Royal Navy Cooks<br />
Wednesday 30 th January <strong>2013</strong><br />
Chefs from The Royal Navy spent a day’s visit to<br />
<strong>Whitley</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> to teach GCSE Catering students<br />
how to create a main meal for fellow Navy officers.<br />
Students made a chicken curry dish with pasta. They<br />
were also taught about the benefits of healthy eating<br />
required for the officers due to the physical work they<br />
conduct.<br />
Students all had a very enjoyable day working under<br />
the pressures of a real chef.<br />
All students were also introduced to a secret ingredient<br />
required in a curry dish…. which was a coconut<br />
chocolate bar. Due to shelf life and accessibility of<br />
ingredients when chefs are working on the submarines<br />
they need to have long life products. The coconut<br />
chocolate bar added a sweet but creamy flavour to the<br />
curry pasta.<br />
