Billy Liar…
On Wednesday
17 th October,
Upper V's GCSE
Drama class put
on a performance
of the 1950s
comedy 'Billy
Liar'. The scenes
we performed
revolved around
the irresponsible
main character,
Billy Fisher (played in different scenes by Alisha Bajaj, Rachel McGee and
Kasia Krynska) who finds himself in the impossible situation of being
engaged to two different women: Barbara (Maryam Reis Dehabadi & Lily Masoud) and
Rita (Nadia Abeid) at
the same time! The rest
of the cast included
Hidaya Siddiqui as
Geoffrey, Alice Lyons as
Florence, Abbeynaya
Lawrence as Liz and
Sara Gulamali as Alice.
The performance was a
great success and was
enjoyable for both cast
and audience! Thank
you especially to parents and staff who attended, and
of course to Ms Hagerty who organised the whole
event and gave us the confidence to perform at our
best.
Ten Lower IIs write a song!!
On Tuesday 16 th October ten of the Lower IIs had a brilliant day
writing a song about walking to school with the help of Jess and
Haruna from Project Earth Rock. The reason why they came was
because we want to try more eco-friendly ways of getting to
school. The chorus of our song was ‘Wanna be fit, wanna be
strong, walk every day, you can’t go wrong’. It was a fun and
exciting way to learn about sustainable transport. In the afternoon
we performed it to the Juniors then the Preps. The audience
learned about fossil fuels and that eco-friendly travel is also a great
way to save the environment from pollution. Some students were
inspired and say they want to walk to school more often!
Independent Schools Careers Organisation…
On Monday 8 th and Tuesday 9 th October Upper V attended their Independent Schools Career Organisation (ISCO)
interviews with trained careers advisers. ISCO is an organisation that provides career advice and guidance for
students in school and up to the age of 23. The interview was very helpful in guiding us to suitable A level choices
and possible career ideas.
We discussed the personal profiles that have been created through the psychometric tests we took previously. This
was designed to highlight our strengths and aptitudes and gave us an idea as to what professions we might be best
suited. The process so far has been very interesting with more than a few surprising results as some girls showed
strengths they may not have expected. We will discover more about potential career options as we continue through
the process. Online readers click here: http://www.isco.org.uk/
Old Tools Wanted…
The Parents' Committee has recently started an allotment in the grounds, but we need help to keep it going. We are
looking for donations of tools, especially large spades and forks, also any spare vegetable plants at any time of year.
If anyone is interested in being involved please let us know.
We also are fortunate to have some fantastic apple and pear trees in the Orchard. Their
fruit is completely organic and we usually sell it in the playground during the Michaelmas
term, along with homemade crumbles and jam. The timing varies due to the weather so
please support us when you see us!.
For more info please contact Jacqui Szlachetko or Dymphna Kerr via the school office.
Ealing Borough Cross Country – Round 1…
Last Thursday, 33 Lower II and Upper II girls combined with 18 Form III, Lower
VI and Upper VI girls participated in the first series of the Ealing Borough Cross
Country Championships. Girls were outstanding in their efforts and
commitment and there were some tremendous individual performances. A
noteworthy performance was Anna Szyszko (Upper IV Alpha) who finished with
a bronze medal and has been put forward for the London Youth Games. I hope
that in the next round, on Wednesday 17 th October, girls can enhance their
performances and potentially more girls could be selected.
Did St Augustine’s beat the world marathon time of 2 hours 3 minutes???
On Tuesday 16 th October A team of 39 girls from Form III, Lower IV and Upper IV challenged this record by running
211 laps of the 200m school track in a global campaign to fight hunger on World Food Day. The girls were fantastic
in their efforts and enthusiasm, fuelled by snacks, great weather and music to complete the 26.2 miles in 2 hours
and 34 minutes. This was just 31 minutes off the world record but a fantastic result as they are currently in FIRST
POSITION GLOBALLY with this time for an all girls team. A fantastic result! Well done!

Maximising learning for girls and parents…
This week, the girls and parents of Upper IV and Lower V have taken part in Study Skills sessions run by a company
called Maximise. The girls spent a morning learning fascinating facts about how their brains and sleep patterns work,
as well as gaining useful practical tips on studying more effectively. Their parents came in for their learning session
on Thursday evening and came away feeling informed and reassured by the techniques discussed. The feedback
from the girls was fantastic: "After today, the changes that I will try to apply to my lifestyle are to get more sleep and
use repetition to improve my terrible memory!" (Veronica Armanuos, Upper IV Alpha).
Quiz Night for HCPT – the Pilgrimage Trust, Group 142…
Our children's Easter pilgrimage to Lourdes is an action packed week filled with fun and laughter - and can also
provide a well earned week of respite for carers back home! We take children with disabilities, social or emotional
needs supported by volunteer helpers, who provide one-to-one care and friendship throughout the week in Lourdes.
Children travel in family groups. We, as volunteers, actively raise the money through the year to cover all the costs of
taking the children to Lourdes - £740 per child. This means we can offer the children a free week's holiday, with full
care, at no cost. So, we would like to invite you to the Quiz Night in support of HCPT. This is taking place on:
Saturday 24 th November at 7.00 p.m. at St Benedict's School Hall, 54 Eaton Rise, Ealing, W5 2ES.
Tickets are £10 each - please email hcpt142@hotmail.co.uk to secure your place for a great evening.
If you cannot make the event but would like to donate to this wonderful cause, please go to
www.justgiving.com/hcptgroup142-2013. Thank you - and I hope to see you on 24 th November!
Have your say…
As you will be aware from recent information evenings and Parentmail the school has
commissioned an independent, objective survey of your views. It is important to the Governors, Mrs Raffray and
staff that we are fully aware of parents’ opinions when we make decisions about the future development of St.
Augustine’s Priory. The survey is currently being conducted by RSAcademics, a respected consultancy within the
independent schools sector, to help us find out more about how you feel about the school. They have designed an
online survey, details of which have been forwarded to you in recent Parentmail communications. A further and
final reminder will be sent this afternoon as the survey must be completed before the deadline of midnight on
Monday 22 nd October. We would very much hope that you will take this opportunity to have your say and help us to
plan effectively for the future. Online readers can find out more here: http://www.rsacademics.co.uk
Junior Book Club…
This term's Junior Book Club started
with a bang as 3 intrepid teams from
Lower II and Upper II met to discuss
their favourite books and then shared
their opinions on a historical novel,
"The Twelve Tasks of Flavia Gemina" by
Caroline Lawrence.
Almost like a grown up Book Club,
jammy dodgers, custard creams and
iced fancies disappeared rapidly as the
girls ageed and agreed to disagree on
favourite characters and whether or
not the beginning and ending of the
book were satisfying. Particularly
impressive were the clear, precisely
articulated views of Emily, Sofia and
Naomi.
Three teams tackled the Quiz which was hotly contested. The eventual winners, even with a starting time handicap
due to old age were Mariella, Anusha and Joanna with an impressive score of 27 out of a possible 30 points.
We all look forward to the November Book Club where the focus is a classic, "Anne of Green Gables" by L.M.
Montgomery.

Prep III's trip to Amersham Field Centre…
(Thursday 11 th October)
Yesterday we went on a coach to get to the place.
When we got there we met a lady called Jenny. First
we ate a fruit break and then we drew on plastic
maps. Then we went into the forest. We had to look
for five things. Barnaby Bear told us about his
favourite place. After lunch we built houses out of
sticks for Barnaby Bear. My favourite part was
making shelters.
