systems (<strong>LMS</strong>) therefore play an important role in the holistic approach to planning high-quality lighting<br />

Lighting management systems detect and control different lighting levels and color mixes, so they give<br />

lighting a dynamic dimension. Automatic changes to the amount, color and direction of the light means<br />

DALI<br />

Packed with functions but easy to use. The DALI interface standard.<br />

If the lighting control system, sensors, controllers, electronic control gear and lamps are to work together<br />

at peak performance they must be able to communicate with one another without restriction and react<br />

accordingly. A common interface for all the components within a system is therefore of enormous importance.<br />

What is DALI – and how does it work?<br />

DALI – Digital Addressable Lighting Interface – is a non-proprietary interface standard for dimmable electronic<br />

control gear, offering greater functionality and greater ease of use. A maximum of 64 DALI <strong>ECG</strong>s can be<br />

controlled with a high degree of fl exibility via a 2-wire control line individually, jointly or in as many as<br />

16 groups. The lighting is switched and dimmed via the control line. In other words, there is no need for any<br />

relays.<br />

Important information such the lamp status is stored in the control gear and is available to the controller.<br />

DALI is an interface for all light sources in professional lighting solutions. <strong>OSRAM</strong> offers a wide range of<br />

DALI devices for fl uorescent lamps, compact fl uorescent lamps, tungsten-halogen lamps, Metal halide lamps<br />

and LEDs.<br />

Simplified lighting planning with DALI at a glance<br />

• Simple planning<br />

A single 2-wire control line for up to 64 devices means that the lighting groups do not have to be assigned<br />

at the planning stage. Instead, they can be simply set up later with the aid of a controller. Planning of the<br />

control line can be separate from planning of the power supply.<br />

• Simple installation<br />

The control line is protected against polarity reversal and can be routed together with the power supply for<br />

example in a 5-core sheathed cable. The control line simply has to be rated for line voltage. There is no<br />

need for special cable.<br />

No relays are needed for switching the luminaires. Switching and dimming are handled exclusively via the<br />

With DALI the lighting groups are not hard-wired. The individual luminaires are grouped by simply<br />

assigning them to groups with the aid of a controller. These groupings can be changed at any time.<br />

• Synchronized changes from one lighting scene to another<br />

Even if different luminaires are started at different dimmer values or different types of lamp are combined<br />

with one another, DALI changes from one lighting scene to another in synchronism. All the light sources<br />

reach the new light value at the same time.<br />

• Lamp status on request<br />

As a means of detecting failed lamps, the lamp status can be reported by a DALI device to the controller<br />

and then displayed by the controller. This feature is of particularly benefi t for major projects in which DALI<br />

an be very easily integrated into existing bus systems via gateways.<br />

Energy<br />

Good for our climate and good for your business thanks to daylight-dependent and presencedependent<br />

lighting<br />

Ever rising energy costs and increasing focus on climate protection are pushing the need for energy savings<br />

more and more to the forefront. In applications with high energy consumption energy-effi cient lighting<br />

solutions are playing an increasingly important role.<br />

Only as much light as necessary<br />

Daylight-dependent and presence-dependent lighting control offer great potential for energy savings. The<br />

available daylight in a room is supplemented as required by artifi cial light from luminaires equipped with<br />

dimmable electronic control gear.<br />

Light sensors detect the lighting level comprising artifi cial light and natural daylight. The groups of luminaires<br />

are controlled according to their position in the room and the amount of available daylight so that a predefi ned<br />

lighting level of, say, 500 lux is maintained. Users can adjust the lighting at any time to a level that meets their<br />

specifi c needs. Artifi cial light and daylight complement one another perfectly in this application.<br />

If a presence sensor is also used the lighting is automatically switched on only if there is someone in the<br />

room. This signifi cantly increases the potential energy savings still further.<br />

Sensors<br />

Modern, easy-install sensors for a wide variety of applications<br />

Sensors provide the basis for energy-saving daylight-dependent and motion/presence-dependent lighting.<br />

With the aid of light sensors the available daylight is measured and if necessary supplemented with artifi cial<br />

light. The lighting system is switched on by a motion/presence sensor only if at least one person is present in<br />

the room. Using sensors can therefore achieve energy savings of as much as 70 %*.<br />

Touch DIM ® system<br />

Touch DIM ® – Lighting control without a controller and dimming without a control line<br />

The Touch DIM ® function in the DALI <strong>ECG</strong> family makes it possible to dim and switch the control gear<br />

directly with line voltage at the DALI control terminals. There is no longer any need for a separate controller<br />

as the <strong>ECG</strong> itself acts as the controller. By using DALI to 1…10 V converters it is possible also to control<br />

