Vocabulary
Encourage the use of these words during the activity:
• oven
• wash
• sink
• hot/cold faucets
• cupboard
• knife
• sandwich
• utensils
• cleaning up
Connect
• Talk to the children about playing outside for hours and then suddenly
feeling very hungry. What is needed? Who can help?
• Sometimes, a quick snack will do the trick, but often a good, tasty
sandwich or some hot food is better. This is easier to prepare properly if
kitchen facilities are available. What type of kitchen facilities and utensils
do the children know about?
• Tell the children that some of the dolls have been outside playing in the
garden when they realize that it is way past lunchtime and that they are
really hungry.
Contemplate
• Encourage the children to elaborate on their vocabulary during the
process of creating the kitchen by asking open questions such as:
What is a sink used for? How do you use an oven? What types of kitchen
utensils are available?
Komfur/ovn
Can be used as inspiration
• Ask the children to describe what the sandwich will be like. What are
their favorite sandwiches at home? Talk about healthy and unhealthy
sandwiches.
• How will the sandwiches be served? Will they be eaten sitting down at a
table or will the children sit on the lawn outside?
Continue
• Have the children think about the best way for the dolls to sit and enjoy
their sandwiches. Prepare a good setting with the necessary utensils so
that everyone can have fun while enjoying lunch.
• After lunch – after any meal really – it is time to do the cleaning up.
Collect all the plates and utensils from lunch, tidy up, and get r eady for
cleaning up in the kitchen. Have the children make sure that everything
needed for this is available.
