NZ Finn Veterans Championships 2004
Waiuku Yacht Club’s Veteran Finn regatta
ran over the weekend of 6-7 March with some
of the closest racing seen in recent times. By
the end of the fourth race the race honours
were shared by David Hoogenboom, John
Duff, Alan Dawson and Justin Hurst. Two
short races completed the series following a
one hour delay while the race officers waited
for a new north-west breeze to settle.
Racing was incredibly close over the short
races, with only 100 metres or less covering
the fleet of 14 Finns at the finish, and plenty
of action at the marks. Hoogenboom, fresh
from a 2nd place in the Finn Nationals, slipped
past Gerrit Bearda at the finish of race five
to bring him into a three-way tie for 1st with
THE NETHERLANDS
Oldtimer-race Harderwijk
The Dutch Finn Association has decided to
start up a competition for older boats only.
The intention is to give this group an
opportunity to race against each other and
to promote Finn sailing for starting sailors .
The entry is only allowed for boats other than
Devoti, Lemieux, Pata and Wilke
You are allowed to sail any kind of normal
allowed gear and the restrictions are only on
the hull.Finn Club Holland hopes this initiative
will help to promote Finn sailing and give
more fun to those who own the old-timers.
Normally they can only sail in the back of the
fleet but now theyhave equal opponents.
First test will be in Harderwijk on 28-29 of
August . This weekend is also the place for
the Randmeerrace which is a normal Finn
regatta so the oldies can meet the youngsters
on the lake but will have their own start and
competition. Finn Club Holland invites
everybody to join this weekend and enjoy
regatta sailing again!
Ewout Meijer is new chairman
Han Beverwijk, chairman of Finn Club
Holland, has resigned at the General Annual
Meeting on January 11th 2004. He could no
longer combine his responsibilities as a union
coach with an active role as a chairman. Han
Duff and Dawson. He then took out the series
with another clean but close win in the last
race, with Duff 2nd and Dawson 3rd on
countback. Christine Headey from Thames
won the title for the first aluminium mast,
while Rex Erikson was winner of the superveteran
division (over 60 yrs).
Ewout Meijer
(pictured) has
been elected
unanimously by
the members for
the position of
chairman of Finn
Club Holland.
Ewout Meijer has been known for several
years as a very active Finn-sailer. After his
election he received the annual award for the
Gaastra Pro Ranking in 2003. FCH welcomes
Ewout as the new chairman.
We expect that his involvement with the Finn
number of national and international sailing
events will be stimulating for the further
development of the Dutch Finn class
organisation. We wish Ewout all the success
