Three Faiths Forum…
Five of our Upper IV girls have been involved in a school linking programme with
Dar al-Huda school for girls. Last Tuesday we celebrated the end of our year link
with a picnic here at St. Augustine’s. The girls brought food to share. We were all
particularly impressed with the apple tart, courtesy of Jemima Gray and her
father. This link has provided our girls and the girls from Dar al-Huda the
opportunity to meet people from other faiths and cultures. Whilst acknowledging
our differences we have been celebrating our similarities.
Songs and Certificates…
Songs and Certificates had a rich variety of music this year, from the Preps
right through to Lower IV. The girls received their many certificates for hard
work and endeavour all through the academic year and there were musical
highlights spread throughout - sporty songs from the Preps, the Beatles from
Lower I, and Madness songs from Upper I. Lower II had songs with a patriotic
theme for the Jubilee, and Form III and Lower IV sang the Titanic theme song
for the 100th anniversary of the sinking, and a Coldplay choral arrangement.
Well done to all the girls for their industry and hard work rehearsing!
Mr Brooke…We say goodbye this term to Mr Brooke, our very popular saxophone and clarinet teacher, who has been with us for ten
years. Mr Brooke is an Army musician and often had funny anecdotes to tell about musical life in the military. He will be very much missed in
the Music Department. The girls will miss his wonderful ties as well as his fun teaching. We wish him well!
Farewell…
We also say farewell to: Mrs Maw, Head of Art; to Mrs Lyons, Art Teacher; to Mr Hullis from the Classics Department, Mr Gaffney, Head of
Chemistry; Mrs Mortimer, Deputy Junior Department Magistra. We thank them for their combined over 50 years’ service to the school. We are
sad to see them leave, but wish them all every success and happiness in their future careers, or in whatever life may hold for them.
Welcome on board to…
We are pleased to announce two entirely new posts in the Junior Department. Mrs Costello has been appointed to the role of Coordinator of
Key Stage One, and Miss Gambrill Coordinator of Key Stage Two. We know they will make a real difference to teaching and learning in the
Junior Department
Patrick Martin…
I will be joining the school later this month as the ICT Services Manager and would like to introduce myself to staff and
students ahead of meeting you all in September.
I have been involved in IT support for the past fifteen years and gained a range of skills working in various companies within
industry from software development to online publishing. Most recently I have been managing the ICT services at a large
secondary school in west London and have enjoyed working in an educational environment.
I have been fortunate to work with a range of the latest technologies and have seen the positive effect these have had on
teaching and learning. In the past few months for example I have completed the implementation of a wireless network within a studio school
to support the use of Apple iPads, iMac desktops and Apple TV.
The opportunity to bring my experience to this new position at St Augustine’s is very exciting. I look forward to meeting many of you and
getting your feedback on the current ICT setup prior to planning ahead for improvements. It will take time to build up the IT infrastructure to
support the level of change that is planned for the school but once this is in place I aim to work towards delivering exceptional ICT services in
the years to come.