1…10 V <strong>ECG</strong>s via Touch DIM ® . The Touch DIM ® function is characterized in particular by protective soft<br />

starting, precise setting of the required light value, manual storage of the switch-on value by double-clicking<br />

or switching on at the last dimmer value and automatic restoration of the last state after a power failure.<br />

In conjunction with Touch DIM ® sensors it is possible to provide daylight-dependent and presence-dependent<br />

lighting control, and with the 2-channel radio switch + associated radio receiver module all Touch DIM ®<br />

compatible electronic control gear can be controlled. Both radio components are absolutely maintenancefree.<br />

Up to 30 radio switches can be easily “trained and retrained” in each receiver module at the push of a<br />

button. Thanks to innovative piezo technology, batteries are not needed to power the transmitter module in<br />

the radio switch.<br />

MULTIeco system<br />

MULTIeco – Lighting control with minimal standby power<br />

The MULTIeco light management system provides daylight-dependent and presence-dependent lighting<br />

control and is offered with three controller versions: with digital DALI interface, with analog 1…10 V interface<br />

and as a simple switching actuator. If there is enough available daylight or if there are no persons in the room<br />

the controller not only switches the luminaires off but also disconnected the <strong>ECG</strong>s from the power supply so<br />

that the standby power consumption of the entire installation is reduced to less than 0.5 W. In this way,<br />

energy savings of up to 75 %* can be achieved.<br />

All MULTIeco controllers are compatible with existing MULTI 3 sensors. Thanks to their extremely compact<br />

casing dimensions the controllers can be installed in small spaces within the luminaire or can be installed<br />

separately with the ECO CI KIT.<br />

MULTI 3 system<br />

MULTI 3 – lighting control for individual and open-plan offices<br />

The modular MULTI 3 light management system enables lighting systems in rooms to be controlled on the<br />

basis of available daylight and presence. The system consists of a controller with a digital DALI or analog<br />

1–10 V interface and various light and presence sensors. The sensors measure the brightness in the room<br />

and detect the presence of persons. The required lighting conditions are defi ned by an adjustable setpoint<br />

value. This means that only as much artifi cial light as necessary is added to the available daylight. If there is<br />

enough natural daylight or if there are no persons in the room, the lighting control unit switches the luminaire<br />

off. Energy savings of up to 70 %* can be made compared with conventional workplace lighting.<br />

Light to suit your mood<br />

Dynamic light grabs our attention and arouses our interest - with atmospheric color changes and daylight<br />

simulation with white light. Whether it’s for a bar or a shop window display or an event, the intensity and the<br />

color of the light can be changed automatically or at the touch of a button to create the right effects for the<br />

particular application.<br />

Light can animate, relax, motivate, stimulate, wake us up or make us tired. Depending on the color, intensity<br />

and mix, different effects and moods can be created with colored light and even with different white tones.<br />

With fl uorescent lamps and LED modules dynamic colored lighting can be produced, easily integrated and<br />

easily controlled – even dynamic white light, for example for simulating daylight in windowless rooms.<br />

Even if a room does have windows the amount of daylight entering the room is often not enough for<br />

concentrated ergonomic work. For most of the working day that light has to be supplemented by artifi cial<br />

lighting. The ideal lighting should therefore adapt to the changes in daylight throughout the day in terms<br />

of intensity, color temperature and dynamics without having to be controlled manually.<br />

EASY Color Control system<br />

EASY Color Control – Lighting control for static and dynamic lighting<br />

The EASY Color Control light management system enables both static and dynamic lighting concepts to be implemented. A single<br />

control unit can control four output channels separately. An integrated sequencer with four individual sequences is also<br />

available, as are 16 freely defi nable static lighting scenes. The system can be easily extended with up to 16 control units/64<br />

channels with the aid of plug system protected against polarity reversal. With the aid of the system coupler up to 4 EASY systems<br />

can be combined, expanding the system to as many as 64 controllers. IR or radio receivers for installation in luminaires or<br />

ceilings enable all the important functions to be accessed via remote control. Simple jogwheel control can be achieved with the<br />

EASY Color Drive wall control element and the EASY Hybrid Remote, and pushbuttons, switches and motion sensors can also<br />

be connected. A switch coupler installed behind the control element in the fl ush-mounted box enables pushbuttons, switches or<br />

motion sensors to be connected. If different control functions are available, for example for diffeent room usages, the new EASY<br />

Touch Panel provides individual solutions.<br />

Simple startup and freedom to label all the elements in any language makes it a multitalented system with a high degree of fl exibility.<br />

If the control units are connected to a USB port on a PC via an adapter cable, scenes and sequences can be easily created via<br />

a graphical software interface. Colors can be selected, copied and adjusted at the click of a mouse. The preview function provides<br />

an initial offl ine impression of the lighting sequence. All the settings are then automatically taken from the control units.<br />

