<strong>Overlook</strong> Medical Center, located in Summit, NJ, is<br />
offering college students the opportunity to get<br />
hands-on experience in the medical field through the<br />
<strong>Overlook</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Internship</strong> <strong>Program</strong> (OSIP).<br />
How does it work?<br />
During the four-week program, interns will shadow<br />
medical professionals (mostly physicians but also<br />
therapists, hospital administrators, nurses and social<br />
workers) in one-day rotations to see what life is<br />
like in each particular field. Some of the medical<br />
disciplines covered include Primary Care, Cardiology,<br />
Neurosurgery, Oncology, Emergency Medicine,<br />
Pediatrics, General Surgery, and Physical Therapy.<br />
Rotations include experience in the operating room,<br />
emergency department, hospital floors, physician<br />
offices and meetings.<br />
Each day, Monday through Thursday, begins with a<br />
one-hour breakfast discussion led by a healthcare<br />
professional who will discuss his or her field. The<br />
remainder of the day, each intern will spend time<br />
shadowing his/her assigned mentor of the day.<br />
Fridays will consist of a half-day mentorship with<br />
a lunch session where interns will be able to share<br />
experiences and discuss topics of interest.<br />
