THE CBI ACADEMY
The CBI felt the need of an Academy of its
own right from the day one after its
inception, but for some reason or other, it had
to wait for over 30 years to have one. During
these three decades, it got its personnel
trained at various Police Training Schools
th
and Academies. On 10 January, 1996,
fortunately, its wish was fulfilled. The CBI
had its own Academy.
Located in the midst of a sprawling
green campus, surrounded with bottle palm
trees, rose garden, it greets visitors on entry
with freshness and serenity. The CBI Academy
is located at Ghaziabad (U.P.). Spread across
over 26 acres, in a beautiful setting that is both
inspiring and invigorating, it is ideally situated
– in the city and away from its din and
demerits. A Senior Officer of the rank of DIG of
Police looks after it. The Academy has its own
teaching faculty, but for specialized
teaching/training, experts are called from
among the Field Officers of the CBI and
Departments of the Governments and Public
Sector Undertakings. The Academy has most
modern, spacious buildings, housing its
Administrative Block, Academic Block,
Hostels and Residential Blocks.
The Academy, now caters to the training
needs of its officers and other ranks. It
conducts orientation courses regularly for its
officers. It has, over the years, developed as the
Centre of Excellence for training of not only
police officers from CBI, CPOs and States, but
for a large number of police officers from
abroad. It also caters to the needs of Chief
Vigilance Officers and Vigilance Officers of the
Public Sector Undertakings and the
Nationalized Banks of India and imparts
training to officers of all ranks from the various
States of India.

For the trainees, the morning starts at dawn with the
sounds of whistle of ustads amidst the chirping of birds,
and the gentle breeze across the Campus. However, this is
followed by the grilling hours on the grounds, doing
jogging and parade, followed by understanding the Laws
of the Land and the nitty-gritty of the investigation in the
classrooms. From lecture theatres to computer rooms to
simulation exercises, their nine months pass in learning
the tricks of the trades, so that they do not commit any
miscarriage of justice in the decades of their services to the
nation as Investigator of CBI. They eagerly wait for the
evening, so that they can avail the various games facilities
available in the Campus. Wednesday evening is special,
as they are treated with a movie in the auditorium,
which is fitted with soothing acoustics and comfortable
seats.

Equipped with a beautiful Seminar Hall,
four Conference Rooms and a huge Auditorium,
state-of-the-art Computer Centre and a modern,
newly-constructed Hi-Tech Cyber Crime
Laboratory, it received the ISO 9001:2008
Certification in the year 2010.
In many ways, the CBI Academy is a most
modern institution of Police training in investigation
and allied activities. It has a rich library and a first-rate
computer laboratory. It has prepared very useful and
latest training material, including training films and
computer-based training packages for courses
relevant to the functioning of CBI and other
investigating and vigilance outfits.

In order to build up a permanent cadre of Executive staff in the CBI, a programme for direct recruitment was prepared.
During 1963, 10 Dy. Superintendents of Police and 19 Sub-Inspectors were directly recruited. Since the Academy came in
1996, the ceremony of Passing Out Parade of Sub-Inspectors or the Investiture Ceremony has been a grand ceremony, which
takes place in Academy campus every year. The Sub-Inspector Cadets take the oath to serve the country and the organization
with honesty, dedication and integrity and become a part of the illustrious CBI family.

NATIONAL POLICE MUSEUM
This Museum was set up at the CBI Headquarters,
New Delhi, soon after the CBI came into being in
1963. In November 2003, it was shifted to the CBI
Academy Ghaziabad, where it is located in a safe
and secure building in a beautiful environ,
surrounded by lush green gardens and grassy lawns.

Not many people outside CBI premises,
however, know about this Museum of
national importance. It has some 1,500
very valuable rare exhibits, like the
original FIRs of some cases of historical
i m p o r t a n c e , r a r e p h o t o g r a p h s ,
sculptures, statues, paintings (seized),
counterfeit currency, forged documents,
arms, medals, national and international
police emblems, medals, dresses and so
forth (see Chapter 6). Because of fast
additions of exhibits and material, the
present building is proving smaller. A
separate and a bigger building is,
therefore, coming soon.
CBI Museum

Old weapons, including Stick guns, Japanese Rifle and
various types of Pistols at National Police Museum.
Microscope of the past century used in the document
examination work in the Handwriting Bureau of
Orissa State C.I.D., till substituted with sophisticated
stereoscopic microscope. it got three magnification of
30X, 40X, 50X and a sliding focus device to illuminate
the object, a mirror is fixed at bottom. Presently it’s at
the Museum.

Photocopies of forged recommendation letters addressed to “Dear Shri Birlaji”, forging admission in Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, which were produced in
