MEASURE SCHOOL
RESIDENCIES
Between January and
March, Almeida Projects is
working with 15 year old
students from six Islington
schools on a residency
exploring the themes of
power and authority in
Measure for Measure.
“Almeida Projects provides an active, creative link between
our theatre and its audience, more specifically an audience
that may not have considered that the theatre might be for
them. This is not simply to ensure an audience for the
future; it is to establish the right of every individual to selfexpression,
to the belief that they possess creative
potential and that theatre is a populist, collaborative art
form as available to them as to everybody else.
Whether any young person working with us goes on to
become a professional writer, actor, director, designer,
administrator or technician is of secondary interest. Our
aim is to act as a catalyst to their energies, to their hunger
to participate – celebrating the creativity of young people in
the best way we know how: by offering them our
experience, our expertise and our unique theatre.”

develop creative links
between our Partner
Schools, the Measure for
Measure Residencies
project is our most
ambitious cross-school
collaboration yet. Nearly
200 students in ten groups
from six schools will share
their work on the Almeida Theatre stage in March, building a
sense of community and respect that transcends school
boundaries.
The Measure for Measure Residencies project offers Year 10
drama students opportunity to look at gender relations and the
responsibility of power: contrasting personal morality with the
standards set by authority. Students will work with the Almeida
Projects team of theatre professionals to devise short
performances based on their exploration of these challenging
themes.
At its heart the residency aims to engage students creatively with
choices we make: when no one’s telling you what to do, how do
you make decisions and do what’s right?

Almeida Projects is the Almeida Theatre’s community and
