McDonald Dominates At Shamrock Showdown
After a dominating performance last weekend at the Shamrock
Showdown by Fame Fling N Bling <strong>and</strong> rider Sarah McDonald, the
Barrel Racing Report caught up with her for a few questions.
BRR: At this show, you won all 3 days, what qualities does Fame
Fling N Bling possess that allows her to be that consistent?
McDonald: Bling is consistent because she enjoys what she does
<strong>and</strong> runs hard every time. She has a lot of speed which allows her
to make a mistake <strong>and</strong> still win.
BRR: How do you prepare her for a big race?
McDonald: I exercise her at home but never on the barrels. At the
shows I try not to get on her too early because she warms up really
fast. I lope a couple of circles <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong> walk her.
BRR: What are your future plans for her <strong>and</strong> yourself?
McDonald: In the future I want to take care of her <strong>and</strong> keep her
healthy. She means a lot to me <strong>and</strong> we are getting embryo babies
out of her. Maybe we will try to run at some different places <strong>and</strong>
maybe rodeos when I get done with the nursing program. She is
only 6.
BRR: What is different about Fame Fling N Bling than the other
horses you have ridden before?
McDonald: Bling is different from the other horses I have ran
because she has such speed <strong>and</strong> has such a personality. It’s like
she focuses <strong>and</strong> know when it is time for her to perform. She is a
natural athlete. Her turning style is very unique, I have not had one
before who could get down so low!
