan combustion system provides for optimal, clean 

combustion and efficient air wash so the glass is always as 

clean as possible. 

Both models are equally well suited for use in new builds or in 

the renovation of existing open fireplaces. A fresh air intake kit 

is available as an optional extra. UK building regulations specify 

permanently open air supply. The attachment for the Scan DSA 3

The Scan DSA 6 is a space-saving, designer model with a black 

“portrait” border on the heat resistant glass door enhancing 

the flame view . Ideally suited for both newly built homes and 

retrofitted into an existing fireplace. The unique Scan 

combustion system is easy to operate. You turn the heat up 

and down with a single handle. The air wash system keeps the 

glass optimally clean. The chrome plated decorative moulding 

at the base of the door extends the length of the handle, which

The Scan DSA 7-5 is available in black to be built into existing 

houses or into new builds. The trims are available in black and 

can be made to measure if necessary. A black four sided 50mm 

frame is supplied as standard, other sizes may be supplied 

upon request. The efficient Scan combustion system is easy to 

operate, ensuring optimally clean glass and environmentally 

friendly neutral combustion. The steel handle is extended by 

the decorative moulding, which gives the insert an exclusive 

look. The Scan DSA 7-5, with its large combustion chamber, 

can take extra large logs. A fresh air intake kit is available as 

an optional extra (note. not directly connected to outside air). 

UK building regulations specifies permanently open air supply.

Scan DSA 12 is a fantastic built-in and perfect in every detail. 

There are no baffle plates to obscure your vision through 

the stove, yet the combustion is optimal. This is possible 

because of an innovative combustion technology developed 

especially for this product, which also has closed combustion 

as standard. 

Scan DSA 12 can be operated from both sides however the 

door on either side can be secured if you wish. This beautiful

Efficiency 

You will appreciate the warmth from your Scan stove; the latest in 

heating technology is incorporated into your Scan to ensure its clean burning, 

environmentally sound performance. The very latest Scan production 

technology ensures that the heat output from the wood is maximised to 

generate more heat into your room. It is important to choose a Scan that is the 

right size for your room. In the region of 90 % of the heat from an open fire goes up 

the chimney. When run at its optimum temperature, your Scan stove or 

fireplace will give out up to 80% more heat into your room. 

Quality 

Highly sophisticated research and development, strict quality control 

systems that conform to ‘EN 13240’ and the very latest production 

technology combine to produce the ultimate in both looks and performance. 

What size stove or fireplace do I need? 

To determine the size of stove or fireplace you will require, the standard home needs 

1 kW of heat per 14 cubic metres of space. To work out your requirements, multiply 

your room width and length measured in metres, by your room height in metres (i.e. 

5 m x 7 m =35 x 2.5 m = 87.5). This means that your room, with a normal sized window 

and number of doors, has a volume of 87.5 cubic metres and will need approximately 

a (87.5÷14) 6 kW Scan stove or fireplace.