Scenes<br />

Multifunctional and flexible for scene-based lighting<br />

Rooms that are used by different people for different purposes need more than just demand-based lighting –<br />

they need scene-oriented lighting.<br />

In a conference room, for example, individual lighting scenes can be selected at the touch of a button for<br />

different activities, such as the welcoming address, a presentation and a group discussion. The lighting<br />

scenes can be adapted and changed at any time by the user. This gives the system enormous fl exibility.<br />

For rooms that are generally used by different people at different times, such as training rooms, it is also very<br />

important for the system to be easy and intuitive to use.<br />

And at indoor events, different lighting scenes can be created to produce a festive, sporting or relaxing<br />

atmosphere. Certain areas can be individually lit by separate groups of luminaires as required.<br />

MCU<br />

MCU rotary dimmer – simple digital or analog lighting control<br />

The DALI MCU digital rotary dimmer distinguishes between three different rotary speeds and has tactile<br />

detents so brightness can be fi ne-tuned in individual steps as required. Installed in a fl ush-mounted box and<br />

connected to the ac power supply, a DALI MCU can control 25 luminaires in this way with the integrated<br />

DALI supply. Parallel connection enables the number of luminaires per group to be increased to 100 and up<br />

to four control points can be provided. DALI MCUs connected to one another synchronize automatically with<br />

each other; in other words, the control point can be changed at any time without the risk of annoying side<br />

effects such as sudden changes in brightness.<br />

Thanks to its integrated relay contact the analog DIM MCU rotary dimmer enables up to ten single-lamp<br />

1…10 V <strong>ECG</strong>s or fi ve 2-lamp 1…10 V <strong>ECG</strong>s to be controlled directly from a control point. If an external power<br />

relay is used up to 100 1…10 V <strong>ECG</strong>s can be controlled.<br />

The neutral white cover can be removed from the DALI MCU and from the DIM MCU and replaced with<br />

commercially available covers (such as ones from the Siemens Delta range).<br />

BASIC System<br />

DALI BASIC – Lighting control for individual rooms<br />

DALI BASIC light management system enables scene-based or energy-saving daylight-dependent and<br />

presence-dependent lighting to be easily achieved. The DALI RC BASIC SO controller can control up to<br />

64 DALI <strong>ECG</strong>s and up to 6 sensors. With the aid of DALI to 1…10 V converters it is also possible to<br />

integrate 1…10 V <strong>ECG</strong>s. Up to 4 lighting scenes can be stored and retrieved and 4 freely defi nable groups<br />

can be controlled. Group assignment is variable with DALI and can be changed at any time without changing<br />

the wiring. With the aid of light sensors the available daylight can be used, and the use of presence sensors<br />

means the light is switched off if there is no one in the room.<br />

A standard 5-way switch with make contacts is used for programming and control. Multiple control points<br />

can be set up by connecting the switches in parallel.<br />

DALI PROFESSIONAL – Control for medium and large applications<br />

The DALI PROFESSIONAL System with its 4 interactive DALI lines (256 DALI <strong>ECG</strong>s) is suitable for<br />

complex applications in room and fl oor control, daylight-dependent regulation, RGB control & dynamic<br />

lighting control.<br />

Confi guration and startup are particularly easy with the aid of Windows based PC software and a USB port.<br />

A Plug&Play setting is preconfi gured for instant use without any startup procedure.<br />

Control is via standard switches connected to a DALI PROFESSIONAL pushbutton coupler. With the<br />

Expand, connect and install with non-system-specific components<br />

Everything from a single source – Lighting control and accessories for simple expansion, connection and<br />

installation of innovative light management systems from <strong>OSRAM</strong>. This includes:<br />

• Signal amplifi ers<br />

Signal amplifi ers operate in conjunction with controllers, enabling a larger number<br />

of <strong>ECG</strong>s to be connected to the controller.<br />

• DALI converters<br />

DALI converters are multifunctional units. On the one hand they are converters that are accessed digitally via<br />

the DALI interface in the same way as a DALI <strong>ECG</strong>. On the other hand they also act as independent lighting<br />

controllers.<br />

• DALI repeaters<br />

DALI repeaters provide a fl exible means of expanding DALI systems. Addressability means that the repeaters<br />

can be individually controlled and confi gured within an installation. The <strong>ECG</strong>s connected to the repeater<br />

operate automatically as a group with a uniform dimmer setting.<br />

In Touch DIM mode the repeater operates as an independent lighting controller for manual control of any DALI<br />

<strong>ECG</strong>s via standard switches.<br />

• Y-connectors<br />

The Y-connectors are used for connecting multiple sensors to a MULTI 3 system or MULTIeco system or for<br />

connecting multiple MULTI3 or MULTIeco systems for central motion detection.<br />

Y-connectors are also used for connecting the individual components within an EASY Color Control system.<br />

• Installation kits<br />

The installation kits enable controllers or sensors to be installed separately.<br />
