This is entirely a student driven activity and is not related to the admission process in any way.

Welcome...
Congratulations!!!! You have made it!!!
Given that all of you are going to experience academic rigor of the highest quality
in the coming academic year, we thought it would be helpful for some of you to
have a glimpse of what is to follow.
At IIM Shillong, you will interact with students from diverse backgrounds, arguably
the best amongst the country. These students are handpicked from a student
pool consisting of candidates having outstanding academic records and excellent
professional experiences. Thereby, you would be competing with the best amongst
the best.
Further, you would be introduced to diverse topics from several subjects of management
studies: probability and statistics, accounting, economics and managerial
communication. The general trend suggests that some of the students, who have
not studied these topics earlier, find it difficult to grasp the concepts quickly. For
instance, a student from engineering background generally takes much more time
and efforts to master the basic accounting concepts of credit and debit. Similarly,
students from non-engineering background tend to have a tough time coping with
probability and statistics and are generally advised to brush up a bit of probability
fundamentals before landing here.
Do remember, these are opinions and the level of pre-preparations desired would
depend solely on personal capabilities and skills. But one advice that everyone in
the batch would consensually agree to give is to thoroughly enjoy your remaining
time with friends and family. So, even if you decide to glance over some concepts,
do remember to chill out and have a good time. We have no intentions to spoil
your party mood.
We hope you would have a wonderful time ahead.
Regards
PGP Class of 2011

Indian Institute of Management, Shillong was setup by the Government of India in the state of Meghalaya. It is
the seventh and the youngest in the line of Indian Institutes of Management known for their excellence in business
management education.
The Institute currently offers a two-year Post Graduate Program in Management (PGP) and in the future will offer
other courses like the Fellow Program in Management (FPM). In addition, the Institute offers Management
Development Programs (MDPs); Research and Consultancy; along with some short term certificate courses under
Accelerated Learning Center (ALC).
It has been two years now, since the Indian Institute of Management - Shillong ignited the second phase of the IIM
revolution in the country. This is the seventh IIM setup in collaboration with the government of Meghalaya. Inaugurated
on July 4 2008, it strives to achieve excellence in the field of managerial education, training and research.

Beginning with the meticulous short-listing of candidates for the PGP based on their academic performance and
work experience, till the finalizing of electives for the students to specialize in, there is just one word to describe
the methodology here- rigour. The strong student force, an army of corporate generals, has been trained under
‘eight day’ weeks, in cutting edge finance and economics, as well as on sustainability and governance.
The Institute has had the advantage of being introspective, right at the outset. Keeping the big picture in mind,
and yet getting hands on with details, has, hence, become a matter of habit for the participants. Setting out with
a holistic approach to matters, the goals have been clearly set for the long term sustainability.
The meticulously framed curriculum is aimed to act as a launching pad for the participants into the corporate
arena. It comprises of a rich blend of compulsory courses and electives, supplemented by specialized courses
on industry sectors.

Campus
The serene ambience of IIM Shillong surrounded
by pine trees, lush green lawn and the kaleidioscopic
mountains in the backdrop creates an aura
of stunned silence amidst nature. Located within
the heart of Shillong city, the IIMS campus showcases
a tranquil environment where the students
can concentrate on their academic endeavours.
The Institute is currently functioning from a temporary campus in the Mayurbhanj Complex (the erstwhile
summer palace of Mayurbhanj Kings). The Campus includes a main building wherein the administrative office,
faculty offices, classrooms, library and conference halls are housed. Apart from the main building, the Institute
also has an auditorium, guesthouse, number of small syndicate rooms (separate) and student dormitories
within the campus. Faculty residences are situated just adjacent to the campus.
Work is underway on the 120-acre land allotted by the Government, for construction of a state-of-the-art
academic cum residential campus. Academic block will comprise of faculty rooms, lecture theatres, cafeteria,
conference halls, video conferencing studio and library. The residential area will include halls of residence, auditorium,
swimming pool and sports complex cum gymnasium, market complex, golf course & joggers’ paths.
Building plan will meet best practice standards in ecologically sustainable design, which will ensure efficient
use of energy, water and other natural resources.
Information Technology Infrastructure
The Institute has augmented the initiative for an IT infrastructure to facilitate all its present and upcoming activities.
Both wired and wireless network serve as the backbone for the tech savvy faculty and students to assist
in their regular work requirements.
Institute also makes use of the ‘Vennfer’, a complete IP based video conferencing software solution that enables
real time audio, video, and data communication over LAN, WAN broadcast by using TCP/IP multicasting
technology. IIM Shillong is the first among India’s centrally funded technical institutions and universities to have
completed the implementation of a comprehensive enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for the management
of campus wide activities.

Student
Living...
The PGP programme is a
full-time residential programme.
Accommodation facilities with both
single and double occupancy rooms
are available within the campus, with
separate blocks for boys and girls.
The hostel block has a common room
with facilities such as television, tabletennis,
carrom, chess.
The Institute also has a well equipped
gymnasium. Apart from these, facilities
are available for other sports such as badminton,
volleyball, basketball and cricket.

Faculty
The IIMS faculty is a hallmark of knowledge, experience and
interactive skills. In Prof. Ashoke K Dutta we have an Ideal
Director, who has previously served as the head of the institution
at ISWSBM and IIT KGP VJSOM. The faculty of our institute
are always ready to take that extra step which separates
excellence from mere adequacy. The faculty are drawn from
among the best minds in the country, especially in the fields
of Strategy, Finance, HR, Economics, Marketing and Operations,
besides bringing to the table a wealth of industry experience.
There is an ideal blend of experienced and fresh faculty
which helps the institute maintain a high degree of intellectual
expertise. The student-faculty ratio is extremely healthy;
less than 7:1.
