The guest speaker at our August meeting was retired Marine<br />
Lt. General Carol Mutter, whose husband Jim Mutter, LtCol<br />
(USMC, Ret) accompanied her.<br />
They told us about their interesting careers and how General<br />
Mutter rose to the highest grade ever granted a woman in the<br />
Marines at that time.<br />
Her husband was in the air traffic control field; she excelled<br />
in technical systems management to the degree that her commanders<br />
did not want her to retire.<br />
Chapter members got to hear her speaking again, this time on<br />
television. She spoke during the recent Republican Convention.<br />

Our Chapter supported the commissioning of the nation’s first<br />
National Security Coast Guard cutter, the USCGC Bertholf<br />
(WMSL 750), at Coast Guard Island, 4 August <strong>2008</strong>. Three<br />
Chapter members were invited.<br />
