Real-Time Supportability System (RTSS)
Real-Time
Supportability
System (RTSS)
The Department of Defense faces
diminishing manufacturing
sources, out-of-production parts
for aging platforms, and advancing
technology: How does it stay mission-capable
into the future?
Planners must anticipate upgrades.
As a result, the DoD now
requires contractors to establish
Design-to-Disposal maintenance
support programs for new
weapons systems.
Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology
Laboratories (ATL) developed and
transitioned its Real-Time Supportability
System (RTSS) to Lockheed Martin
Maritime Systems and Sensors, Eagan
(MS2).
RTSS provides realistic and comprehensive
information-management technology
for all stakeholders, lets them manage
daily support activities, and anticipates
upgrade programs as a comprehensive,
integrated process.
As part of RTSS, ATL developed the
Product Manager Frame (PMF)—a management
tool that provides multiple views
of a product structure, including design,
function, and cost. Using Smart Product
Model technology, the PMF ensures less
duplication and rework, more affordable
designs, configuration management, and a
collaborative, distributed engineering
environment.
A second feature is the Attribute
Wizard, which provides the capability to
automatically generate custom attributes
or descriptions of data sets, such as parts
lists, engineering drawings, and specification
databases. These and other relevant
data sets, including those from legacy
databases, can be automatically integrated
into the RTSS structure and be ready to
use in days.
Other Transition Successes
• Life-Cycle Maintenance. RTSS is a
core component of MS2’s business
strategy for life-cycle maintenance and
is being rolled out to support several
programs, both domestic and international.
• Computing Display. RTSS is being
evaluated for the AN/UYQ-70 computing,
display, and networking equipment
for U.S. Navy applications. RTSS will
help the program identify, monitor, and
accelerate introduction of leading-edge
technologies into the Fleet to meet program
requirements.
