The Toronto International Art Fair is pleased to present its eighth annual lineup of stellar national and
international galleries in conjunction with a dynamic program of special projects and educational
initiatives at ART TORONTO 2007. This year’s participant list includes a record 100 galleries from 10
countries each exhibiting an outstanding collection of artworks by some of the world finest artists.
Our newest project “Open Spaces” features nine innovative project installations and multimedia
works by single artists in an unprecedented 10,000 square feet of dedicated space. Contemporary art
continues to take the limelight in the ever popular programs News at Five, T at Three and the special
section Fresh Avant-Garde, where emerging trends, young artists and current issues are presented.
Complementing the dialogue is the popular lecture series “Power Talks”. Organized by Gregory Burke
and his team at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery this series offers an exciting line-up of
lectures and discussion panels by an influential group of international critics and curators.
The growth and strength of the Fair resides in the continuous synergy of its various contributors and
supporters. To each and every one I extend a warm welcome and a sincere expression of thanks. In
particular I would like to acknowledge the loyalty of the Fair’s founding dealers and strategic partners
who over the last eight years have invested in this long-term vision – we all owe them our gratitude.
They are the cornerstones of cultural growth and the engines of opportunity for all audiences. Thank
you.
For the last eight years the Fair has partnered with the Art Gallery of Ontario to host our most
important event: the Opening Night Preview. Orchestrated by a committee of hard working volunteers
we applaud and thank this year’s team and event chair, Tamara Bahry-Paterson, for their support and
enthusiasm. In addition I am pleased to announce that this year the AGO has committed a $50,000
acquisition fund to purchase works by both emerging and established artists from participating
galleries during the show. Sincere thanks to Matthew Teitelbaum and to everyone else at the AGO
who helped make this partnership a resounding success.
We are especially grateful to our two presenting sponsors Cadillac and RBS Wealth Management for
their interest and contributions that benefit not only TIAF, but also the whole visual art community.
In house I would like to acknowledge the return of Victoria Miachika to our team after a year
sabbatical abroad and welcome our newest hardworking staff member Sarah Close. Personal heartfelt
thanks to them for their hard work and dedication.
Special thanks and warmest appreciation to Bob Mitchell and to all those behind the scenes who work
tirelessly in ensuring the Fair is a continued success.
To our visitors… Welcome! You are an active participant in this five-day visual feast and we thank you
for your support and interest in the visual arts.
