Our readers also criticised the instrument layout in our Which? Car survey. This is not intuitive - for example, when you pull the windscreen wiper lever toward you expecting the front screenwash to spray, it actually starts the rear wipers. The front seat belts in the three-door version are also difficult to reach. Visibility and parking Visibility is a major issue for motorists today, so each car gets a 360-degree swivel view test to reproduce the driver’s eye view and any obscured areas.

The boot is about average for a supermini. Five-door models make most sense for families. Getting in and out ★★★ The Fiesta is spacious enough to carry two adults in the back, but getting in and out of threedoor models with dignity is a tall order - the front seat backs don’t stay in position when they’re folded forward, so don’t offer any grip or support when you’re trying to get out. Opt for the five-door version if you ferry around rear-seat passengers. The front seats are well padded and comfy but the driver’s seat tilt can’t be adjusted sufficiently to make sure you’ll be comfortable. We’ve got a similar complaint about the back seats - adults travelling in the rear are going to have to sit in an uncomfortable crouching position because the seat base isn’t angled far enough backwards.
